Inferior Product
We purchased a Maytag Dishwasher "Legacy Series" "Quiet 300" with purchase price of 650.00. Six months after warranty expired the silverware basket was falling apart causing pieces to grind in component, the coating on dishware rack was falling off causing rust. Repeated attempts to have product serviced under the "good name" of Maytag, a company that should stand behind its name and supposed quality informed me that they would sell me a "repair kit" at half price IF I purchased it within 30 days. Letters all the way to top management produced the same run around results. I've informed Maytag that once this unit completely falls apart, I will remove it from my kitchen, purchase another non-maytag/whirlpool product and dump their unit on the front lawn of their manufacturing facility for all to see. Gee, they gonna call the cops?

Failed with parts discontinued
We purchased a Maytag built-in dishwasher model WU 1000 series 02.
After starting it the first time, I noticed the noisy operation coming from its bottom located drain pump. I called the Maytag Factory Service Department "under warranty" and they came in and pronounced the operation and the noise as "normal". Throughout its life the machine was very lightly used. I am a LEED Accredited Professional and am committed to minimizing water waste and detergent waste, among others. Naturally we used it when we had meetings and gatherings at home and we had to learn to accept the racket it was making as "normal". Finally, last week it did not drain anymore. The "drain Only" cycle produced just a grinding sound, followed by a pop. I was also quite concerned with the numerous reports I found on the WWW of Maytag Dishwashers catching on fire. These were all reports that inundated the web AFTER I had purchased this brand and mentioned electric heater failures coming in contact with water inside these Maytag dishwashers - a very unfavourable outcome that prompted Maytag to issue numerous recalls. Consequently, we decided to call in the Maytag Factory Service the second time. This time, we were told that it "always" had a "bad" pump assembly and that, since it was a "bad design", Maytag decided to discontinue it. Factory Service looked at it only after I gave them the Visa and the PIN and put through a $ 150 service charge. "You need a new Maytag dishwasher", I was told.
Summary: Consumer waste of time and money for useless service call...$150. Environmental fee and ground surface pollution with 150 lbs of metals, plastics and rubber at the purchase time of a new dishwasher...about $ 85. Letting my fellow consumers know what can likely happen upon the purchase of a Maytag dishwasher. PRICELESS!!

Exhorbitant cost of door spring link
Re: Maytag dishwasher model #DWU9906BAE. My door springs just popped off and now the door falls to the floor. I figured out how to fix it (it's a newer model) and was able to find the springs that had dropped to the floor. They are in perfect condition. The problem is the little plastic "links", which attach the springs to the hinges. They both broke and Maytag charges $4.75 per 1" "piece of plastic + $6.99 shipping. When I said that was robbery they gave me the number of a dealer close by. I called for the part and they charge $6.99/piece. What a scam! I'm going to try to make my own link!

A&E Service company (maytags repair vendor)
I purchased brand new Maytag dish drawers from ome Depot on August 11, 2009 and installed them on September 9, 2009. The bottom dish drawer did not drain the water. I had the drawer checked and manually drained and was told to try it again. Same result, it did not drain. I was told to complete a service call.
I travel a lot so I could not have anyone come out for 3 weeks as I was leaving town. I finally got a service appointment for MOnday October 5, 2009. I made flight arrangements so I could sit home and wait for 9 hours...they could only tell me "sometime between 8-5" only to have the service appointment cancelled the night before. I had to book a late flight getting into San Francisco very late so I could wait for this silly appointment. I got to my hotel at 1:14 am and had a 7 am breakfast meeting as well having to take a red eye flight back out the same day so I could be home WEdnesday morning for my rescheduled appointment because A&E cancelled Monday so he could have a 3 day weekend. I waited home again ALL day but had to leave for a for a few minutes to print some work contracts and was gone less than 15 minutes but knew that was fine because A&E was to call me 30 before they came to my home. I received a message at 2:41 that the technician had tried to call but received no answer. I checked my phone and had no missed calls nor messages except from A&E call center. I called them back within 3 minutes and explained that I would be home in less than 5 minutes and I had not received a call from the technician. They assured me that he would still be coming by my house. I arrived home exactly 6 minutes after the call and the technician had left note on my door stating that he was here at 2:44 pm and I had to call to reschedule.
Bottom Line...
1. HAD ME CHANGE MY FLIGHT SCHEDULE TO MEET HIS TIMELINE ADN THEN CANCELLED ON ME
2. The technician DID NOT CALL me 30 MINUTES PRIOR TO COMING OUT
3. LIED ABOUT CALLING ME
4. A&E provides NO SERVICE and caused me to rearrange my entire schedule
5. expected me to wait around for 18 hours (2 days wasted)
I asociate Maytag with A&E now and will not purchase another Maytag appliance because of them.

Broken Maytag dishwasher
I purchased a dishwasher from Home Depot in September '08 and it broke February '09. It was still under the 1 year warranty, so Maytag sent A&E to repair it. It took over 1 1/2 months, 5 different visits and they ordered parts twice before it was fixed. The washer was not draining the water, so they finally figured out it needed a new drain pump. A&E service techs are idiots. Maytag would not refund the money or send a replacement when we called to complain after the 4th visit from A&E. THey should stand behind their products and they don't!!

Broken rollers on the upper racck
The rollers which support the upper rack of my Maytag dishwasher broke and I was unable to obtain replacement parts for the rollers. After several hours talking to Maytag service representatives, the company sent an unrelated part. I contacted a local dealer who attempted to get the part through his supplier. He discovered that Maytag could not supply the individual roller; it was necessary to purchase the entire upper rack to replace the roller. The upper rack was $130 plus shipping.
My husband epoxied and redesigned the wheel attachment to operate the upper rack. I'm certainly disillusioned with the Maytag dishwasher. Previously I was annoyed with its noise level and its inability to clean dishes using dishwasher tab products. A seviceman explained to me that this type dishwasher should be used with a liquid dishwashing product and liquid rinse agent in order to clean dishes effectively. I will not purchase another Maytag and will definitely caution friends and colleagues about Maytag products.

Recall
I have been trying to have my dishwasher repaired on the fire safety recall for more than three months - I have been run around every bush - refereed in a great circle to their "Help" lines, promised call-backs dozens of times, promised next day resolution by people then ignored - three months with calls to them every 2-3 days is too much - is there a class action or something out there - some recourse against a company who, once the've sold the appliance has lost interest - The Maytag repairman must be turning in his grave

Noisy
I have Maytag Quiet Series 300 (MDB 5601AWW) dishwasher and purchased it in 2006. Within 1 year of using it, it started making an unusual noise. It is supposed to be the "quiet" model. The cycle will start out in the quiet mode, but then make a louder rumble and from then on make a loud rumbling noise on and off throughout the cycle. It cleans perfectly. However, we bought that model because of the quiet function, which is not working. Could you advice what can I to do to fix it?

Fire hazard
We purchased a Maytag dishwasher, purchased the top of the line metal tub etc. they never informed me of the potential to burn down my house. Yes it almost did. After the sparking incident I Found out about the recall.
I called the company they said mine was too new and not on the list.
I explained that the repair man that came was a retired whirlpool -Maytag repair man and it should not have sparked like it had and I was lucky that we were home and I cut the power.
Or it would have burn down the house.
Now after 3 weeks of trying to get them to do something finally a repairman of their choice came out. He said it was one of the worse he had seen the entire wire harness was fried.
And he would have Maytag-whirlpool send the appropriate parts to repair and prevent from happening again.
Why are they not informing the public and correcting the problem before they sell these dangerous products.
This leaking into the wiring hazard issue: has been going on for quite some time.
