Terrible house
I was happy to move into my house in June 2007. In Oct., I noticed a leak from the roof in the garage.Being that the roof is only 3 years old, I called Martin and Sons to honor the 10 year warranty and come fix the roof.They finally came out after several weeks after I complained that I had put a log in the fireplace and the house quickly filled up with smoke (yes..the flue was open). My friend went on the roof to see where the leak was coming from and noticed roofing debris strewn about with chunks of roofing tile in the gutters. Flashing was missing in several places especially where the leak was at and some roof tiles were even on backwards!! The water from the roof had started to get into the foundation around the fireplace(which is the reason that caused all that smoke).They finally came after about 1 month and numerous phone calls and complaints. 3 people came, the supervisor and 2 coworkers. My friend went on the roof with them to show them the poor workmanship that had caused the leak. The coworkers were laughing and pointing out all the mistakes until they were sent to sit in the car to be quiet. The supervisor agreed with my friend that it was a lousy job. He even shook his hand and said that it would be taken care of the following week. I did not hear from them. When I called, I explained that I was informed that the work would be corrected and the damaged caused by this inferior job would also be fixed. I spoke to "Chris" who informed me that that was not what she was told. She said that they put the second roof layer on and they were not responsible for any leaks caused by the underlying roof!!! She stated that whatever work was done on the roof was requested by the previous owners and that "Maybe they just wanted it to look nice." I contacted the previous owners who were furious at this company because they had expected that a quality job had been done. Martin and Sons basically said it was my problem and they had no intentions of fixing it. The owner Todd was never in when I called and I repeatedly asked if I could meet with him or if he would at least call me so we could discuss this.I called several lawyers in town but they said it was either a conflict of interest because they represented Martin and Sons or they were friends with them. I am disgusted that they can get away with this. They were "busy" after the tornadoes we experienced a few months ago in Kenosha because they were repairing roofs...I hope those poor people don't become the next victims. Ironically, I called again last week and they were out of their office because they had issues with their own roof at work!!They are ALSO members of the Better Business Bureau...what a joke. Please help me expose this inferior business as they obviously have no pride in the work they do. My garage wall is beginning to buckle and I fear my chimney will begin to slide and crack with the foundation as the damage progresses. It is a crime that this company can make the consumer feel like a helpless victim.Warning the consumers of this company is the first step in preventing future victims. I can only hope that you choose to share my story and that it might be an incentive for them to "save face" and HONOR THY WARRANTY!!
