OUT OF CONTROL FRANCHISE OWNER
On Sunday, June 14, 2009, my son returned home visibly shaken and crying. He remorsefully explained to his father and I that he and two (2) of his friends were at McDonald's on Broad River Road and Dutch Square Parkway. A schoolmate, which is also an employee of McDonald's, and my son were horseplaying in the establishment’s parking lot. During the horseplay my son threw a rock at the other young man. The rock bounced off the ground and accidentally hit the bottom left door glasspanel. The glasspanel shattered and broke.
My husband and I reprimanded our son for throwing the rock and immediately took him back to McDonalds to apologize, face the consequences and find out the cost. Upon arriving at McDonalds we were met by two (2) Richland County Sheriff’s Deputies. They commended us as parents for retuning with our son and they realized it was an accident. Our son spoke with the Deputies. He was still visibly shaken but also remorseful and embarrassed. As soon as we exited the car a gentleman, who was fixing the window, began speaking loudly. He stated, “Is this the damned genius that broke my window?” our son proceeded, with the Deputy, toward this gentleman. As our son apologized the gentleman never looked up or responded. This statement, as well as the remaining derogatory statements, were all made in the presence or within hearing distance of the Richland County Sherriff’s Deputies.
As the Deputies spoke with me and my husband the gentleman continued to barrage us with hostile insults. My husband stated to the gentleman that what he was saying was not necessary since we came to resolve this issue. Mr. Clark began stating that I was the type of mother who after her child shoots someone I’d still defend his wrongdoings. Up to this point I never said anything to the gentleman because I didn’t even know who he was. One of the Deputies identified him as the owner. I stated, “He may have had a bad day and I understand him being angry.” Mr. Clark then stated, “These people are nothing but niggers. These niggers make me sick.”
At this point I requested that the Deputies ask Mr. Clark for a business card and stated to the Deputy, “Based on his visible anger, hostility, profanity and derogatory remarks I will not personally call him. I’d request a Mediator or an Attorney communicate with Mr. Clark for quotes and payment information.” The Deputies felt that this would not be necessary and Mr. Clark would soon “cool down” and that we would be able to talk. This unfortunately did not happen. The situation only escalated. Mr. Clark continued to work or walk back and forth to his vehicle. As he passed us (Deputies, myself and my husband) he continued with the derogatory remarks, at one point chuckling and making a comment about the President. Mr. Clark stated, “I am sick and tired of these kids coming in here, but I’m sure that by this Friday or Saturday after the movies I’ll be able to handle the other two (2) boys because they’d be dumb enough to come back in here.”
Since this bombardment would not stop I again requested that I be allowed to complete an incident report stating the language that Mr. Clark was using was threatening and derogatory. The older Deputy refused stating, “Unfortunately, Mr. Clark can say whatever he wants. We can’t stop a person from speaking.”
We continued to wait for two (2) other Deputies to bring the required paperwork. When the paperwork was complete for our son the older Deputy went to speak with Mr. Clark. When the Deputy returned he requested my identification. I asked, “Why?” He stated that Mr. Clark wanted to complete a trespassing complaint against me and my husband. Now at-this-point, my husband nor I, had ever been asked to leave the property by Mr. Clark or the Deputies. The only reason we were on the property was at the request of the Deputies.
Mr. Clark was in his vehicle with the engine running. My husband and I and the Deputies were standing at the rear of the police car completing the paperwork when Mr. Clark got out of his truck, walked behind me and began stating, “You are damned ignorant. That’s why you’ll see your kid wind up in the casket.” I stated (without ever turning around or looking at him in his face), “Sir I am not saying anything to you so please do not speak to me.” Mr. Clark would not move and responded, “This is my property and I can do or say what I please.” My husband told him, “Do not to speak to my wife like that.” He began to mock my husband’s speech deficit (Aphasia) and continued to walk closer to him as if he were going to physically attack my husband; who is also an amputee. My husband cursed at him and he in return cursed my husband. My son got out of our car and stated, “You don’t curse my mother or father especially my mother.” Our son also brought to the Deputies attention the “casket” comment (which the Deputies heard); asked them and Mr. Clark if that wasn’t a threat.” I escorted my son to the vehicle and told him to get in and be quiet. He did. The older Deputy got in between my husband and Mr. Clark. Mr. Clark did not back down until the older Deputy raised his voice stating, “Benny, Benny that’s enough.” The Deputy escorted Mr. Clark to his vehicle and Mr. Clark sped off.
I am still very shaken up by the public verbal attack and lack of reasoning Mr. Clark exhibited. This incident occurred in the parking lot where patrons were utilizing the drive-through, customers and employees were inside peering out of the window. I am very concerned about the Trespassing complaint. My husband is a former City of Orangeburg Firefighter, Police Officer and State Corrections Officer. Our son is a rising Senior with no academic or disciplinary problems. We are law abiding citizens who acted with the intentions of bringing our son back to the scene, face the consequences and apologize. I do not encourage anyone to leave the scene of an accident but in this case based on Mr. Clark’s public display of rage, anger and profanity I shutter to think what may have happened if our son would have remained at the scene and encountered
Mr. Clark without his parents present.
This incident occurred in June. In July I wrote McDonald's Corporate office and still have not received a reply. I ask anyone who is in the Columbia area, goes to the Dutch Square movie theatre or any of the neighboring schools to think about which McDonald's they patronize or have their children/teens patronize. When an adult exhibits such out-of-control behavior and uses such "ugly" words; I wonder what he can tell his employees about customer service. It is also my understanding that law enforcement is very familiar with his temperament. Sounds like Mr. Clark is accustomed to being a bully and getting away with it and I guess McDonald's Corporation is focused on their profit margin not the behavior (or lack thereof) of who displays their name and sells their products.

Food is AWFUL
I dunno if there's a rule somewhere that says IF you go to McDonalds after 10 pm that you get old/cold food and fries that taste like they've been fried in OLD oil OR if that's the norm these days.
As far as I'm concerned I've given McDonalds the benefit of the doubt one too many times and I am DONE thinking this time will be the time the food will be hot and good.

SEXIST ADVERTISING
I have recently heard a radio ad for McDonald's. It's the Miss Spend and Mr. Save advertising. I cannot believe that McDonald's would not only create such a explicity sexist ad, but would actuallly produce and air this same sexist ad on the radio. Did someone within their advertising "camp" not think that the stereotype of women spending and men saving, oh, and let's not forget the little blurp at the end, where the female asks to borrow money from the male. Unbelievable. I will make sure I post this complaint on every available website, tweet, facebook, and complaint board that I can find.
Sincerely,
Christina Colby

Refusal To Give Refund
This is an email I sent to McDonalds a few days ago...after reading the wonderful experiences everyone else has been having at McDonalds I guess I won't be getting a refund. At least I am not alone and its not in any one part of the country.
I stopped at the location on the way to work as they are usually very fast and I thought I could get a good meal to eat on the way to work. When I got to the 2nd window the cashier asked me if I would pull forward as my order was not ready. I attempted to explain to her that I could not as I was on my way to work and I had to go. (Pulling forward and waiting is normally fine, but I would've been late to work if I had done so in this case.)
I asked for a refund to which she replied someone was making the sandwich I ordered.
How can you ask me to pull forward and then say the sandwich is being made?
Why could I not just get a refund? I work in food also and understand that things happen at times, but I also understand when a customer asks for a refund you give the customer a refund.
I did keep the tea that was supposed to come with the Mushroom Swiss Burger combo which I did not get...but I don't think your tea is worth the $6.15 I paid for some fries and a burger I did not get.
Why could I just not get a refund?
You don't have an all sales final sign up.
I did not even get a receipt so you will probably ignore this email anyways...I just wanted to let someone know about my experience and at least make an attempt to get a refund.

Awful place
Oh this MacDonald's restaurant is not on the highway so there should be no problem of food shortage but it had. The previous day I was coming from my friend's home as it is far way from my home I stopped at this Macdonald's restaurant to have something. Well, the lady told me that they have nothing to eat but some drink she could serve me. So I ask for juice and here come in a big glass of juice with bad taste.it was spoiled and shock for a customer that such a reputed organization keep spoiled drink. Well, I asked for other drinks but she didn't have anything so I end up with milk shake which was of same price and less in quantity. I will not stop at this branch until it is forced to stop.

GREAT SERVICE
I was in your store on August 24th and experience the best time that I have had at this store. A man name Maurice went beyond the call of duty to make sure that I was pleased with my visit. And this has not been the first time that I have been at this store but I know that because of the time that I had with this gentleman that I will be coming back alot more often. I just wanted to let you know this because I had spoken to his store manager and she informed me to let you know and she also said that he was a swing manager and I wish that there was alot more like him.

abusive staff
I used the drive through to get a quick order hamburger and fries. I paid then they told me to wait for the food to cook. They brought out the food. But I asked for a full fries instead of the half full box that they often try to pull. The employee stated that this was normal. So I asked for a manager -and she strutted off.
After 5 minutes, I got tired of waiting - so I went inside to complain. The employee was gabbing about my complaint to the other employees - but still did not notify the manager. I asked directly - "get me the manager please."
The manager came out - and when I asked "for a full box of fries" - the Manager (Andrea I believe) leaned over the counter and forcefully yanked my bag of food out of my hands - saying that they will not serve a customer like me. I asked a number of times for her to return my food - but the Manager refused.
As I proceeded to leave the store - she (the Manager) called me the "A**H***" word in front of about half dozen of the McDonalds employees.
Is this normal Mcdonalds guidelines for its Employees and its Managers - to curse vulgar words at its customers - and steal the food back from customers that it already sold to them ???

direspect to employees by management
a manager at the groton mcdonalds named dan has no respect for his employees. he yells at them in front customers. he has been caught groping the young girls that work there. people that work at that mcdonlds are intimitated by and do not want to work with him. he does not perform the duties of a manager. instead of getting the job done, he makes a bigger problem out a situation. he is not a respected employer of the mcdonalds establishment. something must be done. this has been an ongoing problem and nothing has been done about it. hopefully the time has come to do something about it. he should not be employed at mcdonalds any longer.

incapable staff
To whom it may concern:
I am a frequent maccas customer and expect what everyone else expects--fast food! On saturday 15th aug at 8:30pm my partner(Rod) and I went thru the drive-thru at the above mcdonalds outlet. We ordered a ceaser chicken wrap, a sweet chilli wrap, and a cheeseburger. when we arrived at the collect window we were told to wait in the waiting bay another car was in front of us a green xcel. A couple of mins past and a young girl brought out a bag for the green exel and they left meanwhile another car pulled up behind us they got there food straight after. About 5 mins later a young asian guy came over to our car, a yellow lancer, and asked i quote "Is there any reason you are sitting here". We are so shocked and explained what we had ordered and said this is quite ridiculous. They young man looked at us blankly and then walkd back inside. 2 min later another ethnic guy has come out to our car and again i quote"So u did order something, what is your order?" they had apparantly lost it! By this time as you can imagine we were both quite agitated Rod got our reciept and went inside to make sure they were getting it. He asked for sum chips to be thrown it coz of our wait. the ethnic guy(manager i think) has looked straight at him and said " You wont be getting any free chips mate!"
When we finally did get our meal our wraps were disgusting the chicken was overcooked there was hardly any fillings in there and they did not satisfy us. I was so disappointed in the service this guy in particular has really let the name of maccas down. I will not be going to this mcdonalds again i would rather go to KfC or Red Rooster which are close by!
Thankyou for taking the time to read this and i hope to recieve a phonecall and/or and apology letter containing some sort of compensation for our troubles.
Regards
Amy Overgaauw

Senselees Pricing Policies
I’m not eating at McDonalds anymore. There are a multitude of reasons why but the latest one involves a clueless manager and a fifteen cent charge for a pack of BBQ sauce. So why the beef over fifteen cents? I don’t think it is fair that I should be asked to pay fifteen cents to eat BBQ sauce with my fries even though I don’t use ketchup. Even if BBQ sauce costs more then ketchup, why can’t I have a credit towards the ketchup I am not using to pay for BBQ sauce? More importantly, why doesn’t McDonalds see the value of a lifetime customer versus making a one-time charge of fifteen cents? Just today McDonalds saved fifteen cents by not giving me the BBQ sauce requested but lost $8.34 because after arguing with the manager for more then five minutes about this senseless issue, I no longer wanted to eat there.
FYI, I believe the fifteen cent charge is stated as being for extra sauce. That would be extra in addition to that one got included in their McNuggets. Since I did not have McNuggets should I have to pay for the extra sauce? The short answer is no if you want to keep me as a customer.
Please note the policy seems to be inconsistent even among managers at this store. The manager that is responsible for losing my business is NICKI AZRAGOZA, Jeffersonville, Indiana. The phone number is 812.288.4350
