I was contacted by this "law firm" in connection with a debt account that was purchased by AAA Credit Service Collection Agency.
The debt in question is valid... I owe the money, and was not reached by the original creditor prior to the sale of the debt to AAA. Upon first contact by AAA, I agreed to go on a payment plan. I submitted an initial payment. About a week before the second payment was due, I was contacted by someone from "Marc D Wasserman." Turns out its really the same people. They are attempting to strong arm me into signing an agreement in order to continue on my payment plan. As part of that agreement, they have instituted a 10% interest per annum (which comes out to an entire additional monthly payment, when all is said and done). In addition, they stipulate on the agreement that in the event I miss any payment, that I agree to be solely responsible for all legal fees associated with and legal processing. What this means is that if they decide to take legal action... even if I win and they lose (which is unlikely in my case), I would be responsible for paying all legal fees.
The whole point of my report is that these are crafty and crooked folks who will stop at nothing to wrangle you out of your money. If you are like me, and have a valid debt, it is a sticky situation. You can have a lawyer review the documents they send (probably will cost you ~$300 for that)... but that doesn't mean AAA will change the terms.
Still... be careful what you sign with these folks. They WILL try to make you fail and make even more money off of you. If you have any options (debt consolidation loans, or borrowing money from friends) I strongly recommend that you do whatever it takes to NOT sign one of these agreements.
