Magic Jack Qualty & Live Agents
I bought the Magic Jack in Spt 08. I am very pleased with it, I don't know why these people are having issues like this. There is only 2 things that get me, 1 Some times the quality breaks up and I have to reboot the PC or the call will cut off after about a hour. And 2, Some of the live agents don't know anything, They just give you a bunch of bull. Would be nice If we could call some one. But I like it, Saves me lots of money, When you go to complete the purchase it says Debit card users will get charged asap. I used my debit card. I have no problems other then thoes 2. Witch A little hassle like this is ok with me. It is saving me LOTS of money so far.

Scam and cheating
The Magic Jack website is very misleading. I activated my Magic Jack today. I wanted to upgrade to the 5 yr plan and purchased what I thought was the upgrade. Instead, I received a confirmation email stating that I'd purchased a new magic jack and the address listed in the order lacked a house number.
The confirmation email stated that if I wanted to change the order, I need only reply to the email, but upon sending a reply I received another message telling me that the reply address is no longer active. This new message had a 'Contact Support' link. Upon clicking the link, you receive a another message stating 'The resource you are requesting was not found. Please contact our site', and you're immediately transferred to: http://www.magicjack.com/9/index.asp where the video of the daughter of the inventor of Magic Jack echoes the praises of Magic Jack, such a pathetic move by Magic Jack. I really feel sorry for that little girl. It'll be quite an eye opener for her to find out that her dad is a fraud, and used her to promote community trust. And, of course, on that page you have many links of information that will get you no where.
I telephoned my bank to cancel the transaction, but was advised that since the transaction was pending, there was nothing they could do until the money posted. My bank gave me a telephone number for Magic Jack billing: 561-594-2140. When I telephoned Magic Jack billing, I received a recording giving me a choice to either go to back to the website or to telephone another billing number where a live operator would answer 24/7. That number is: 281-404-1551 . Needless to say, when I telephoned, I was placed on hold for over 15 minutes listening to their holiday music. Then the music went off and it appeared that my call was picked up, but no one would say a word, the silence went on for an additional 5 minutes, and then I was hung up on. I never spoke to anyone. I made an attempt three times to reach a live billing representative, only to net the same results.
I trust that my bank will assist me in the return of my money, so I'll chalk it up as a 'lesson learned'. However, I do want to blast Los Angeles Times, CNBC, The Boston Globe, The New York Times, BBC, LAPTOP, and PC Magazine for continuing to allow them to use their company name and logos as endorsements on the Magic Jack site. I really believe that as consumers we should also hold these companies accountable for the scam we have been subjected to. We trust these entities to provide us accurate and trustworthy information, and Magic Jack knows that, that's why these companies are listed on the Magic Jack site.
As SCAMMED consumers, I hope you will take the time to write the companies listed above and let them know how they have assisted in scamming and hurting the community. And, insist that they remove their company logo from the Magic Jack website.

RIP OFF
BUYER BEWARE! These people are a joke. Saw an infomercial and ordered it. Thought we had 30 days to try it out, but they charged us $126.75 within hours of ordering. Returned product back to them for refund and still have not received refund, even after them telling us we would see refund within 48 hrs. Unbelievable! These people are rip off artists...I am going to report them to the United States Postal Services, Better Business Bureau and any other agency that will listen.
GET YOUR MONEY BACK QUICKLY!

horrible product stopped working
I bought two Magic Jacks about six months ago. They worked fairly well (mediocre sound quality, many dropped calls, other glitches) but since I only used MJ for my long distance calls and for supplementing my hard line, it was acceptable for a cheap service. I gave one of the MJs to my dad, it stopped working two days ago, so I drove over there and spent FOUR HOURS working on the computer and MJ's chat line. Still didn't work. Now I tried my own MJ today at my home and it doesn't work either. Seems that there was some kind of "downloaded update" that didn't work or something. Now I have no service on either of my MJs.
Even worse, when I plug my MJ in to my computer, it freezes up my mouse and screen most of the time, and the MJ popup window won't properly engage, making it impossible to make calls. Ther have been no changes whatsoever to either computer or their software so it must be the MJ. I don't keep them plugged in all the time, I just plug them in when I want to make a long distance call, and I haven't given the phone numbers out, there are zero incoming calls, so I figured the MJs would last a while and not overheat.
WRONG!!!
Don't waste your time with these, they might work for a while but you will never get a full year of service out of them. And customer "service" is a joke: I spent several hours on their chat line with six different reps and they didn't help at all. But they did ask for my email address and my password!! I had to explain to them that I don't give my password to anyone. Then they asked for it again.
Yeah, right...

no customer service
I ordered the jack last week they are holding my money hostage. 30 day trial is a joke it starts from the day you order it. I ordered mine last Friday 1/2/09 I still have not heard anything so today I managed to finally get through to an online chat operator. Who told me it would be another week before they shipped it and 5 to 7 business day after that before I got it. So after I got mad and told them I wanted my money back the woman left the chat without telling me whether or not I was going to get it. Yes, notice I haven’t received it, free 30 day trial and they took my money. Why wont the government step in to protect us?

works occasionally never has worked right.
I have had this magicjack for over 3 months and it has yet to work more than once or twice properly and when I get calls sometimes the caller cannot here me as well as if I call someone, same thing, either can't hear me or there is lots of background noise.
Mostly it just does not work right. The live chat is automated, nothing live about that. can't contact anyone without a whole day to do it. I want my money back but how do you go about that?, when you can't even get any tech help.

Scam/false advertising
Company states 30 day money back guarantee and free return postage and that credit card would not be charged. Well, they charged my credit card right away, did not provide free shipping back to them and have no customer service number. Scary company.

Rip off
I tried so many times to use the Magic Jack. Out of all the times I tried, I only connected once and my contacts could not hear me, and the phone kept going off all the time . I tried to contact them, returned their rubbish and have not been credited for my purchase. I am still trying. It's a full fledged rip off.

Rip off
I just went to the website and read that they had a 30 day free trial that would expire today. No billing on your credit card (until after the FREE trial). That was the lie right there. I got a notice back that my credit card did not go through. I know I didn't have the full amount in at this time, but it would not matter, unless they were a scam and they are. They did not even process my order, but were greedy enough to debit my VISA checking account $1.00. Who do they think they are? We need a class action suit on this company. Also the tv ad should be taken off and they should do a follow up of advocating a scam with a lousy guy that uses his daughter and her puppies that our money has bought. What a loser.!

Unauthorized charges
I went to this site on the advise of someone. They offered a free 30 day tril for up to two units. As you go through the process, you can add extra service including extended service, rush shipment, etc. When you get to the order page, it tells you how much your card will be debited...for a free 30 day offer. I go back to the home page and try again with the same result. I never confirmed or authorized these services. I find out that the extra services are billed immediately and as I did not have funds available that day or next, I went back to the home page and ordered my two free units to try out free for 30 days. I complete my order and the next morning, my account has been charged...FOUR times. Twice for 87.80 each, then again for 43.90 and for 3.00. As it tells me to reply to the email for any questions or updates, I do. And get a return email stating that this email is no longer in service. I go back to the site and go on a live help where I am eventually put to a supervisor. I tell him to cancel any and all orders from his company and he says no problem sir, it is done. Unfortunately these four charges put my account overdrawn and cost me four overdraft charges at 34.00 each. These charges caused all the other pending charges I had to be overdrawn eventually costing me 11 different overdraft charges at 34.00 each!! All that week I had been in contact with my bank and they were kind enough to refund me 6 of the overdraft fees if I made my account current, which I had to borrow money to accomplish. During this time, I received a package from magic jack (which was returned to them unopened) and a week later, I was AGAIN charged 43.90 and 3.00!! This is within a week and a half and talking to numerous 'supervisors' (they would never connect me to the same operator twice), clearly well within my 30 day FREE trial. They said they would return the 46.90 as soon as the package was returned but would do NOTHING about the fees they cost me for unauthorized use of my account. Now I am out 46.90 (pending reciept of my return) and will still be out $170.00. They basically told me it was my fault, they did nothing wrong and I can pursue whatever action I see fit, but they refuse to compensate me for any fees.
