I thought I was buying Ares Ultra software from the aresultra.com site. I have used a friend's Ares Ultra software before, and so I knew the look of the search window, etc. However, after I paid what was supposed to be $11.36 for one year for AresUltra, I ended up getting billed for three years--$35--by "MBDeatils.com."
I didn't at first realized I had been ripped off. When I clicked on the "link" in my email, I did not get the Ares Ultra I was familiar with. What I got instead was software called "Vuze." It does not look anything like the Ares Ultra I thought I was buying, and it was very hard to search for files. When I did find files there weren't very many results to choose from. However, I was willing to try. Unfortunately, although I carefully followed the directions in the video tutorial, I couldn't get a single file to download. Everytime I would try I would get a "fail" message.
Finally, in my purchase confirmation email it read that I could get "billing & technical support" by contacting
"Email:
[email protected]
Toll free: 1 877 843 8882"
I called the toll free number several times, and always got a different guy with a barely understandable Indian accent, all curiously named "Steve", on a bad phone connection. When I asked for tech support, "Steve" told me that the phone number was only for billing questions and that I had to email for tech support. So I emailed the address and immediately got back a "failed delivery" email which informed me that the address did not exist.
Not long after this, my credit card company emailed me alerting me that the purchase was possibly from a fraudulent site or company. I felt really dumb, and immediately called my credit card company to dispute the charge, and called "Steve" from MBDetails back to cancel the purchase with them. One way or the other I will not be charged, but others should be alerted that this is a scam company.
