Mrs. Tarannum fathima aged about 34 yrs. She is known case of PCOD{poly cystic ovarian disease} and hypothyroidism [under control]. She approached Dr G.L.Maiya at Agrasen hospital for the rectification of her epigastric hernia. She also opted for Ovarian drilling procedure for her PCOD. The above-referred doctor agreed to take both the procedures in one sitting with the help of a Gynecologist. And advised the pt to shift to MAIYA NURSING HOME as he opined that Agrasen hospital did not have the lapscroscopic equipments and did not have an ICU. Pt was evaluated at Maiya Hospital pre-operatively and was found to be medically fit with respect to all her clinical parameters.

Dr decided to operate on this pt on 13 Oct 2006. Started at 2 pm and ended at 6 pm. Pt was taken to ICU from the operation theater stating that she had some breathing distress due to her obesity. She was shifted back to the ward after about 8 hrs, without any much improvement. The Respiratory distress continued till the next day but was thought to be temporary phenomena. On 3rd day when the urine output was not sufficient the duty Doctor was again consulted, they were not able to give any conclusive answer and shifted the pt back to ICU. They suspected Pulmonary embolism, thrombus and later they also of septicemia.and ACUTE RENAL FAILURE. During this time her Hb and Bp was stated to be low. Pt was treated with heparine 25000units. Later with this confusion we decided to shift the pt to Bangalore hospital[16 Oct 06] for further management..Since then pt was under Dr Rajanna Shridher- nephrologist. She was under dialysis for about 23 times. In between on 19 Oct she again had excessive bleeding [about 1.3lts] from the incision due to which her Hb was reduced to about to 3.5mg/dl. For this she received about 55units of blood over a period of about 10 days. She was in ICU for about 20 days. On 23 rd of November she started secreting urine in large quantities. Later she had fungal infection of her central line and due to this the central line had to be removed and a fistula operation was undertaken on her left hand. The hospital stay for all these was 2 months.[Oct 13th to12 Dec 06] Pt was discharged on the advice that she had to come for dressing every alternate day.. Patient underwent dressing for her wound at the site of operation. She underwent the dressing for about 4 months but the gap did not fill up. So the Surgeons felt that they have to operate again and remove a part of the mesh that was not covered up. This procedure was taken up on May 12th 2007.
Important points.
1. Some doctors are of opinion that in a case of Hypothyroidism and obesity, two procedures should not be taken at same time. THEY SHOULD BE TAKEN ONE AFTER THE OTHER AFTER A CONSIDERABLE GAP BETWEEN THE TWO.[When the patient is recovered completely]
2. Post operative care was lacking and immediate remedial measures were not taken in response to Low Blood Pressure, low Hemoglobin and low urine output, which resulted in Acute Renal Failure.
3. Further the confusion of the state of the patient led doctors to make irresponsible prescriptions, which resulted in further complications in the health of the patient. [Prescriptions of Heparin]
4. If these points were taken care initially the patient would have been saved from the further complications, the agony and the mental torture of the patient and the family, and the financial loss which occurred could have been easily avoided.

Respected Sir/madam
I would please like you to help me, regarding a case of negligence on the part of the doctor as well as the nursing home where I had under gone a surgery.
I have been through a lot of problems after the surgery, which I had not been warned of before the surgery.
Now that I have recovered fully I SURELY would like to get justice, I was nearing death because of a negligent doctor and the hospital.
I have approached a lawyer to get assistance; she has gone through all my papers
And says that the case is strong, but I would require a doctor who will vouch for me against the hospital and the doctor.
I have been trying most of them will acknowledge that the doctor has done something wrong during surgery, but will back out say that they don’t want to get into legal matters.
NOW I DON’T know whom to reach out to, to get help.
IT is not just the question of money, imagine my parents and my whole family under went a lot o f problems mentally, physically and financially to get me out of this situation. and during this whole episode the doctor who did the surgery did not once also turn up to find out as to what happened to his patient.
I am enclosing my case summary too for you reference. Kindly please do the needful and help me.
THANKING YOU
TARANNUM FATHIMA
