Can't get their phone number right
Mathis Brothers has been posting my work phone number on their promotional ads and in the internet yellow pages. They can't seem to get this problem corrected and I am getting phone calls for them everyday. I have bought furniture from them and have been disappointed with the quality of the furniture. A coffee table I bought this year has a few ceramic tile pieces for decoration that came off the table as we were assembling it. I bought a bedroom suite from them about 6 years ago that has an issue with the drawers not pushing all the way in. I have 2 drawers on the 6 draw chest that will not completely push in.

Offensive customer service
We had a defective mattress from one of MBF's stores, Rooms Today. Customer service directed us to Mathis Brothers and we began dealing with them. We were met with extreme hostility at all steps when trying to resolve the issue. A representative from the company came to our home and acknowledged that the mattress in question was indeed defective. We were advised to go to Mathis Brothers to choose a replacement mattress, as we were under warranty.
We went to MB and found the mattress that the salesperson stated was "identical" to the one we already had (it was the new model, but 3 salespersons have told us they are the exact same mattress, including the woman we originally bought it from, which is why we bought it). We then came back the next day to meet with the customer service department to complete the exchange details. The customer service representative (Joe) greeted us impolitely and did not get up from his desk to acknowledge us. We were told that we would have to pay $60 for the company to come pick up our DEFECTIVE mattress and bring our new mattress. We then were told that we would only receive store credit, which would not allow us to replace the mattress with one of equal quality because the price had gone up 30% in the FOUR months since we purchased the defective mattress. We were also told that we could not be refunded our money.
Because we could not believe that we were being asked to pay $360+ just because we had a defective product, we asked to speak to the manager (Tom), who met us at customer service. Tom approached us with a very combative attitude from the beginning and never showed any sign of listening to what we had to say. I cannot put into words (at least in polite company) how unthinkably offensive and disrespectful Tom acted toward us. We explained to him that there was a difference in returning the product (and getting store credit) versus having a warranty that should replace a defective product. He cut us off and said we would have to talk to another customer service person the following day (Justin Lewis). As he walked out the door, he stated, "you didn't even buy the mattress at this store!" While that is correct, the tone of the comment was that we were *** and/or cheap. We had been told that if we had any issues with our mattress, we could return it and have it replaced with another just like it. This absolutely was not the case.
The entire situation was clearly a bait-and-switch. We bought a defective product, we are not being given a replacement or one of equivalent quality, and are also not being given our money back.

Charge more for prepaid furnituref
I took my client into Ontario store. Within one hour we purchased approx. $10, 000 worth of furniture off the floor. We then saw two chairs on the floor for $2895.75 each that had been sold. My client wanted the exact chairs and was willing to wait for the "special order". We go downstairs, wait for the salesman to write up the order and invoices. My client pays $16, 530.00 cash for this order. This date is 02/01/10. Two weeks later I get a phone call from the salesman saying that there was a mistake on the two chairs order and we owe Mathis Bros. over $1200.00 more for them. Todays date is March 1, 2010 and I am still in shock that during this time I have spoken to several salesmen telling them I have never heard of such an incident in my 15 years of doing business. THEIR MISTAKE !!! Today the manager L. G. told the salesman to call me and they would "go halves with my client" and ask him for another $641.00 !!! This client has spent in approx. 3 hours total time over 2 trips to the store $30, 000.

Sold our sofas out from under us, even with a deposit!!
A little over a year ago when we purchased a burgandy leather sofa & loveseat, they had only the loveseat on hand but said the sofa would be in within the next couple of weeks, which required a large deposit. When it came in the rep called to say I needed to pay the remainder of the balance even though we wouldn't be picking it up for 3 days. We came in that Saturday to pay and pick up and they had sold our order. I had words with the rep and manager(who was useless & rude). They actually wanted me to shop again and find something else I liked, yah right! Have you ever heard of someone putting a deposit down and having it soldout from under them like that? I later heard stories from others with the same complaint. Most be a common occurance with them.

Fraud
We purchased a sectional from Mathis Brothers in Ontario on August 10, 2009. At the same time we special ordered a matching ottoman and pillows to go with the sectional. We were told 6 weeks for the special order and paid in full.
We called in October to find out what the status of the special order was and we were told the pillows were in, but not the ottoman. In December we were told the ottoman was in but not the pillows.
When I spoke with the sales manager, the sales associate would not longer call us back, he was rude and condescending. I was told that special orders take awhile. He also told me "well you only paid $239.00 for the sofa." Don't know where he got that information because we paid over 10 times that amount for the sectional.
Finally today January 23, 2010, over 6 months later our ottoman and pillows were delivered. I will never shop at Mathis Brothers again. We looked for a sectional for over 6 months and decided to buy from Mathis Brothers because of their "good name." Had I known I would have passed them by.

Fraud and cheating
I bought a recliner/rocker in April. I did not get the right chair. I could not get back into the store until the 1st part of June. At that time I was told it was to late. I should have come in within 30 days.
This really is not right. I should have been given the right chair in the first place. I know you will not do anything but just wanted you to know that I do not think that is a good policy.
I think if someone is given the wrong thing it should be replaced as long as it is not torn up. Which mine still looks like it did the day I got it as I do not sit in it, as it is very uncomfortable.
