Quilt racks - poor workmanship
I ordered two quilt hangers. When I received them the knobs were broken-it looked like the knobs had been screwed on too tight and they had cracked right up the middle. The pieces were very crooked and rough to the touch. There was maybe one coat of varnish on the pieces (He said on his website he puts 3-4 coats on), and that was spotty at best. He shipped the hangers in a box he taped together by cutting off the ends of both boxes so that it would be long enough. When we contacted him, sending him pics and relaying our displeasure in the racks he said that it was the shippers problem since the knobs were broken. I informed him I thought the problem was poor workmanship and I was not pleased with them. After several emails, he still believes that the shipper should take the fall, in fact he said they are responsible to pay all the money we are out because the knobs were broken. However I feel the knobs were screwed on too tight in the first place and in my opinion they were cracked when they were put in the box. I refuse to make the shipper pay for his crappy workmanship, so I am out the $50.00. He also said they he felt the racks were fine and beauty was in the eye of the beholder. I told him this paying "beholder" did not think they were beautiful and since I am paying, I should be happy. He has refused to do anymore then tell us to complain to the shipper. I just wanted everyone to know about my experience with Matlock Woodworks. We found his products on ebay, but we did not order a product on ebay, we went to his website. While he had a good rating, we sure aren't impressed.
