I have always shopped at Menard's. I had a new house built this year because I lost my home to a fire last year. I had a porch and a deck built with treated lumber from Menard's. I have spent thousands of dollars on building supplies this year at Menard's. The treated lumber for the porch and deck is curling, cupping, twisting, shrinking, warping and splitting. It looks terrible, my old house was 100 years old and the porch looked 10x better than my new porch. I complainted to Menard's and they came and took pictures. We had to fill out an Installed Customer Complaint Form. Just got a letter from Menard's basically telling me that the wood is not defected.
"These are simply natural characteristics of wood - any wood, and even more so wood used outdoors exposed to elements, because its natural tendencies can be accelerated by heat and humidity. However, we certainly do not want you to be unhappy and, therefore, we are more than willing to offer an exchange for some boards or particular concern that you deem unworthy. However, labor is not covered under these circumstances as the natural tendencies of wood are beyond on control. Thank you for your understanding in this matter.
I will never purchase anything from a store that DOES NOT stand by their product. Menard's is out to make a quick buck and will steal it from you. Stick to you local lumber store - you will pay a little be more but they will sell you quality not quantity and they stand by their product. Menard's public relations and customer service is a JOKE. I used to work for a cooling tower company in customer service and our moto was, "the customer is always right", we made sure the customer was always happy.
