Eric: Hello, how may I help you?

Donald: I was wanting to find out why the magic jack is adertised on tv at multiple, different stores for 19.95, but when i went to buy one, it was 39.98?

Eric: The $19.95 is the renewal of license every year.

Eric: You need to purchase first the magicjack for $39.95.

Eric: That includes the first year of service.

Eric: After the first year, you will renew the license each year for $19.95

Donald: i understand that, but it is adertised for purchase on tv for 19.95. the commercial says nothing about a price of 39.95. Isn't this EXTREMELY misleading to the public?

Eric: The advertisement has another price for it. But when you purchase magicjack from our site, it's $39.95

Eric: They must be the retailer.

Donald: I just went to walmart and radioshack, and they both are selling it for the 39.95 price, why is this price not mentioned in your commercial's?

Eric: Can I have the website of the commercial you mentioned?

Donald: It is a tv commercial

Donald: the only one you are running on tv

Eric: One moment please...

Eric: It's stated there that $19.95 / year.

Eric: That means $19.95 every year but you need to purchase first the magicjack for $39.95

Eric: Thank you for your patience. I will transfer you to a higher level of support. Please hold while I transfer you.

Cherry: Hello, Donald . My name is Cherry. To better assist you, let me put you on hold while I read your previous chat. Thank you.

Cherry: Please be informed that the $19.95 that is advertised is for the yearly charge of magicjack Eric and not the device.

Donald: my name is not eric, it is Donald. And the tv commercial is meisleading and what I and according to many on the web, false advertising.

Cherry: Sorry for that Donald.

Cherry: Which of it do you mean is falsely advertised?

Donald: Nothing on the commercial says anything about a 39.95 fee for the product and first year of service. it just says get the magic jack with the first years service for 19.95. Have you seen the tv commercials I am speaking of?

Cherry: Yes, that is not what it meant Donald, the $19.95 is for the yearly fee.

Donald: Do you see how that is very misleading?

Cherry: I don't think so Donald, because as what I have understand it shows that the $19.95 is for the service and not for the device.

Donald: It says nothing about the price of the device being additional. All it says is 29.95 for the magic jack

Donald: err 19.95

Cherry: I apologize for that but that is really not our price for the device Donald.

Donald: I now understand that, but your commercial is obviously being deceitful for a reason.

Donald: it is called bait and switch

Cherry: I understand how you feel about this Donald.

Donald: o is that it then?

Donald: so is tha it then?

Cherry: Yes Donald, you can return your magcijack for a refund just so long you're still under the 30 day trial.

Donald: when does the thrirty days start? when I activate the jack, or from date of ordering? How long does it take to rec'v if ordered from your website?

Cherry: From the order date.

Donald: So how long does shipping take?

Donald: So agin, it is not truly a 30 day trial period.

Cherry: Delivery usually takes 5-10 business days from when it was shipped for Standard Shipping, and 3-5 businesses days for Priority mail.

Donald: so it is actually a 20-25 day trial period

Donald: Again, misleading

Cherry: That is how it works.

Donald: Your company obviously practices devious business practices. How long before you start jacking up the yearly fee?

Donald: How long is the 19.95/year price guaranteed for?

Cherry: The Gold plan can only be refunded if you wish to return a device un der the 30 day trial.

Donald: If I told one of my customers what your last statement to me was, I would be borderline of being fired.

Cherry: That is the policy Donald.

Donald: What about the 19.95 / year fee. How long is that yearly fee guaranteed for?

Cherry: Once it gets activated we can't refund it back anymore, it's only refundable if you return a device as well. If not then it can't be refunded.

Donald: Let me try to make this a simple as possible for you. I buy the product. How do I know that the second year you won't up the annually service fee to 59.95? What kind of guarantee's do you have of future yearly service pricing of 19.95.

Cherry: You will be sent out an email as soon as you're license is about to expire.

Donald: Again, what is your guarantee that you wont jack the price up the second or third year for the service from 19.95 / year to hypothetically 59.95 / year. Please stop dancing around the direct wuestion i am sking you?

Cherry: No we won't Donald, our system does not lie.

Donald: Soi you can guarantee me the yearly service charge will never go above 19.95 / year?

Cherry: Yes

Donald: Will a copy of this chat be emailed to me?

Cherry: No, you can copy and paste it on your notes Donald.

Cherry: Please do not worry as I have recorded our chat making it very easy for the next tech to understand your concern if you may comeback again.

Donald: But then your company could say i doctored the chat. I would prefer you email me a copy of this chat from your company to me at [email protected]

Cherry: We can't email you a copy of the chat Donald, our email system is not available.

Donald: You are the first company i have ever had online chat with that did not VOLUNTARILY or Automatically send a copy of the chat session automatically. Obviously this is for a reason

Donald: If you can chat with me, email has to be available to you.

Cherry: No Donald, its just that our email system is not operating as of the moment.

Donald: Can i be transferred to an upper manager along with a transcript of this chat please?

Cherry: I can't transfer you to anyone else here Donald.

Donald: Why

Cherry: I am not allowed to do that.

Donald: I was transferred to you

Cherry: Yes, they are allowed but not me,

Donald: I am sorry Cherry, but I just don't believe that you have the authority to make the guarantee you just made to me, that is why i want someone from upper management

Cherry: I can't transfer you to anyone else here Donald.

Donald: Noi disrespect, but i don't believe you. What is your title and employee id or some way of identifying you other than by just "Cherry"

Cherry: I am Cherry Thompson.

Donald: How do I reach management? is there ena email address or a phone number I can call?

Cherry: No Donald, everything needs to be done here on this chat.

Donald: What kind of company has untouchable management?

Cherry: That is our policy.

Donald: OK. You leave me no other choice than to post this chat conversation on the internet for anyone that wants to look can see. Thank you for your mediocre assistance and i will continue to reach you management. Every company has a phone number.

Cherry: You are welcome.

Cherry: It was indeed a pleasure assisting you today.

Magicjack no customer service October 14, 2009
The Worst Customer Service / Magicjack what they don't tell you
MagicJack and Ymax Communications Corp have the worst customer service on any company that I have ever done business with.
Also, note that they only have online support. Their support people don’t have good communication skills – probably an off-shore outfit.
Their only option is online on their sales/support site. It will probably take you five to ten minutes to find the support line and get someone online.

I had an issue where the Magicjack (M.J.) would not work. They said they would send a new M.J. and not charge me. I did receive another M.J. It didn’t work either. Later I tested it with a different computer. It turned out that the computer I was originally using wasn’t fast enough to handle the M.J. – a P3 laptop with Win-XP, 512MB of RAM, and a 56MB wireless connection. For some reason Magicjack doesn’t list a minimum set of computer requirements. After I returned the additional M.J., I waited about three months to receive a refund. I started contacting them online. They would say that they would have someone in their accounting department email me as to when my credit would be processed. About five times and one month later and still no credit, I filed a dispute with my credit card company. They did get my refund for the additiona M.J. I did pay for the original M.J. and the one year of service.

Later in the year, my subscription expired. I never received a renewal-email prior to my expiration. We tried to renew online and there was as error. We contacted online support. They said they would email us in 24 hours with a response. We never received an email. Four attempts later – we asked for a manager or supervisor. We asked who the current president of the company was. They were not willing to discuss or comply with these requests. They said that they would be able to talk with us after we had filed our lawsuit. We said “what lawsuit”. Not sure where they came up with that information. Very poor customer support!

I did write a letter to the original founder of the Magicjack, about 4 weeks ago. I have not heard form them. My service is now turned off. Not a very friendly company to work with. I wonder how someone could trust this company with any of there personal information. They don’t want to be accountable to anyone. Everything they said about emailing or contacting us was never completed. Buyer beware!!!

I have also included some other issues that you should be aware of if you think the Magicjack phone system can be used to replace a more reliable land-line or reputable VOIP service provider, like Comcast, Vonage, or Lingo.

Cons: To have the phone available 24x7, you will need to have a computer setup that is on and running 24x7. The service is only available to ring in your house if your computer is turned on. I did have many issues with the Magicjack where it stopped working, (approx. two to five times per month). Usually the computer or some software (Magicjack software) would interfere with the M.J.’s operation. I think the computer would go into power saving mode and that would cause the M.J. to stop working; or, Windows or other software would have an update that would interfere with the M.J. service. I would say that the M.J. is not for a beginner computer user. There will be many issues that you will have to correct – with updating the computer to keeping the M.J. operating which will require advanced to intermediate level computer skills. The quality can be very bad at times with cutting in and out. You can also just have your call dropped without notice. Customer service is not responsive to issues. They say they will contact you with answers and they do not.
Pros: The price is very low. Having voice mails emailed to my email address was a nice feature.

Billing Scam/Poor Product
I bought a MagicJack at BestBuy for the SECOND TIME, just to give them another chance. Again, I couldn't get it to work, despite many sessions with their online help. This was with a new computer, new phone, new internet setup from the last time I tried - still it dropped calls or wouldn't go through at all. I returned the MagicJack to BestBuy and got my money back a few days later, but had made the mistake of ordering the five year extended plan (what can I say - i'm an optimist!). I went to the website to ask for my refund, and was promptly told that it was non-refundable because I DID NOT GET MY MAGICJACK FROM THE WEBSITE!

I couldn't believe it! No one had warned me that buying the same exact product from a big box retailer and using the exact same online process to sign up for service relegated me to second-class status as a customer! I don't remember a warning in the store or on the website or anywhere else letting me know that unless I bought my MagicJack in the store, I was stuck with the price of a service plan that cost more than the item itself and I now couldn't use because that item proved to be useless!

Needless to say, i'm livid, and I intend to scream as loudly and as frequently as I can to anyone who will listen that this is a scam and poor customer service to boot. The product obviously has some serious bugs and the buyer should definitely beware. Perhaps some people have managed to luck out and get performance, but it was indeed luck.

Rip off company
After all the advertising about Magic Jack on TV, PC Magazine and other magazines, I decided to order the product on March 1, 2008. The Website www.magicjack.com offers a 30 day free trial (your credit/debit card will not be charged until you've used the product for 30 days). My debit card was charged on April 8, 2008 in the amount of $53 and change; however, I never received the product.

When I tried to contact them on the Website, I found not contact information. They do have a 'chat room' but you must 'plug in' your magic jack in order to 'chat' with them. After about 9 attempts, I finally got someone in the chat room explained what happened and was informed that someone would be in touch with me in 24-48 hours. Today May 14, 2008 I have heard from no one and I still don't have the product. Nor am I able to find a telephone number or address to reach them.

I googled magic jack, magic jack law suits, magic jack corporate office and all I found was lots of other people with complaints of not being able to contact these folks.

This is really unfortunate since so many reputable companies and TV news channels promoted the product.

Scam
If you change your mind about using the Magic Jack, than it is garbage. You can not give or sell this unit to someone because the unit can not be reset, for them to use; you must give all your registered information and password so they can use it under your registered name, and they can not change all this information at all…..This is crazy...Every electronic unit is and must be resettable, why this one is not, because it is a scam and they don't want you to recycle the unit, they want to sell more instead.

Unauthorized billing
Well after getting magic jack they have a billing system that we go though. Everyone is told that there is one price that you receive. I paid my bill in full 106.85 39.95 For the magic jack 59.95 For the 5 year service and 6.95 For the tax. I got the credit card bill on 01/07/2009 I should have been paid in full. However I got another bill for 46.90 On February 02/06/2009 I did make any other system up grades or order more service. When I contacted magic jack I was told that I did not pay the full bill! Yes I did pay the full bill my credit card company receipt said so! I called magic jack all they do is give me the run around! I never got my refund! Then I looked at rip off. Com and a few people wrote that they had the same experience with magic jack ! Check it out tell the people don t buy magic jack there is some fraud going on there!!!

Nothing for FREE
I succumbed to an ad for Magic Jack that offered up to 2 Jacks Free for 30 days. I got the product right away and they charged my Visa debit RIGHT AWAY for $98.00. It took me FOREVER to find a way to contact the company. When I did it was in the form of a chat window. I asked why my FREE Jacks had been charged for before my FREE TRIAL month had even started...he said because I ordered with a debit card. I told him it was a debit VISA which can be run as a Credit Card...he didn't seem to understand my point. Then I ask ...if these retail for 39.95 each what is the extra charge for...He said for the service...I said that I thought thought they had a variety of monthly charges and he claimed that they never charged monthly services...EXCUSE me...monthly charges collected on a YEARLY basis!
I tried to call the TV sales number in order to get to a real person...I kept getting looped through electronic ads!!!
I'm sorry I don't trust these people!!! GET SOME REAL CUSTOMER SERVICE GOING PEOPLE!!! You may have a great product but the world won't trust you if you hide behind video loops and automated voice machines!!! PEOPLE NEED TO TALK TO REAL PEOPLE...and I want my money back!!!
Magic Jack is a poor product September 30, 2009
Extremely poor product and customer service
I purchased Majic Jack at Best Buy over three months ago. From the support of Cnet, PC mag, etc. I felt secure in this purchase. WRONG!!
From the first day the dependability was questionable at best. Today one call out of 14 has worked. Every time I contact the "Tech chat" they put me through the same actions each time. "Different USB port, unplug and plug back in, reformat the Magic Jack port. Seven times I have done all of these things and more. I update every day or two. Who knows if it is a new update. Then again today, same story. I asked for a telephone line to customer service. There is none. I asked to exchange the product. Definitely no. Over 30 days. It has never worked correctly. These are most of the problems I have encounterred:
No dial tone
Dial tone but no response to dialing
Dial number, rings once, silence
Dial, rings, person answers but they can not hear you
Phone does not ring
Sounds of dialing when no one is dialing
Robot voices
Echos
Disconnects
Storage Damaged
Stops computer programs when phone rings

All this and much much more with Magic Jack!
It's magic if it would work.
DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT!
IT DOES NOT WORK PROPERLY!
Pattycoast September 29, 2009
Product does not work and they will not refund 5 year plan.
Magic Jack customer service always gives you the run-around. It is quite the joke when you try to get an issue resolved. Very Micki-Mouse customer and technical support. I cannot make any decent phone calls because their mj gadget is of poor quality and definitley a waste of time and money. I paid $59.00 for their five-year plan and then it does not work half the time. I would certainly advise anyone who is considering buying one of those to stay clear of it. It seems to be a scam company because they do not stand behind their product and they refuse to refund money once they get their hands on it I found out from the customer service when I tried to get a refund for the 5-year plan. Now I am without phone service. It is truly a rip off. It is cheap technology that is totally worthless!
