Cheating on US Tour
Cheating and Fraudulent by Betrayal Makemytrip.com

I had been lured by attractive advertisements from Makemytrip.com in the leading newspapers promising out of the world experience on a holiday tour to United States during the summer vacations. On contacting Makemytrip.com executive, Mr. Anil Kumar promised the same and handed over a printed brochure containing several attractive formats of tours to United States. I was promised of high standards of Service, Hotels, Airlines, Local Travels, Food and Tour guide during the holidays.

I informed him that I have already paid advance to a much more reputed travel company for similar tour for my family of three adults and one child and I had no intention of changing it to your organization. I also told the executive that my query was only for the reason that the advertisement interested me because CEO Mr Deep Kalra had been living next door to my residence of over 8 years and I was curious to know of the offer. On knowing this, the executive persuaded me more vigorously to change my mind. Considering various factors, I got enticed in to the sweet web of communications of the organization and shifted my travel preference to Makemytrip.com. I also had to forgo my advance payment of Rs.78, 000/- made to other company.

Accordingly, I chose the tour option listed as American Extravaganza and paid a total amount of Rs. 7, 26, 780/- after reducing the US VISA charges (VISA already available) as per the quotation of one Ms. Priyanka Singh; service coordinator; dealing with me for day to day updating. I had paid the said money on the basis of 3 adults sharing a triple room and a child without bed (my son aged 12 was treated as adult).

I was promised 3 beds in a triple room (alternatively a double bed and an extra bed). The hotels promised were minimum 4 star standards and a due listing (including hotel vouchers) was also given. I was also promised due comfort of good quality food in breakfast and dinner as part of the paid amount. A tour guide of good standard was also promised. Also it was promised that the airlines shall be of minimum standard and shall ensure good standard service including on board meals/drinks.

Trusting several promises made by the company, Mr.Anil Kumar, Ms.Priyanka Singh and the reasons listed above, we boarded our tour on 26th May. To our horror, the unbelievable started to show its colors right at Dubai, the first transit airport. The tour guide, named Aftab Irani, joined. But not alone, his wife, daughter and sister also were with him. He introduced himself and that’s it. It was the end of his attention towards the group. He seemed to be on a family vacation busy with the family members all the time without bothering the customers.

Next day we landed at Washington DC and were transferred to a hotel located in a remote area away from the main city (nearly 8 miles from city). The hotel had no kitchen and room service. The breakfast served was only a few fruits, corn flakes and bread with butter. We were told to rest for the day. During the lunch period, no possibility of having a meal even if it was to be paid by us. The room given to us had only two single beds and not three as were promised and paid for. On inquiring with the tour guide, Mr.Aftab Irani, he showed his helplessness by saying that he had no role in matters relating to the rooms, hotels and the meals.And then began the unending saga of the awful experiences.

Same story city after city. Flight after flight. Day after day. Mr.Aftab Irani, would be perennially busy with his own family without a bother to the group. Will show helplessness for the third bed. The breakfast continued to be same all through the tour excepting cruise. The dinners would be in highly unhygienic Indian restaurants everyday, already overcrowded with several other small group tour operated by smaller companies. No place to sit down. Ordered to finish the dinner in 30 minutes else the tour bus shall not wait. Bad food. Mr.Aftab Irani, busy with own family, unbothered for guests. Poor quality and remotely located hotels and only two single beds. I had to sleep on floor every day. Heated arguments by Mr.Aftab Irani, saying not to disturb him in the matter and he can not help.

Several telephone calls to Priyanka bringing no result; on the fifth night (1st June) when I could find no solution and could not sleep, wrote an email to ms. Priyanka at 11.30 in the night cautioning her to mend the ways and deliver as was promised. I also threatened to proceed legally if the poor show continued. It was also written that she must forward a copy to CEO Mr. Deep Kalra. She did not bother to reply. Mr. Anil telephoned the next day and tried to pacify by saying that he would ensure that the problem of third bed is solved. Nothing changed. Next day onwards, he also stopped lifting his mobile same way as Priyanka.

The misery continued. Through the entire tour, I slept on the floor without bed. The bad quality breakfasts and unhygienic dinners continued. On several occasions we (my family) did not consume either and opted to remain hungry. Mr.Aftab Irani, remained occupied with his own family and would not even bother to listen and rebut by saying no problem to him if we remained hungry or if I slept on the floor.

Airline also delayed several flights. Also no food/drinks were served by it since you had purchased the cheaper versions of the flights. Hotels changed overnight. Mostly were 3 star or below and were always remotely located.

Several days were unnecessarily wasted in waiting at the airport since Mr.Aftab Irani, would take the tour to airport up to 5 hours before the schedule flight departure time.

I feel that I was misled, frauded, cheated, betrayed and criminally conspired into a deliberate act by you, your company, the executives named above and the tour guide. It caused immense mental agony, harassment and inconvenience to me and my family. It also caused a total spoilage of the summer vacation of me and my children besides causing a huge financial loss.

I now demand apologies from the company and the other people involved as named, refund of monies paid with suitable compensation. In case the same is not followed, I shall definitely proceed with criminal charges against one and all involved; under various CrPCs and shall seek suitable remedies as available to me under various laws of the land. I also shall ensure that the public is made aware of the same via national press and other media. I also reserve my rights to forward my nightmarish experience to various govt. authorities that affect the trade.

Cancellation Overcharge above Normal Fees
I booked 3 return tickets to India from Newark, NJ to Ahmedabad, India on AirAidia for June 26th, 2010 on makemytrip.com website. For unavoidable reason i needed to cancel these tickets. I called them to inquire about the cancellation fees and i was told $375 per passenger which include their $50 cancellation fee plus $325 by AirIndia. This seemed high becaue i had Refundable tickets so i called AirIndia (gave my PNR) twice and both time different agents told me that the fee is $200 plus the agency cancellation fee listed on my confirmation (which clearly states $50 per passenger).

After second call to makemytrip.com at 800-463-4210and questioning why i am asked to pay $175 more then the airline cancellation charge, i was asked to hold and Anuska (agent) told me that it will be only $325 per passenger. So i asked why it is way higher then it should be and told her that AirIndia agent told me that i should not be charged more then $250 per passenger. So she hanged up on me. I called back and this time i got Rohit on phone to whom i explained the fee overcharge then he said because they are getting discount from AirIndia, by cancellation this ticket they will loose it and that is why. I told him that but that does not have to do anything with the cancellation fee i am getting charges. I asked him that makemytrip should charge the actual fees and not inflated fees so that in future the customer comes back to reserve the tickets again. So after making me on hold he says that he talked to somebody whom agreed to forgo $50 for each passenger and onlyu charge me $300 per passenger, I said but last agent told me $325 so $50 minus will be $275, he said no it will be $300 or i need to call AirIndia and ask them to put a note in their system for this PNR that they will charge $200 cancellation charge and he said when i call back they will look it up and charge $250 for each.

I called AirIndia and they said they can not leave any note in their system and to ask for that by an agency is absurd as they know it can not be done and a way of overcharging fees to customer.

I think this MakeMyTrip.com is unfair in charging excess fees to customer and i ask readers to think twice before booking with such agency. I will caution one more thing that this agency charges your credit card in India so you will be paying extra 3% to your credit card bank for foreign transaction fees on top of ticket charges.

ticket not booked
I had a very very bad experience with makemytrip.com US. I booked two continental flights from san francisco-delhi in June for travel on DECember 21st for $2208 (before christmas fares are very high) and they went through online, Also I got confirmation from makemytrip. Next day makemytrip agent calls me and tells me that your booking has not gone through, she tried to give me different date ticket which was after the christmas which I never wanted to take.

After 1 month of calling to their helpline number and shouting on them, I gave up, They gave me a longer flight with 4 stopover and takes 50 hours to reach delhi (instead of 20hrs). I had no option but to take it, because prices got very hiked for dates of christmas. Also they issued me paper tickets.

10 days before the actual flight, makemytrip emailed me and said, your ticket schedule has been changed, and the paper ticket got cancelled, and they will not allow me to board the plane with this paper ticket. Nobody in helpline, nobody in Newyork office helped me. I helped myself contacted Malaysia airline LA office directly, but they say ticket has been issued by travel agent bastard makemytrip and they cannot do anything, I faxed them copy of tickets, I sent makemytrip back old tickets, and then they issued me new tickets when my fall semester exams were going. I was so freeked out and so depressed and annoyed at that time,

I take pledge that me or any of my relative or any of my friend will never book ticket from makemytrip and I will take all my efforts to bring the business of this company down. They are the baddest travel agent in this world.
In lieu to save $30 on makemytrip, I ended up spending $100 or more, (on overnight couriers, faxes, phone calls, exam grades fucked, so much of mental harrasement, tension )

over charged for air ticket
on 6-3-2010 i booked air ticket from Ahmedabad to Bangalore by Go air.date of journey was 08-02-2010.
during the booking process the electronic sytem which takes care of payment from debit card of SBI failed and on second attempt also failed. only on third attempt the ticket got confirmed. when i checked my account in SBI after completion of my journey, the amount Rs 5178/- has been deducted from my account twice. (total Rs 10, 356/-).
i am repeatedly contacting customer service from Make my trip for last 49 days as on date.so far no action has been taken, every day a new person from customer care comes up and asks for bank statement, same has been sent to every one who asks for statement.
this is a very bad service and they don, t have a basic curtsey to reply me and inform me about the status of the complaint or the action taken from their end.
they have a standard electronic reply format which glares at me every day as a reply to my mails.

ticket not through payment made
Dear sir/madam,
I am A. Arumugam from chennai, my SBI debit card No.6220180327500097693. I have booked a air tkt with makemytrip travels for my son Ravichandran Arumugam on 22/3/10 for the journey from Melbourne to Singapore and Singapore to Melbourne (ID: IN1003B08238) using the above mentioned SBI Debit Card following instructions from the bank I made the payment through my computer. I was asked to wait till the payment is complete, after long minutes the computer displayed as #ERROR; the server cannot process your request#.
When I checked with the make my trip travels, they said the transaction is not authorised by your bank and the ticket was not booked so you can contact your bank. Then I checked my bank a/c and the above transaction for Rs.49782/- was debited in my a/c.
Hence I request to revert the transaction and credit the above amount into my savings a/c. No.10146593409. Pleases do the needful at the earliest. My email ID is : [email protected], my mobile No. 9444011440. Thanking you, Yours, A.Arumugam

Refund Not Received for Air Ticket Cancellation
I have canceled 2 tickets booked online via MakeMyTrip.com. The booking reference ids are as under:

FLT00007548804
FLT00007218952

The refund amount for the cancellations was not credited to my account. Inspite of repeated mails, calls to customer care the company has failed to give me a satisfactory reply. The cancellation refund amounts to 12500/- (approx) and the amount refunded to me is only 1178/-

Every time the customer care individuals tell me that the refund has been made but there are no credits to my bank account.

In case the MakeMyTrip.com says that the refund has been generated they MUST supply following details:

1. DATE OF REFUND
2. BANK ACCOUNT NO & BANK NAME
3. AMOUNT OF REFUND
4. WIRE TRANSFER NO.

PS: The followup calls & mails has resulted in a wastage of my time & Money

Overcharge by MakeMyTrip
I booked an round-trip air ticket on Nov 11 with booking ID of FLT00007762988. The total charge was Rs4873. At night I was called and told the return flight 9W-2121 was not available. I checked the website again and when the service person called back, I told her to change the return flight to G8-371 (from the flight on Sun night to Mon morning). I remember the quoted price of G8-371 at the time was Rs200-300 cheaper than the 9W-2121. But the billing amount in invoice I received the following day remained Rs4873. I made several requests via hotline and email, but no satisfactory response was received.

All the information I received from [email protected] look quite illogical, inconsistent and ill-grounded.

1) I received in email titled “MakeMyTrip E-Ticket for Booking ID FLT00007762988” on Nov 11. It shows the charge for departure flight and return flight Rs2333 respectively, but with a total charge of Rs4873. So far I didn’t get an explanation under what account rule Rs2333 + 2333 equals Rs4873. I don’t think this invoice would be regarded valid by any government agency or organization.

2) "At the outset, we apologize for the inconvenience caused to you. With reference to your mail we would like to inform the price for Mumbai to bang lore which was been booked by you was 2333 INR and the ticket is issued in the amount of 2229.
We have process this request to the concerned department to process an amount of 104 INR. We request to please cross check with your bank after 10 working days."

- I received this email on Nov 18 from [email protected] on behalf of [email protected]. No refund ever happened.

3) At my request, they sent me this new 'correct invoice'.

- My question remains the same: there are no mathematical equations here. Rs1+Rs2339+Rs200 ≠ Rs2592, Rs1+Rs2228 ≠ Rs2281. Besides, the total amount for departure flight SG344 here(Rs2592) is different from the number in the original invoice(Rs2333). Why? These figures look to me suspiciously manipulated. I sent mails on Nov 24, Nov 25 and Dec 16 for further clarification on these points and was not responded ever since.

5) Below is the last mail I received from [email protected] on Dec 6.

They still didn't have a clue which return flight on earth I actually take. Is that the reason why it’s so difficult to figure out the correct billing amount?


I cannot believe these sloppy and self-contradictory messages come from single one company if there be any internal training and control systems in place.

The price difference is trivial. But the indiffernce and arrogance they show really makes my indignant. Simply because this is smal money, they can rightfully put this money into pocket without giving a justified reason to the customer? When issuing or making up invoices, they don't even bother to make it look mathematically correct at least. What can I say?

I will go to file a consumer grievance complaint againt MakeMyTrip on deceitful business, or faking invoice, or simply road robbery.

Please think twice before you book on MakeMyTrip. If you are bold enough to go, make sure you take screen shot for every step during the online transaction, keep all the sent and received emails, and record all the conversations in serivce line, in case you go to a lawsuit against them in future.

worst e-ticket format and no return ticket information
e-ticket which they sent has no return ticket information though i booked return ticket open for my parents visit visa . Immigration at hyderabad stopped my parents as printed e-ticket itinerary does not show return ticket information . after 3 hours discussion with Airlines & immigration, airlines checked the ticket on their system and gave the print out of complete e-ticket itinerary including return .
when i called make my trip customer care, they are keep saying no need to show return ticket at immigration . this customer care sucks... I relazed one more time how the quality of indian airlines travel agent support .

I never recomend booking through this site though they offer less fare.. it's a big hassle

Most arrogant service you can expect .. charged me Rs14176 and issued no ticket, the guy by the name of piyush cannot even issue a complaint number to me . and they issued no ticket.. these guys are #$%^&*(... wasted more than 25 mins on phone and went no where .. be careful of makemytrip.com.

Fraudulent double charges on Credit Card
Hello, Add me to the long-list of the miserables who've used a Credit Card on MakeMyTrip.com & paid twice. On 16th June, I tried booking a ticket on Mumbai-Riyadh-Mumbai sector on makemytrip.com for 18th travel date. I was happy at the fares shown on makemytrip.com website as they were the cheapest. I was using a friend's (Mr Virendra K.)credit card trying to complete the booking. However, the site wouldn't take my booking citing problems with the credit card.

Naturally, I gave up, But, soon as I received a call from their call centre (they must've gotten my details from the form I filled on their page). One Mr Avi Jain asked me why I abandoned purchase of the ticket & offered help. When I complained that the site was turning down the credit card, he asked us to try again. When that failed, I requested him to send me the ticket offline; i was willing to pay cash. He blocked the ticket & I was directed to their MIDC, Andheri office to pay in cash & collect the ticket the next day. I repeatedly enquired whether they'd still charged the Credit Card & he denied saying the transaction has not gone through.

Since the fare was cheap, I dashed to their Andheri office the next day morning. I met one Ms Sangeeta Jadhav who completed the transaction & gave me my ticket for 18th June. Their booking ID is IN0906B04541 I was so enamored that I offered to send them a complimentary email for their good service, which I did.

But, little did I know that my nightmare had just begun. When I came back from Riyadh, my friend called me to inform that makemytrip.com still charged the Credit Card with the full ticket amount. I was aghast. When I called Ms Sangeeta Jadhav in their Andheri office, she pointed out that this was routine system error & all I needed to do was send them a fax of the statement to reverse the charges. And then makemytrip.com's true colours started unfolding.

I must've send 10 faxes, but on every call after that they claimed that no fax was received, inspite of we having a Fax sent confirmation. Then we sent the scan of the Credit Card statement. Again, none was received & whenever they received it, it was not opening.

After too much pestering, their Gurgoan call centre asked to send the details now to their Gurgaon office. Again all the faxes sent were not received & their telephones just kept ringing away. I kept blasting away emails threatening to complain to consumer forums but nothing worked. All I kept getting was canned service emails repeatedly asking to send the statement scans again.

Just on curiosity, I googled Makemytrip.com for consumer complaints & what do I find? They are notorious for this double-charging, snagging credit card details, cheating on refunds & what not! No wonder the consumer forum complaint did not work on them; this is their business model - double charge & loot whichever unsuspecting guy happens to give them their Credit Card details.

Honestly, I don't know if I'll ever get back my money. The next credit card statement has come in with interest levied on their previous amount. I hope to get justice & money back. Also, I want to know if there is a way to punish & shut down fraud companies like MakeMyTrip.com.
