Magic Jack
After seeing all the ads on television about how great, easy, and best of all, cheap Magic Jack was we decided to check it out because money is tight and we need to cut bills wherever we can. We do not have cell phones, only a home phone and our home phone bill was in a bundle with our internet coming to over $80.00 a month. That was ridiculous! So Magic Jack sounded like a great solution. We ordered it and it came days later. It was easy to install and we got our new number, set up our contact list, and started making calls. At first it seemed to work well. I could hear the other person clearly and they could hear me. I could finally call my friends long distance. I thought it was great and was very pleased. A few days later the bugs started to show themselves. Now being on the phone is a major pain in the butt and I have come to detest it. Having Magic Jack is like having the worst cell phone service in the world, but worse.

The problems I've experienced are as follows: Calls get dropped mid conversation. The person on the other end constantly hears what sounds like someone pushing buttons or dialing numbers. The other persons voice breaks up a lot and I have a hard time understanding what they are saying. Sometimes when I dial a number I get nothing but a dial tone. Sometimes when I pick up the phone to dial out I don't have a dial tone. It often sounds like someone is eavesdropping on the conversation. There is often times a delay of about 30 seconds and that gets really annoying to both parties on the phone. When I get another line while I'm on the phone, sometimes magic jack clicks over even when I've done nothing to get the other incoming call (all of a sudden the person calling in starts talking to me when I didn't even click over to answer!!!). When I do click over to answer the other line the person I was talking to either hears music or hears me talking to the other person I can hear both of them. That gets very confusing and I have to hang up with both people because they both think I'm talking to them when I'm not. I can hear both of them and they can both hear me but they can not hear each other. It's gotten to the point where when I call my friends they tell me that they want to buy me a cell phone because they can not stand to be on the phone with me if the only phone I have is through Magic Jack.

Their customer service is bogus and none of the issues I have are addressed in any of their FAQ's. But the old adage of "you get what you pay for" rings true time and again with this product. If you are poor or money is tight, Magic Jack is better then nothing, but if you can afford a different service, then I highly suggest it. Magic Jack is a terrible product that does not work as advertised. We will definitely not be renewing Magic Jack when our year of service is up with them!

does not work
I had got this for a gift and we brought it home. I hucked it up to my computer and it worked for three days. I have not been able to get it to work for 4 months now. I have been tring to contact the company to no avail. I am sick to death of being ripped off by stupid companys that you can' even find a phone number for.
I recived a number for the magic jack but, it will not connect to the internet. people who call can't reach me and i can not call out.
Who do you contact for this problem? I have found 100 web sites but, nothing to contact someone to figure out the problem!!!
I just want help not a bunch of crap that never helps anyone!!!

Stay away
When trying to refund they will give a song and dance on upcoming improvements to get you past your 30 day trial. For example the area codes have been promising an upgrade in 30 days for over 3 months. Call quality is bad, drops calls, and customer support is absolutely frustrating. All they say or type that is, is thank you for your patience there is nothing we can do right now.

Not available in 775 area code
Everything about the Magic Jack sounds so good but what they fail to tell you is that is is not available within all area codes. For instance, in Nevada you can only use Magic Jack if you are in Las Vegas (702 area code).
It is not available for the 775 area code and no one can tell you when this area code will be added.

Billing
Magic Jack cost me $320.00!!!
Thanks to their double billing my account went from $200.00 in the black to $120.00 in the red!
If I had done my due dilligence, which is apparently what you have to do with everything now a days, I would have at
least used a gift card.
In any case, how can I possibly recommend a company or product that has this kind of track record! No way! do not ever, under any circumstance, give them your atm card number, credit card number, or your bank account number. i can not understand how this company is still being allowed to rip people off. Isn't there someone out there that can do something to stop this company? and if not, why not?
If there is a class action suit against this company I want in!

has never worked correct
Bought their product in good faith and it has never worked correctly since day #1. Have contacted their customer support on several occasions for hr's. at a time with no positive results. I am handicped and live on a very limited income. They can not be called and you can only contact them on line. This company or what ever they are is a fraud. They take advantage of people that can't afford a lot and take their money and give nothing in return. They thrive on people with internet service and seem to be untouchable. It is said that there is power in number, so lets get results.

The board
This board is a fraud. It is a location for disgruntled, dishonest people to post scurrilous complaints and fraudulent information about products and services.

I have used Magic Jack for three years. Read this carefully: The thing works EXACTLY AS ADVERTISED and as documented in the materials supplied by the vendor. And it has saved me around $1200 in phone bills so far.

When I say "as advertised" I mean in every detail, including the caller id, the 911 integration, the voice mail, you name it. It all works perfectly. The call quality is perfect, there are no dropped calls, no problems whatever. It's a landline without the cost, just as represented to be.

People who file complaints about this product have not followed the instructions, are trying to operate the Magic Jack over wireless broadband that does not have enough capacity, have experienced problems with their broadband that affects the calls but is not caused by Magic Jack ... you name it, and all of it wrong. The thing works flawlessly. The customer service has quickly and efficiently dealt with every question and issue that has come up.

And something else: If I get any more harassing emails from people on this board, I will seek and get legal remedy against this board and its owners and operators. Don't try to intimidate me into saying other than what I believe to be true, or I will seek and get legal remedies against you. Trust me on this.

Simply awful
Received a week ago and am returning today. First problem was loading on my computer. It just wouldn't come up. I contacted customer service (which by the way can ONLY be contacted via internet chat - no phone number) and was told to load the upgrade. I did that and finally was able to register the product, but still wouldn't come up after that. It would slow everything down on my computer and as soon as I unplugged it was back to normal. I even tried deleting many old programs I never use anymore, but that didn't help. Finally loaded quickly on my husband's laptop. Problem now is that computer has to be on all the time (which I could live with and knew ahead of time) but also that when trying to make calls it either doesn't register I'm using the phone at all or it freezes. Eventually if I keep trying I can make a call, however, then it cuts out so much I give up. If I don't give up, the person on the other end does. Plus it will freeze up while talking sometimes and I have to hang up. I end up using my cell phone anyways, so what's the point?

If they can at least get the problem fixed with the actual calls freezing or cutting out and have an actual customer service person I can call and speak with, I would probably try it again, but right now it isn't worth it. Luckily I signed up for 30 day free trial and am still within my timeframe. Of note, if you decide to try it, don't throw any of the stuff that comes with it away. You have to return in original wrapping and then also go to the website and get an RMA # to print out and send with it. Luckily I didn't throw a thing away, but I've read other reviews of people who didn't and were out of luck.

Charges
ON the Magic Jack Web site they say and I quote " We only bill youwhen and only when, you decide to keep your magicjack ".
I ordered the jack on the 17th of January It was put in the mail the 18th. Today is the 20th. I have NOT received it yet.BUT my bank account was charged for the jack on the 19th.. HOW can I decide if I like it IF I don't have it. That early charge cost me $105.00 in bank fees. They will do nothing to pay for them.
They LIED on their site. OH< and you can't speak to them by phone all over the internet. They say you can speak to them but I was put on HOLD for 45 minutes no pickup.
I would be very careful about dealing with these people.
