Well, I heard back from Maytag Customer service. Their advice is for me to contact a service technician. On the basis of everyone's comments here, I think I will save myself some time and money and just wait for the dishwasher to die completely. I am going to talk to the store that sold the dishwasher to us, and let them know how poorly Maytag is treating their customers.
Did someone suggest a lawsuit? Count me in, if it comes to fruition.
