For starters I would like to say that there are other companies with the same name in other cities, owned by completely different people and not associated at all.
This company claims that they offer marine assistance towing 24/7 throughout the normal boating season. I was out sailing with my father on July 28/2010, part of the "normal boating season", when we had an small engine fire. We contained the small fire and secured the boat as we called Marine Towing and Salvage a.k.a. "MTAS". We hailed them on channel 16 on the VHF and even called their call center. There was no response, on both communication mediums. Keep in mind we have a 68' mast with a 5' marine VHF antenna that has been functioning all day, and we were 5 nm from the downtown core, so our radio equiptment was obviously operational and in range. We ended up calling in the Canadian Coast Guard to tow us in, a huge waste of government resources and a waste of rescuers time.
In short, we relied on this "24/7" marine assistance towing company to help us when we needed it, and they were no where to be found. We would've been their perfect customer, and they were no where to be found. If you're ever looking for marine assistance in the Toronto area please look around first, and try everything to avoid MTAS.
