Looking for something else, I happened upon this website, and noticed that there were postings about Magic Jack. I purchased a MagicJack from their website several months ago, then a second last month. I previously had tried Skype, but was put off by the extra charges they asked for things that one normally expects to be a part of telephone service.

With my original Magic Jack unit I had to go to their chat customer service to ascertain the correct computer audio settings, taking a total of probably 10 minutes. Since that time there have been occasions (VERY FEW) when the sound quality was not acceptable, but redialing corrected the problem. As a matter of fact, I many times have asked the persons to whom I was talking about the quality - and they thought I was using a landline! Just a note: the little Magic Jack box - and even the packaging - were of surprisingly good quality; I was quite impressed.

Now --- if you would read, and assimilate, the minimal information provided, you would not have the 'problems' described - and they DO tell you that you pick your phone number, from most any city in the US, which remains yours, but can be changed once for free (though a small charge for subsequent times, if desired). One of the reasons for my purchase is that the unit can be used in ANY country as a LOCAL US phone number - for both incoming and outgoing calls.

I am unable to comment on the credit card complaints, as I had no problems whatsoever. Suffice to say, I have recommended Magic Jack to a number of friends and acquaintances.

Well i have a terrible experience to relate to you all today, ,
So i get on the phone to order the 30 day free trial, , its an automated line, , so i followed the instructions as they came, , name address phone number CREDIT CARD NUMBER and expiration date, , THEN it says if you are using a debit card you will be CHARGED RIGHT AWAY not at the end of the 30 days as the tv said, , ok fine, , never mind i will call back when the money is in the bank, , , only guess what??? THERE IS NO WAY TO TELL THEM THAT and they already have your info so they of course charge my account right away and get me hit with bounce fees, , there is no way to stop the transaction at that point, , so i spent a hellish weekend trying to stop the transaction before it hit my bank, , , no luck, , it didnt register at THEIR OFFICE (WHICH BY THE WAY IS ONLY LIVE ON LINE!!) it didnt register until monday morning but by then i was charged and bounced already, , and they were still telling me it wasnt in their data base, , so my warning is, , , if you have a debit card NOT A CREDIT CARD no matter what they say dont do it until you are ready to pay cause that lovely comment about YOU CANNOT PAY FOR IT TODAY is a LIE!!! and once you fell for it YOUR SCREWED!!! oh and by the way that hellish weekend consisted of staying awake going to their live chat every 2 hours because it wont even show you HAVE an order until you are charged, , , so have fun!!

As stated by everyone else, this company is a total rip-off. I ordered one Magic Jack and they sent me two and billed my credit card before the end of the 30 day trial (two days after I bought it). The product was junk, it didn't work. There is neither customer service nor a return address. I stopped payment on my credit card, but the bill popped back up.

I don't see how they can legally get by with scamming every customer they have. It seems like something should be done to either refund everyone's purchase or at least stop these people from scamming more. They are all crooks.
