Magic Jack tech support is difficult to reach and unhelpful, even stupid, when contacted on chat. The damn thing makes our Windows 7 unstable & crashes at bootup. It boots OK when the MJ is unplugged. The FAQs stop at Windows XP and Vista.

The MJ works, but don't count on any effective supoprt.

Failed to perform
Never, never, never buy majicjack. You will never talk to a human in person. The product does not work. Period. I have to dial a number so many times I just give up. When you look at your computer you will see that when you dial a number 99% of the time it leaves one out so the call never connects. I was a fool and bought the 5 year plan. What a waste of money and they will not give me a refund. Don't be a fool and order this. You will be sorely disappointed. It does not work.

No tec support to resolve a problem with m/j
I have had magic jack for over two years without any problems. I don't know what they changed but it will not stay on and when I boot it back up you can make a call and it will cut you off in 2 to 3 minutes.

I have followed all of their chat discussions on how to fix it and that DOES NOT WORK and there is NO ONE you can call to get it fixed. I have had this problem for over a month and there is no tec support to call if you have a problem. Now I am without a phone.

Beware
I have had a Magic Jack for 2 years to use with my business, just to have a voicemail/answering system. The voicemail/email notification works well, the phone has never worked well with alot of static and apparently sporadic screeching going through to the person on the other end. I did an immense amount of troubleshooting on this to rectify it and could never get it to work properly. The start up software takes forever to load, so if you need to start your computer quickly..forget it...it ain't happening. I finally disconnected it and it still took messages.

What every potential customer needs to BEWARE of is If you have paid for this with a debit card they will debit your checking account with NO Notification. I have never set up automatic deduction for just that reason because that is a gimmick businesses use these days to take payment. My account was due to renew in January and I was trying to decide whether or not to renew, they never notified me at all, no email, nothing and the service was still there February 4th. I checked my bank account and Lo-and Behold They Debited my account without ANY Authoriztion. BEWARE!!! I disputed the amount with the bank and they told me to call Magic Jack, they gave me the number, which I did. I must say the billing issue was the fastest customer service I have ever received and I have spent hundreds of hours on the phone troubleshooting the *** thing. But they knew they were wrong and simply said "The amount will be credited to your account within 3-5 days". SO BEWARE!!! They are dishonest thieves.

Charged me four times
I was one of the poor people that have tried Magic Jack they charged my credit cI have tried for many days to reach them by many means...they have ignored my plees..four time and would NOT respond to my e-mail, phone calls or complaints...I finally mailed the unit back to them by registered mail...what a joke... I will find another way to make calls cost effective. I would like to know if anyone elese has had trouble with this company...what a joke...let the world know...thanks maybe this will help someone else in the future..

No customer service
I purchased a majic jack and yes it works. But i cant get a hold of ANY customer service to help with a few frustrating bugs. Such as i don't want it to load everytime i sign on. Cant stop it. I cant close once its loaded without shutting down my pc, it slows my pc down when open. It does work but it is very slow, it rotary dials not tone so dialing takes some time too. Just not happy with it and when my time exspires i wont renew. If you buy don't add any extra years of service till you've try'ed it for a month or so and are happy with it. Thanks

Heather: Ideally, the power saving options of your system should be disabled when the device is plugged in. We have purposely designed our updated software that way because when a system goes into power save, most likely its USB ports and internet capabilities are limited which is a requirement for our device to function correctly.
Heather: There have been instances wherein customers missed important calls thinking the device is enabled while on power save. We want to prevent that from happening to you, which is why we disabled the power saving options of the system while the device is plugged in. If the device is unplugged, your power options will kick back in. Of course any calls that comes while the device is unplugged will go to your voicemail or to the number you have set up to forward it to.

Rip off
Bought magicjack several months ago. Worked Ok for a few months, then started having problems daily. Dropped calls or too much static to carry on a conversation. Bought a new phone to make sure it was not the prob. Calls come in and party on the line cannot hear you when you answer.

Just stops working regularly. Spend more time trying to get it to work than I do using it. Customer service is non existant. Don't even bother trying to contact them.

And I paid for 5 more years. Stick with your land line or cell. BEWARE!!! All they want is your money. In the last two weeks I've got a message "audio not found" and cannot place or receive calls. The last time I had to disconnect and restart magicjack several times before it started working again.

Read the complaints on this site. I would bet that they are all true. If you are in the trial period I would suggest you get out before the real problems start. Whatever you do, don't sign up for additional years. You will be pulling your hair out before the first year is up.

I hope this saves somebody some money and aggrevation.

Charges my credit card and stopped my service
Have renewed service twice and Majic jack billed one dollar to credit card both times, have tried customer service, unable to correct. They shut off service but I am unable to renew. They have credit card info, signed up for auto renewal but unable to get renewed. Why would they charge one dollar to my credit card? I since have found they are getting cute with renewals, they block one (1)year renewals and force you to renew for five(5) years. You can only get a five (5) renewal, at this time 02-7-2011, hopiing the attorney General will force them to give 1 yr renewal

BBB pls regulate magic jack web design scheme and shame to the owner.once they see your CREDITCARD, youre done!the software just finishes the registration for you and customer service does not do anything about it. i tried to register my phone and mistakcenly picked "i do not want a phone#" but i couldn't change my option(no back button)so i shut down my pc before hitting the submit button etc.but when i turned my pc on, there the software just pushed thru with the registration anyways.i chat/complained right away about this online and they did not want to correct to even give me a choice of ph# for free.i have to pay the regular fee of changing ph# if i wanted to they said. but as far as what their system says, i registered completely and nothing is wrong with their system. to the owner pls correct this situation. it is unprofessional and even your call ctr reps seem helpless and are not even probably empowered if a courtesy override is due or not nor probably even can do anything regarding charges to services.all companies i dealt with are able to deal with these instances fairly but not your company.it is not the money but the the thought of being RIPPED OFF and not corrected that is not right.
