I took my car into Maurice's for a MINOR problem.
Turns out that 4 of my 6 fuel injectors were leaking, so the mechanic advised that I just replace all 6. Knowing a little about vehicles, I had asked if they could just replace the seals, and was told no. They ended up ordering rebuilt injectors; a week later, they arrived.
In between that time, while they still had my car, he called and informed me that the water pump was severely leaking. He asked if I noticed that i've had to put anti-freeze in it lately. I said, "No, never in the three years that i've had the car and just recently checked it".
The fuel injectors arrived and apparently were worse than the ones already on my car; even though they are pressure tested before they leave the factory. So he ended up ordering new ones for double the price.
A week and a half, of them having my car, he all of a sudden, once again calls and informs me, that the fuel pump is also part of problem, that my car has been having.
I thought it was a little strange that a week and a half later, he is now just telling me about the fuel pump being part of the problem too, not just the fuel injectors. At that point, I told him to put my car back together. $400 later and no fixes, I drove my car home.
The following week, I got my car into LJ's garage. Until that time, I ran around and got some of the parts that I "apparently" needed; a fuel pump and water pump. Having to add anti-freeze like crazy, ONLY since picking up my car from Maurice's.
Turns out that only one fuel injector needed to be replaced, not four (or all six, like they advised). The rest of the injectors, got new rubber seals. My water pump was leaking, and fuel pump couldn't have been working any better. James at LJ's FIXED my car in two days; and I only paid him $300 (that included the fuel injector, new seals and labor). Not like the $400 I had to pay Maurice to get my car back or the $3000 of what th!ey quoted me!
I got three quotes, when my car was at Maurice's. When I showed LJ's these quotes, they noticed that on the first quote, it actually stated that my fuel pump was working perfectly fine; the third one, stating that it needed to be replaced. How does that work??? It was their (Maurice's) own quotes.
It makes me sick, to think that Maurice's Auto Care would try to screw a single mother out of $3000. Not only me, but how many other people have they done that to!
They made it sound like my car was falling apart, even though it would only act up every once in awhile. I knew it wasn't a MAJOR dilemma like they made it to sound. There was no reason for them to have my car for that length of time; while not accomplishing anything. Chances are, they would have only replaced the one injector that would act up, yet charge me for all six. On top of it, they would have charged me $600, for a new fuel pump but not change it, since it was already working as good as it needed to be.
SO BEWARE OF MAURICE'S ON MILLAR AVE!
