Scam and cheating
I ordered a Magic Jack in August. It worked reasonably well for the first month and a half. A week or so after they got my payment, the program went crazy, with constant "Autorun.exe" errors. The program also kept cycling on and off, so if it ever did log on, it shut itself down before you could make a call, then restarted itself, ad-infinitum.

I spent two hours online with a high level tech support, deleting and reloading the program, installing "fixes", making deep tweaks and modifications to my computer (such as changing permissions on the USB ports, deleting files and folders, turning off the fire wall, etc.).

Next, they asked if I was using the extension they provided to reach the USB port, and told me to plug Magic Jack directly into the USB. Unfortunately, the thing's so fat that it wouldn't fit in my port, unless I removed every other USB jack.

Then they tried to get me to delete all unnecessary games and files from my computer. When none of that worked, they told me to run a speed test (which showed my download speed to be 5023, and upload to be 286. Then they tried to blame it on my service provider, and claim I should request them to improve my upload speeds. They said if that doesn't work, try it on a friend's computer. I don't have any problems with any other applications running on my computer, and used Vonage for years without any such incident.

Sorry, but if two hours of deep tech support can't resolve the problem, MagicJack is not ready from prime-time, as far as I'm concerned. Back to Vonage for me.

Fraud and scam
Magic jack is a scam i would not recommend this product i would not put anyone through this *** *** junk and having that little girl lie for them on site shame on you magic ***. They need a law suit on them and especially no phone number for customer support they must not like it either for them to have magic jack and not have phone for c/s whats up with that and there chat clients are not good also they must of just started to school on customer service and still in kindergarten, magic jack you need to be put out of business and a big law suit.

Customer Service
Magic Jack advertises that you can buy their product from a retail store, online, or by phone. What thgey fail to tell you is that if you buy it from a retailer they don't back the product.
The customer service is absolutely horrible and their policies are unheard of.
Stay away from this product.

Scam
When I installed Magicjack, my area code was not available. The Indianapolis area code was though. So my friends and neighbors in Southern Indiana now have to make a long distance phone call to speak with me. No problem, the truth is they never call me anyways. Oh, yes, according to their on-line help, their engineers are working on this problem and will be corrected in their future upgrades. I was pretty disappointed because it really did seem to work. My wife called be from her cell phone and the clarity was fairly good. I was speaking to her and could see her through the window. There is a one second delay which is not too bothersome- except when you can see the person you are talking to and their lips start moving before you can hear them on the phone.

Fraud and scam
I have had the magicjack since March of 2008. I loved it. The calls were clear and reliable. I enjoyed my service for almost six months when suddenly there was no dial tone on my phone. I checked the software and I was able to dial and make calls using the microphone and speakers on my PC, but not using a phone extension. I mean, isn't that the point of the MagicJACK? That it is supposed to be a jack so you can dial from a phone.

Thinking that I could report the problem, I got online with their live chat. Chad (the live chat rep), took me through almost an hour and a half of "try this", and "Now try this". I did everything he asked and it still did not fix the problem. At about one hour and twenty minutes, I asked to speak to a supervisor. I was then transferred (via chat) to Mylene (who claimed to be a supervisor). She began to diagnose all over again. I stopped her and said that I had been through all of this and that I just wanted my 20.00 product replaced. I told her that there clearly was a problem and that they should stand behind their product and replace it. She flat out told me that she WILL not replace until they can diagnose the problem. She then began to give me more "Try this". I told her that I had no intention of allowing her to waste more of my time. I told her that I would file a complaint about their poor customer care and give she and Chad a low review. She told me to go right ahead. This is exactly the kind of crap that has been allowed during the "Bush" administration. Legalized rip offs. DO NOT FALL FOR MAGICJACK! You will be disappointed sooner or later.

Scam
I had my Magic Jack working for a while, then started having problems of no audio, doesn't work through my phone from time to time, so everyday is a hit or miss. I chat with the Customer Care and that's the ONLY way to contact them, they told me to go through whole bunch of things, and it didn't work. And it was my bad, i actually went through it again and again for like 6 times with 6 different chat sessions. Eventually i asked to get a replacement, so i was transfered on chat to somebody, then they first said they can't find my account, need my credit card number, then they said they found it, and I will be contacted in 24 hours, but then nobody contacted me, so I chatted again... now, to make the story short, Cassey, Bert, Desmond and Grace, total 4 so called "supervisors", had promised i will be contacted and nothing happened, and they ALL said they couldn't find my account and then found it, and they all said it will be resolved in 24 hours... and they ALL said nothing was followed up because they can't find my account info (even though I have a copy of the confirmation email). Eventually i told Grace, if they can't get my account, that means i don't have to pay and renew it (which is coming up soon), because they don't know i have an account, and it's working occasionally. I am not planning to renew, this company really ***, and let's see if they will cut it off when my account is due, then hopefully they will realize... they do have my account!

Terrible experience
One of the major issue about this Magic Jack is the person you call will hear sharp beeps from time to time like you accidentally press a button on the phone. The Customer Care people never address that problem, told me to went through all kinds of updates and nothing works. Eventually they told me to change my phone set! Customer cares are not helpful at all. and each chat session would take about 1 hour, and that's the only way to contact them. I would never recommend people to buy this, and I agree on other reviews, this company is a scam!

Unauthorized charges
I looked into getting the magic jack. I saw the so called "free" for 30 days ad and considered it. By the time it was over it ran up to a whooping $146.80, I wanted to cancel the order, so I never hit confirm. Today I get an email stating the equipment is on the way and my account is being billed, immediately, no 30 days free. I email them back to tell them I wanted to cancel the order. I get an out of office reply from Magic Jack stating they are "upgrading" the site. I have been unable to find a working #, except for 281-404-1551, which is long distance and keeps you on hold until you give up. I called my bank to cancel, they can see the transaction pending and cannot stop it until it actually goes through. The whole thing seems like a scam to me. I would not recommend it to anyone. It seems like a big rip off for consumers.

Scam and cheating
Hello everyone on the magic jack bandwagon, and here I thought, I was the only one and so I am not. I got mine on ebay from seller who since was deactivated and paid for it with paypal. I've had the thing for 2-3 months by now and cant really complain too much about its performance. However, today, 9/29/08, the stuff hit the fan. I logged onto my computer at 10 am, by 11am magic jack was history! I then spent the entire day on line with their rude and stupid "customer reps" on the chatline and got nowhere, lipservice, run around, NO SERVICE! The blue light does not stay on after plugging it into the usb plug, I tried plugging it in on each of them, still no go. I started having problems 2 weeks ago when I got the "USB Hub" popup that never stopped. I thought it was my 3 year old laptop having a problem but my lappy is not the problem, Magic Jack is! One person posted on here having had the same problem with the "USB HUB" popups and having bought a hub router said didnt work either. I am not going to buy one either but have reported to ebay what happened to me and they said that paypal would refund my money. One thing magic jack cannot do is take more of my money, they have no access to my credit or debit card and cannot take money from my paypal unless I authorize it. Then I found this website on a search and within minutes was speechless to read about so many people getting the same or worse runaround with magic jack, but am glad on the other hand that I am not the only one. Well, I logged onto the MJ chatline one more time and popped this website on the chatscreen whereupon the person immediately "terminated" the chat. The reason they are not "available" by phone or email is that they KNOW this product is not fit for usage and they don't want to hear this OR pay refunds OR give replacements. Instead, they have cheap labor drones on the frontlines taking the hits. Fine mess this has gotten us into, but, nothing goes unpunished. Cheer up folks, with the useless piece of garbage they have put out into the marketplace, their "business" won't last too long. Don't get mad, get EVEN! Post everywhere how bad this thing is, pretty soon people will stop buying it and that will be the end of it.
