Unauthoirzed Credit Card Carhges
On February 18, 2009 I ordered two Magic Jacks over the phone. I also ordered one year of service. On March 18, 2009, Magic Jack made an unauthorized charge to my credit card. My account was low and this charge sent my account into overdraft prior to my deposit of this same day. I tried to get resolution with Magic Jack. I spoke to "Roger" who spoke circular to me the entire time. Numerous times I requested the street address to Magic Jack and that was not provided. My advice to anyone considering any purchase from this company is "Buyer Be Ware!"

Product does not work
This past Friday, 3/13/09, I spoke via chat mail with a
tech from Magic Jack, with questions prior to my purchase of the Magic Jack, mainly to know if it was compatible with my computer. I was assured that it was, then I ordered it,
on Saturday 3/14/09 (next day) they took the money out
of my account. Yesterday 3/15/09 I received it and today
Tuesday 3/16/09 I tried it and it doesn't work. They
would not give me a phone number to speak with a live
person and said for me to send it back. I said that they
should pay for the shipping because I already addressed
the issue if it would be compatible with my computer or
not. They said sorry, I have to pay for the shipping...
Now my problem is, what if I do send it back and I don't
get refunded???
I'm very upset, as I would have never purchased it in the
first place if it were not compatible with my computer!
And lastly, directory assistance does not have them listed!

Unauthorized billing
I ordered the Magic Jack VoIP today. I was to understand I was to receive a 30 day trial. I made my purchase with my Bank of America Credit Card as instructed by the site. I was told that after 30 days if satisfied I would be charged $46.90. I agreed to these terms. Only to find out 3 hours later my credit card had been charged the full amount; not pending, a full charge.

I attempted to call several time only to find an automated system to nowhere. As for the online chat support, I felt as if I was talking to a child. I explained the problem and was told they could not remove the charge as of yet. The product must now be sent and returned if still dissatisfied.

In my experience with Magic Jack, although not yet receiving the produce, I would never do business again.

Magic Jack works Great!!
I bought this and immediately canceled my Digital Phone, and Digital Cable also went to the "lite version" of my Internet service..
just a 1MB difference in speed for 25.00 less...

Long story short, that move with the Magic Jack is saving me over $80.00 a month.

I like a home phone because it's just a bigger more comfortable phone to have long conversations with instead of my pay by the minute cell phone...Magic Jack rules.!!!

I have the calls forwarded to my cell phone as a default, to pick up when I am not home or if the computer is not on.

I am now basically paying about $100.00 a year for phone service (Magic Jack and cell phone)...

Next stop is to check out a digital converter box and see what is free on the airwaves...

Can't dial a single call
I have not been able to make even a single call in last 8 months from this piece of junk. It worked OK for initial few months after I bought it, but I am really frustrated with this product.
Whenever I dial any number, only thing I hear is 'silence' while the number I call rings but when the person picks up the call, nothing happens. This is going on for last 8-10 months.

roseroberta: I received the product today in the mail. I attempted to set it up, it is supposed to be plug and play. It never worked. There is no contact number, no address, etc. only a chatroom. I attempted several chatroom conversations with two representatives from 6 pm to 9:50 pm PST. They did nothing, ignored my requests for help and said, there's nothing we can do. I kept reiterating that basically too bad. I asked for a manager, I asked for an address, I asked for a corporate number, they refused and disconnected the chat conversation. I researched the company information, they don't exist at the address they indicated, it belongs to a woman. When you call their so called 800 that I found after resarching the web, it rings to a non-existing number that goes to a circuit busy. When you check their domain registration, they do not list a name or contact, they registered as private. When you research online, they were denied in the state of Alaska, showing networth of $1k. I believe they are a scam preying on people and taking their money not providing any kind of service that they claim. I saved a copy of the chatroom conversations with the 'so called technical reps' who for almost four hours, did nothing and basically said, 'Oh well.' roseroberta: Something to be aware of if you are thinking about buying a MagicJack. I haven't had any problems using it on an Intel-Based Mac. However, I just ordered my fifth one (the other 4 were for friends out of the country) and the company mixed up my shipping address. I have heard rumours that their customer service is bad. Actually, it is horrible. You cannot speak with anyone. Everything is done by live chat. They are not trained to handle anything outside of the manual they read from. They cannot form proper English sentences. They do not go out of their way to make things right for the end user. A few days ago I discovered my order was sent to the wrong address and it has been a nightmare trying to get it fixed. From what I understand, they went from selling a few hundred per day to 8000 per day. Unfortunately, they don't seem equipped to handle the administrative side of the business. There are a lot of complaints with this company, which is owned by http://www.ymaxcorp.com/. You can google "ymax and complaints". Most of the problems are customer service. I suspect they will face a class-action lawsuit in the future to straighten them out. My advice if you order... Make sure everything is correct with all ordering details. If you have a problem be prepared for a long battle getting it resolve. On the other hand, the four previous orders arrived perfectly. From a hardware/software point of view, you have an occasional echo, service interruptions, no Mac technical support (still in beta), etc... But, most of the time, it simply works well. My friends in Europe saved thousands of dollars already so they are happy. The product works, customer service does not. Good Luck! It says, “Every answer you will get from a Live Person, is available right here at your fingertips, without delay” and there is a list of FAQs. I clicked on Billing/Order Live Chat and Cancel/Live Chat, and the same thing happened. I filed complaints this morning with the New York State Attorney General, the AG of Florida, with my credit card company, and with my reps in Washington, D.C. You should do the same. Just Google attorney general for your state, get the address and write a letter. You don't have to fill out the form. Do the same to get the names and addresses of your reps in Washington. i was scamed
i was charged for 2 magic jacks i only wanted one. they charged mr for 2 of them .46.90 and 83.80. i would like credit to my account right away it will take 3 days for them to receive my order back. i already returned it today by mail.march the 6th. i need for them to give me my money back fast... please help me i was very upset. o redered by phone it was a machine talking but theres never nonone to talk to it made it vert hard on me

magic jack phone is horrible when a call comes in no one can hear you you cannot hear them when you try to make a call it doesnt ring in your ear at all it shoots you back to the dial tone soooo you cant receive calls you cant make calls sounds like great phone service to me oh and did i mention SOME PEOPLE CANT CALL ME AT ALL they get a phone disconnected message. And there is no customer service number to talk to anyone you have to "chat online" with them and after "chatting" with 3 agents for over 1 1/2 hours the phone is still not working properly I guess the old saying really is true YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR just beware of the magic crap i mean magic jack phone!!!

I bought the Magic Jack a year ago. Initially, the USB port would not support the MJ. Moving the magic jack to the top USB port fixed things quite well. Over the last year, I have had the intermittent reset issues, and occasional dropouts that have not bothered me. These things have happened rarely, although more often then with a legacy phone company. Just reset and there you go.

HOWEVER, I had to call my house from down the street the other day on a pay phone. My cell went out. It cost me $.65 to do that. I got on the magicjack cue this morning and found out that even though I was told that my exchange was local when signing up, IT IS NOT LOCAL. Folks who call me from the local area, on a land line get charged for a long distance call.

Now, I live THREE blocks from the headquarters of the Discovery Channel, in DOWNTOWN SILVER SPRING, 8 miles from ground zero and the White House.

PC Magazine should most DEFINITELY qualify it's endorsement of Magic Jack. I read about these exchange issues others noted with interest, because I had been assured that folks who called me were not getting those charges. THAT IS NOT THE CASE.

NOW, I am very dissatisfied. I would tell ALL of you to go down the street, and call your house from a pay phone, and see what happens. I was SHOCKED. Magic Jack promised to email me the minute that I was able to get a local phone number. Oh really, I have had the service for a year already. Interesting company. I would be interested to know if ANY metropolitan area is covered by magic jack. I would bet that they are criss crossing things so that they can get a share of those long distance charges on each call.
