How can we put a stop to an act of greediness in the form of “Non-compete & Non-disclosure Policy”?

I had the whole week to reflect on it. The term for this policy in Medicall Philippines, Inc. contract is 6 months after resigning. Lawyers would say—why would you sign the contract if you don’t want to be bound by it? – yet, my inner self told me that if I don’t sign it, I will not have food on my table since other BPOs have the same policy (the term just differs).

But thinking rationally, why would a call center company need to bind a call center agent (CCA) for such period of time when the training underwent for the job doesn’t even equal half of 6-months’ salary of the agent? Remember that the pilots of PAL are bound for 6-months, but that is because the training costs millions.

I would agree that a 1 month period for BPOs is reasonable, but a 6-month term—don’t you think it is greediness that companies would still pursue “Non-compete & Non-disclosure Policy” and deny you and your family food for 6 months?

You’d probably say—You shouldn’t sign such contract? The company would say -- Filipinos do not have much choice since the government cannot give more work opportunities other than BPOs, so why not exploit! And I’d say— Are you not bothered by your greediness? Where is your conscience?
