I am writing to you to complain about an offensive scene in tonight's episode of fair city on rte aired on the 28th august. The scene in question is set in a prison cell, where two criminals of some sort, are arguing and discussing criminal activity.The background of the cell is a white wall and hung right in the centre of the wall is the proclamation of independence of the Irish republic.Was it crucial to this scene that this symbol of Irish freedom was slapped on the wall of a criminals cell. In previous episodes this individual was drug dealing, murdering and involved in various other illegal enterprises. I wonder if the united states, or other "free world democracies " would tolerate such innuendo. Nothing less than the resignation of the editor of fair city and a public apology on rte before and after the next episode, would see this insult to the Irish people undone. The absence of either would not say much for the state of our national broadcaster. I am grateful to those who gave they're lives for what the proclamation stands for, we would not have the Ireland of today or tomorrow without they're sacrifice, this episode suggests a link between heroes and criminals, this is unacceptable and a new low in state broadcasting.
