Refrigerator fan quit working
We purchased the Maytag FDR in February 2006, just shy of two years old and the fan for the refrigerator has gone out. The freezer continues to work, but the fan which blows the cool air to the refrigerator is gone. We called the company and had an independent contractor come out to repair. Now we are finding out the part on back order at this point. The cost of replacement part with labor is a quarter of what we paid for the refrigerator. Meanwhile, our food is in the garage in the "yellow" beast that is about 20 years old (age based on the color) and never had any problems.....I wish I would have read this board before buying it. Poor quality from a manufacturer that claims their products are repair free and fixing surround sounds on the side to stay busy.

Questionable product quality and warranty
Maytag Product Quality and Extended Warranty Service
We were warned before we purchased the refrigerator not to buy it because it was a Maytag – this was from someone who had so much of a problem with theirs that the refrigerator itself was replaced two (2) times. But we did purchase it and because of their experience purchased the extended warranty.
Approximately six (6) weeks ago on a Saturday evening about 11:00 PM we realized the refrigerator portion of the unit was not working. I immediately called the 800 number for the extended warranty, and after waiting on the phone for 30 minutes finally hung up – never having spoken to anyone. The following morning (Sunday) I called about 8:00 AM and spoke to someone immediately, who took all of the information, and then proceeded to inform me that they would contact a repair Company in my area on the following Day, Monday. Monday morning, I received a call telling me that the service call had been referred to a company approximately 20 miles away.
I was called later by the repair company and informed that it would be the following day, Tuesday, before they would be able to make the service call.
So much for 24 hour extended warranty coverage!
The serviceman arrived on Tuesday as scheduled and after determining what the problem was (a small fan which circulates cold air from the freezer to the refrigeration section), called a local parts supplier to determine the availability of the part. The part was available, and much to his surprise and mine, there were 44 of the fans in stock. Both myself and the serviceman questioned why a product less than 2 years old would have that many replacement parts stocked locally. It is not a good omen when a single part is stocked in such volume for an item so new. the serviceman went and picked up two (2) of the fans – he rationalized he would probably need another in the near future, so he might as well have one in his truck.
The serviceman did his job, and did it well, but certainly the overall quality of the end product is questionable and the Maytag extended warranty did not respond in a timely manner.
