US Bank Imposed anual fee to my IRA account
US National Bank, in a surprise mode, started imposing maintenance fee to my IRA account. They have sent only a brief letter stating include the dollar amount or the amount will be automaticaly deducted from the funds and thanked me for doing business with them. First, the amount of the fee is greater than the earned anual interest. Second, the letter does not provide what period this fee belongs to (when this fiscal year started and when it ends), third there was no previous letter to warn that there is a change in terms. forth, the option of opting out if I did not like the new term has a hefty penalty and fees. Otherwise, they have my IRA hostaged and noone knows what other surprise move they may take later since I do not have a fair option to stop business with them. I went to the bank today, they just read an internal memo to me (said can not give me a print) the this trend started in May 2011 and I must have 2 prior letter regarding this change from US Bank. i have not received ANY letter from US Bank, I said to the Bank manager that the only letter that I have is the one that talks about " I pay the fee". The disclosure behinde the original CD certification does not indicate any fee associated with the said account. But US Bank maintained that US Bank reserves the right to change the terms at any time. Which again good for them not for me, but I must be given a fair chance to close my account if I don't agree with the new terms. I cannot close the IRA account because then they impose multiple fees and penalty to it so it makes it difficult for me to protect my retirement savings. Another words goverment has left this big crooks hands free to steal money from people's retirment saving. so what should people do. This is a very unprecidented trend and very dangerous trend to people's retirement securities if we are left without a fair option apt out.
