After years of researching this procedure (10 to be exact) I decided a few years ago that MHR was the best way to go for me. The only other company that came close to the're knowledge and experience was Bosley. After a very poor consultation with Bosley where I was rushed in and out and felt that they just wanted my money, the final decision was easy. I'd like to say all this happened about 8 years ago which brings me to the present.
I moved to Florida from NY and the MHR main location is just around the corner from where I live. After a few years of working and, more research, I had a consultation with Dan T at the Maitland office. I actually had a very good experience with him and the office in gereral. After a meeting with the surgeon I was ready to go. The only thing holding me back was the cost. I didn't get approved for the care credit which they use so, I needed some time to come up with the money. After about 2 months I emailed Dan T and asked him if they had a different financing plan. He informed me that they had started a "in-house" type program. I kind of wondered why he hadn't contacted me about this. What came after this answered that question as most of my emails and just about all my calls were not returned.
I applyed for the credit and was approved. I was greatly excited to have this done after so many years. I just needed to find time off from work to have it done. It took just over three months to find a day that worked. I was told that I needed to fill out another credit form since the previous one was only good for three months. This is where the communication really started to break down. It took many left messages and emails to not only get my deposit taken care of but, to get the new paperwork sent to me to fill out. I finally got Danielle who apparently handles this, to follow up with me. I told her if there was anything else needed to let me know. This was, to this day, the last contact I had with her. With about a week before my procedure I really felt like I needed to have some communication from MHR as to what to expect and maybe a checklist for my preperation. This is something I've seen throughout my research. It took another 2 emails to Dan and numerous calls to Danielle. Dan finally responded with a checklist and he told me someone from the office would be in touch.
This is where things went from "Poor Communication" to just ridiculous. The person who contacted me had no idea what was going on. I needed confirmation on how much I needed to bring for the remaining down payment. Keep in mind that she contacted me the day before my procedure. I knew the amount so, I just needed her to confirm it. She then told me that Danielle didn't tell her anything and that she was in Boca. Not sure how that is an excuse for not doing your job! She told me she would get to me and I told her I needed to know soon so that I could get to the bank to get a money order. Three hours later I got a call from Dan who quickly passed the blame to Danielle. Then made the same excuse "she's in Boca", whatever that means. I'm going to take it as "she didn't do her job". Dan told me that the finance company was raising my down payment from $3500 to $5000. The difference in money really wasn't the main problem. It was that I was being told less than a day before the procedure. Match that with Dan's attitude of blaming me for taking too long to decide when I was having the procedure and I found myself feeling like I was dealing with a used car salesman. I thought that if someone was buying a car and the day before they went to pick it up the salesperson called and said "sorry, you actually need another $1500 to pick it up", how long do you think that company would be in business?
This is kind of a long story and doesn't come close filling in how many emails and calls went unanswered. I feel the need to also talk about Dan more. After informing me about the increase in the down payment he did listen to my complaints regarding the communication issue. Not only did he pass the blame onto me, he then told me that his boss would be angry because he didn't fill the surgery time alloted for me. Are you kidding me?! If this company had any kind of professional communication lines he wouldn't have to fill it. I was all ready to go. So, it would seem that he thinks a problem causes by his (and others) ineptitude should be blamed on the clients he is paid to service. Throughout this process, when I did get a phone call, Dan kept saying that MHR was being bought by Bosley. My suggestion to the Bosley people, fire at least Dan and Danielle. I've been in charge of managers and teams in the service industry for my whole life. These two rank up there with the worst I've ever seen. Danielle just blows off getting loan paperwork done and Dan, well his attitude not only is terrible but, he doesn't have the skills needed to balance multiple clients and be able to communicate with them. Here's a bit of advice in case he gets to read this. When someone is getting ready to have a surgical procedure and they call or email you with a question, CALL THEM BACK!
I would avoid this location at all costs. Not sure if it will change when Bosley takes over in June. If these two employees are still there I would doubt anyone could have a good experience. Dan also told me that Dr. Barusco is leaving who is one of the best surgeons. Maybe he knows more than I do. Save your money and go somewhere else.
