Fraud

I was working in my yard this afternoon when a young lady stopped me and introduced herself as a neighbor. She said she was home for the summer from college ( University of Michigan) where her major was theater. HOWEVER, she did need to quickly raise money for a trip to London in 4 days so she was selling magazines. I did not need any magazines, so she said I could contribute towards subscriptions going to our troops overseas. I thought that sounded good, and being naive and gullible, I wrote her a check for $30.00. After going online, I feel so foolish for falling for this scam. I immediately stopped payment on the check in hopes that they haven't cashed it yet. I thought of sending a telegram per their cancellation instructions, and realized I only had a PO Box for an address. Lesson learned.

Not a legit company

Young man says he is neighbor trying to raise money for a soccer tournament out of state. He says "the subscription goes to those serving in the military in the hospitals in Bagdad". Gives me a receipt and says it is tax deductible. My fault that I did not read the receipt right then and there, because it does state on the receipt it is a profit organization.

After researching the company more after he had left I found that this company is a scamming company and those subscriptions will never go to those serving our country and that the young man was most likely not actually on a soccer team.
