I have had this new refrigerator since April 4, 2006 and noticed that it didn't maintain the correct cooling. On Sept. 30, 2007, I sent an e-mail for service and received a confirmation back that they would come out on Oct. 3, 2007 between 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Everything had defrosted in the freezer and had to be thrown out. My son came over and turned the refrigerator off and back on again and it started working. The technician came out anyway because I wanted the unit checked out. It cosed $127.63 for 45 mins for the technician to inform me that he couldn't verify the complaint. I ask if I could load the freezer up again and expect no problems he wording was "just purchase a few items" and that was the same answer the Maytag center sent back via e-mail. Did they know something I didn't?
On the 22nd of Oct. I again sent an e-mail for service because the ice cream had melted in the refrigerator. I was informed that service would be scheduled for AUGUST 22, 2007???? When I emptied the ice maker to prevent water going all over the floor again I must have bumped something that made the unit start working again. I informed Maytag that the unit was working and they canceled the AUGUST work order.
On 11/8/07 the unit went completely out. I had turned it on and off but it did nothing. Again all the frozen food had to be discarded. The technician came out on 11/12/07 (he was suppose to be here before 12:00 but showed up at 3:45 p.m. and left at 4:15p.m.) and informed me that they had been having problems with the compressor units in the refrigerator but that he couldn't replace it if it was working like it started doing back in October. He ordered a Whirlpool compressor and told me to call for service when it came in. I called for service on Wed. the 14th when the compressor unit was delivered and was told they couldn't be out here until Monday the 19th. I wanted the compressor installed prior to leaving for Thanksgiving vacation and agreed to the service on the 19th. A new Whirlpool compressor was installed and I returned yesterday the 24th and found a refrigerator that was not working again. I have once again sent an e-mail for service. I am at a loss of what to do. I can't live with a refrigerator that is 1 1/2 years old that keeps breaking down! Where do I go for help? When I complained to Maytag and ask for a refund of monies spent on food that had to be thrown out twice and on the service call that cost $127.63 for their compressor unit that is suppose to be covered under warranty they sent me a copy of their manual and stated that it was my responsibility to check the cooling of the unit and to transfer the frozen goods to an alternate cooling unit. I sent back an e-mail asking them what was their responsibility and where was I suppose to obtain this alternate cooling unit to transfer frozen food that was already defrosted but I haven't heard back from that e-mail. My husband purchased this refrigerator for my birthday prior to his death because he didn't want me to have any problems with our old refrigerator. He purchased it at the NASJRB BX/MART. He relied upon the brand name Maytag! Please help I haven't had a refrigerator since the end of September and have no idea where to turn for assistance. I have saved copies of all e-mails!
The repair technician came out on Tuesday the 27th and stated that the refrigerator can not be fixed and that the manufacture would call me within a couple of days and would deliver a new refrigerator. I called the manufacture today and they have informed me that the paperwork has been sent over to committee replacement (Product Review) and it is up to them IF they will replace the refrigerator or not and they would call within 48 hours. I ask if this means that I want get a call until Monday the 3rd of December and she said that's right. I ask her what it means they will determine IF they are going to replace the refrigerator or not and she said it is up to the Product review committee. I ask her if she understood that the refrigerator was still under warranty and she said she did but it was up to the committee. When the service technician left here on Tuesday he didn't give me a slip showing that the refrigerator was unrepairable because his printer was not working.
