Men's Wearhouse Reviews

poor alterations
i purchased 2 suits from men's wearhouse, asking for flat pants i was told that i need 1 pleat pants. from the beginning they did not look right, but I was assured the alterations would have them looking great.WRONG, I have never seen such a poor job of altering pants. this suit was for my daughter's wedding and iI was so embarrased I did not even take my jacket off the entire time, since them I went to a seamstress with the trousers who said only the waist was taken in, nothing else, thank God she is able to fix them somewhat, but I paid Men's weahouse for alterations ove $100.00 for what, NOTHING. I would never recommend anyone to buy any suit here and certainly no alter it, go to J.C. Penny or Kohl's and buy off the rack, you'll get a better suit, I DO plan on telling everyone I know of this bad experience and to steer clear of this store. JOE CHASE

Did their best to ruin my wedding
I was married back in June of 2010, but just discovered this website, so I'm only complaining now. Men's Wearhouse was, without a doubt, the worst customer service experience I have ever had. I am jaw-dropped that they have the chutzpah to keep their slogan as "You'll like the way you look, I guarantee it." But let's start from the beginning.

I was ordering my tuxedo and my six groomsmen. Though there were other tuxedo shops in our area, we chose Men's Wearhouse because my best man was coming from a different state, and we wanted to be sure that he could be sized properly. When I went in to get sized, they only took measure of my arm and chest. They asked me what pants size I wore, but didn't measure inseam or anything of the sort. The so-called wedding specialist knew virtually nothing about what they had to offer. As a matter of fact, her only skill seemed to be opening a book. Needless to say, the colors in the book didn't really match the samples they had on site, so we had to change our colors last minute. We ordered the second tier of tuxedo, two wing collared shirts each (so we didn't sweat through), European style ties, vests, shoes, and cuff-links.

Flash forward a couple of months until three days before the wedding. Me, my best man, and two of my groomsmen went to the store to pick up our suits. The first thing we noticed was that the ties were sown into knot, and had a clasp on the side. Since we got the wing collars, the clasp was glaringly obvious, sitting on the left-front of the collar area. When I complained about this, the staff tried to claim that this was my fault for choosing wing collars with European ties. At first, I argued that they hadn't told me that those shirts wouldn't belong with those ties, but upon second thought, I went to the book that the woman showed me, and lo and behold, there were multiple pictures of men wearing European ties with wing collar shirts. Many of them showed the left side of the collar, and there were no clasps to be seen.

Needless to say, if this were the only problem, I wouldn't be writing here. As we continued to try on our suits, we realized that all of the shirts were the wrong sizes. My best man's shirt was reminiscent of the Puffy Shirt from Seinfeld, while my other groomsman's shirt wouldn't even button. Again, when we complained about this, the staff tried to tell us that things were supposed to be that way, since we were "renting tuxedos" and thus shouldn't expect them to fit properly. As we got progressively angrier, we decided to talk to the manager of the store, who took a similar line as his staff, that we, the customers, were wrong for getting the wrong sized clothing. Finally, we managed to get them to send the suits back to the warehouse to get us clothes that fit.

Later, another of my groomsmen went to the shop, and got pants that were (I'm not kidding) ten sizes too big. He wears a size 36, and they gave him size 46. Their response was that he should just wear suspenders, which made him look like MC Hammer. Needless to say, he returned his suit as well.

Since it was so close to the wedding, we received the new suits the day before the wedding. When we opened the packages, we found that the shirts STILL DIDN'T FIT! In addition, they hadn't given us the extra shirts that we paid for, and even worse, some of the new shirts were wing collared and some were classic collared! One of my groomsmen literally couldn't fit into his shirt (which had the wrong collar anyway). Still, the staff at the store refused to accept that they had done anything wrong.

Now's when things got real. As I went into the dressing room to try on the tux (which didn't fit), the salesman began bad-mouthing me to my fiance! Hilariously, he did this right next to the dressing room, which had a slatted door, so I could hear everything he was saying! At that point, I lost my temper, and busted out of the dressing room to yell at him. He insisted that they had done their job right, despite all of the sizing problems. When I pointed out that they had given one of my groomsmen pants that were ten sizes too big, he argued that actually, that groomsman was wrong about his pants size, and actually wore a 38, not a 36. When I pointed out that they had gotten him size 46 pants, he pointed out that the size 46 reduces down to a 43. They still missed by 5 sizes! Not only that, but that groomsman had sent back the pants, but received literally the same pants in return! He had to go to my wedding in pants that were 10 sizes too big!

Oh, but this is not over yet! Ultimately, we had to find regular dress shirts for each of the groomsmen, so they could have shirts that fit. My vest barely covered my chest, and my groomsmen looked shabby. Throughout the entire experience, not a single staff member admitted that they had done anything less than a stellar job.

After the wedding, we were obviously furious. We contacted the staff there, demanding a refund for our suits. Considering their motto is that they guarantee you'll like the way you look, it was a bit surprising that they totally refused to give us refunds. Ultimately, the best we could get was $40 for each of the groomsmen (on a $120 rental), and nothing for me, the groom.

So, lets recap. All that Mens Wearhouse had to do was size us and send out to a giant warehouse for the suits. They failed miserably at this, providing us with clothing that didn't fit, and a horrible customer service experience. Not only that, they misrepresented themselves multiple times, be it the colors that didn't match their website, the ties that didn't match their catalogue, or their promise to guarantee your appearance.

Never, ever, ever, EVER go to this Mens Wearhouse. And to be fair, my best man got his sizings in Pittsburgh, so it seems to be a national problem.

Horrible customer service
Responding to an email sale flyer I ordered $300 worth of items on the Men's Wearhouse online site on Dec 8th. Having heard nothing a week later not even a confirmatory email, I called the company and was told the order was held up because one item was back ordered. Only at my insistence was it revealed that the remaining items would be sent only if available when ALL were available, i.e. the remaining items were in no way "on hold" and would likely rapidly become unavailable. The rep suggested therefore that I cancel the prior order and start over with only items actually available which she was able to confirm on the spot. And I was assured she would personally follow up on this order.

Another week went by and no email from Men's Wearhouse. I called again. Same story! Again a slightly modified order was placed and I was assured it would promptly be processed. Now 3 weeks from the original order and on my third call, I am advised that the last order was cancelled since no items are available.

I pointed out to the phone rep that the website shows ALL items available and I am told that the website and the warehouse don't always stay coordinated and that they are working on it. I did not reorder nor will I ever do business with a mail order company as fouled up as this one.

On reflection it is hard to know if the company is just disorganized, deceitful or dishonest or some combination thereof, but Men's Wearhouse caused an incredible waste of my time and turned a normally simple process into a terribly frustrating experience.

I would advise against shopping on line with Men's Wearhouse.

alterations
I purchased two suits from mens warehouse and had to wait several days for the only person capable of measuring.
When she measured, the cuffs are not as long as I like but I have a flatter pair of shoes so I can still wear them.
I purchased a second suit a few months later and the only person capable to measure for alterations wasn't available and was told they didn't know when she would be.
They then gave me the number to their tailor and was told I could take it to them myself.
I did and the quality of the tailoring was horrible.
Double creases on both trouser legs and a gathering of material on one inseam and both cuffs have material gathered.
None of the alterations were smooth and just look terrible.
I contacted Men's warehouse customer service only to get the runaround.
I said I want to return the suit according to their policy and they will not honer it.
In the commercials the owner George says "Your going to like the way you look, I guarantee it".
Well, I don't, and he didn't.

Tricky BAD service
This is my 2nd bad experience with MW (and the last one, for sure). I needed to rent a tuxedo so I called 4 different to check on prices and availability. Average $80, all had availability. Called MW they offered "from 59 + 15 (shoes), and also available", so I went there because it was the nearest.
Once in the store, the attendant tells me that there's an extra $20 "rush fee" (never said so over the phone). I told him that everywhere the same tuxedos were at $80, so I wouldn't pay more. He spent a few minutes on his calculator and compute and told me it was ok. That he could take out the $20. So with taxes, the amount would be $89. Fine for me.
After we spent about 20 more minutes trying the tux, measurements, etc...I was told that there was a HUMAN ERROR, and that the real amount to be paid was $119!!!
Total time lost: about 45 mins + driving time.
After that I went to another shop in Coral Gables where I was treated AS A CUSTOMER! and paid was what offered, $80 for a much nicer tux.
NEVER WILL GO TO MW AGAIN!

Did not care that they practically ruined my wedding day
My husband and I chose to use Men's Wearhouse for our tuxedo rentals for our 11/17/07 wedding. My husband had experienced a problem with Men's Wearhouse in the past (a tuxedo for a wedding he was in in 10/06 came in in the wrong size and the children working at the store didn't know how to fix it - he was back and forth to the store 5 times during his friends wedding weekend) but unfortunately for us, Mens Wearhouse has a monopoly on the tux business in our area. This time we chose to go to a different location (Exton Mall in Exton, PA) so as to avoid future problems. Upon reserving our tuxes, my husband expressed his concerns about picking up the tux the day before the wedding, given his past experiences. He said he wanted to pick it up a week in advance as this was his wedding day and he wanted things to be as close to perfect as possible. We were told that he could not pick the tux up anymore than 1 day in advance and we were assured that there would be no problems - that everything would be exactly as ordered. We picked the tux up on 11/16 - the day before the wedding. My husband went in the dressing room and tried it on. It was then that we noticed that the wrong tie - a tie that didnt even MATCH his vest - had been ordered. Despite having the correct order number (my husband kept his recpiet as we were anticipating problems), mens wearhouse ordered an incorrect tie. And not just for my husband but for all 10 men in the bridal party. At this juncture- a day before the wedding - all 10 men had already retrieved their tuxes, in 3 different states and all 10 men had been given the wrong tie. We were told to come back in the morning. Meanwhile, in another Men's Wearhouse (located in NJ) our best man was having a similar situation with his tux having been ordered incorrectly. His tux came in in an inalterably large size. He could not wear the tux. He was told to stay put and that the correct tux would arrive in the morning. The best man was due to come into town, to West Chester, that night but could not because he had no tux. Thus, he missed part of our wedding day festivities. The best man - the grooms brother - was stranded and the day before our wedding, had no tux. Low and behold, morning came and the store did not pull through. My husband, the groom, had to call around from store to to store to try and find a tux for his brother. Luckily, my husbands hard work prevailed and a tux was located. Meanwhile, my Godfather (who was walking me down the isle) was experiencing problems with the Mens Wearhouse in Christiana Mall in Delaware. His shirt was ordered in a petite (incorrectly) and the sleeves were too short. He too was promised that a correct shirt would be in the following day and he too had to run back and forth to the mall during wedding weekend. The day of our wedding while my husband was putting on his grooms' tux, he noticed that there were no buttons on the shirt sleeves. He called the store and was told that this was not a big deal. My husband had to staple his shirt together on our wedding day. He could not remove his jacket all night and he could not lift his arms in pictures. It was also the morning of the wedding when the men realized that half of them were given their pocket handkerchiefs while the other half were not. The men were given no choice but to not wear the handkerchiefs. It was quite obvious that a portion of the ensamble was missing. Meanwhile, my father in law, also in nj, was dressing for the wedding when he realized that his tux had been shreded. Men's wearhouse actually gave him a tux that - in his words - "looked like it had been put through a blender." My husband and his groomsmen were put through days worth of aggrevation as a result of Mens Wearhouse - all throughout our wedding weekend.

To make matters worse, we were promised that the district manager - Frank someone or other - would be calling us to make amends. He never did. It took my husband and i calling Mens Wearhouse in Exton, me emailing them repeatedly, calling corporate and going to the exton store after our honeymoon to get so much of a phone call out of frank. After 20 minutes of arguing with the man, he agreed to give us a $100 gift certificate to Mens Wearhouse. As if after all of our aggrevation we ever wanted to set foot in a mens wearhouse ever again. My husband had to beg to get the best man - whose tux almost didnt make it - a refund. But frank finally agreed. Then he left for aruba without telling the NJ Mens Wearhouse about the promise he made us. The best man went into mens wearhouse to receive his refund and was told that they had no idea what he was talking about and - as frank was in aruba - his story could not be verified. Frank never did send the gift card either. Instead, the very nice woman (Alli) at corporate who i had been dealing with for weeks on end - sent us a note and a giftcard. Frank was never to be heard from again (despite us having left messages for him while he was enjoying his vacation in aruba.)

Mens Wearhouse should be taking pride in their opportunity to work with customers during the happiest days of their lives. Instead theyve optted to ruin these magical moments and ignore complaints such as mine. Do not make the same mistake as we did - take ur business for your special day elsewhere.
