Don't buy Magic Jack it is unreliable. I definately wouldn't use it as your only telephone.

For one thing it has to be connected to your computers USB port and your computer has to be on in order to place phone calls. My problem with the magic jsck is a lot of times when I pick up the phone the phone is dead... no dial tone! And the fuuny thing is I can still bring up the magic jack software on my pc and then use my keyboard to punch in a phone number and place a phone call but I when I pick up my phone that's connected to the magic jack there is no dial tone. So to get my phone to work I have to unplug the magic jack from the USB port and then plug it back in again so the pc will recogixe that its been plugged in. Then I will see a window come up which shows that the magic jack is initializing. Then the magic jack software comes up so then I can hear the dialtone on my phone. Then it works for a while. But later on I will try to make a phone call from the phone that is connected to the magic jack, but there won't be a dialtone. So I will again be forced to unplug the magic jack from the USB port and plug it back again to be able to use my phone. And I have to do this over and over again throughou the day to be able to make a phonecall. One day my landline didn't work and all I had for an alternatvie was the magic jack. I tied to use the magic jack and it didn't work either. The other problem I have with the magic jack is when somoen calls you it will only show their phone number but it won't show thier name. When I first got the magic jack two years ago I contacted them and asked them when will they be changing it so the caller id will show the name of the caller and they told me that they were working on it! That was two years ago and they still haven't done it! Now if your just using the magic jack for an alternative phone fine, but don't rely on it to call 911 in an emergency becuase you pc has to be turned on to place a call and if you are dying and you need to call 911 immediately you will have to wait for your computer to stat up to place the 911 call! Which could mean the difference between life and death. The magic jack works ok sometimes but in my expreience its unreliable. It might come in handy if you know someone in another country and you buy the magic jack and send it to them. So they can place free phonecalls to you or anyone in the united states or canada. And they can place free phone calls to others who have the magic jack.

I HAVE BEEN USING MAGIC JACK FOR ABOUT TWO YEARS, AND THEIR CUSTOMER SERVICE HAS GOTTEN WORSE. I BOUGHT A MAGIC JACK, SPENT $39.95 PLUS CO. STATE AND LOCAL TAX, THEN, I SPENT ANOTHER $19.95 PLUS CO. STATE AND LOCAL TAX, TO KEEP MY NUMBER, WHICH NO ONE AT MAGIC JACK, TOLD ME THAT I WOULD HAVE TO PAY EXTRA, JUST TO KEEP MY NUMBER, AND IF THAT ISN'T BAD ENOUGH THEN FOR THE PAST 4 WEEKS, I HAVE BEEN UNABLE TO CALL MY FAMILY IN SD. OR RECEIVE CALLS FROM THEM!!! THAT'S RIGHT 4 WEEKS WITHOUT BEING ABLE TO STAY IN TOUCH WITH MY FAMILY!!! THAT'S WHY, I BOUGHT THE STUPID MAGIC JACK, AND NOW, BECAUSE IT'S PAST THE 30 DAY TRIAL PERIOD THEY REFUSE TO REFUND ONE CENT BACK TO ME!!!
THOSE LYING THEIFS, THEIR NOTHING BUT COWARDS, AND THAT'S WHY THEY DON'T USE OR HAVE PHONES, BECAUSE THEIR NOTHING BUT LYING FRAUDS, AND I REGRET HAVING EVER PURCHASED A MAGIC JACK, AND THE WORST PART, I USE TO RECOMMEND MAGIC JACK, TO ALL MY FRIENDS AND FAMILY, AND I EVEN STOOD UP, AND DEFENDED MAGIC JACK, WHEN PEOPLE WOULD, PUT IT DOWN, AND LOOK HERE I AM!!!

I used to have cable and switched to DSL. My Magic Jack worked great on cable, but n ow the file won't open. I plug in the MJ and the grey MJ symbol comes up but it won't open to the page where it lists all your calls, etc. Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong? Confused

I got the MJ 4months after I had ordered it. I was charged through my credit card the FULL amount without even recieving the damn thing!!! Does anyone out there know how to get through to customer service>
