Scam - for over priced magazines
On Saturday, March 19, 2011 I received a call on my cell phone saying I had the great fortune of being chosen as a finalist in the Publishers' Clearing house and won a diamond watch and free magazines. The caller was very charming and talked about coming to my door with balloons if I shouldwin because their company lets who ever contacts the winner get to present them with the $100, 000. She could sell honey to a honey bee as my Mom would say. Her name was Sandy she helped me chose what magazines I could get free - they had pre- selected some for me if I would like those - anything I said was "a great choice!" You are being transferred from one person to the next - with no time to think (How much am I paying for these magazines...what am I actually getting) Next thing I know they are recording me - so they say and going over my magazines and the 5 years of 5 magazines, becomes 3 magazines for five years and 2 magazines or 2 years. The amount I am told is $59.80 a month for 16 months. The money will be taken out around the 25th of the month. The magazines will start in 2-3 months, a voucher in the mail will be coming to complete and return because it is a real Geneva watch with a diamond that I will be getting. This all happens so fast you have no time to check the internet, consider what they are telling you. On Monday I called to cancel within the 3 days I am told it is unable to be cancelled because they pre-paid for the service. They are not very nice at the customer service number - basically say they can't cancel for you because then they would have to cancel for everyone else too. You could always hang up if you didn't want the service. They had already taken the first $59.80 out of my bank account on Saturday right after they talked to me. They say if stop payment, they will turn me over to a collection agency and will fight for the total amount due even if I never receive a magazine or the diamond watch! If anyone says you win anything - I advise to hang up!!! Now I am trying to warn others of this scam by contacting my Attorney General and filing a complaint, the Better Business Bureau and the Federal Trade Commission. Sometimes things happen for a reason and I believe my experience can warn others of this scam and hopfully they will be out of business because everyone will hang up on them when they call! Please spread the word don't give them any information - just say "Hell No" as my brother said and hang up the phone! Lesson learned and now I will not keep silent because that is what they depend on so they can prey on the next person. They want you to feel stupid and ashamed and keep quiet until they get all of their money for doing nothing. After researching on the internet, the magazines do not come as promised, some do not get a watch, (a cheap one at that). The only part that is sure is that your money will disappear from your bank account, usually faster than the monthly payments they agree to take out. Please do not give them any more business - or any of your money -it is a scam!!!
