Can't give receipts for cash sales
BLACK FRIDAY, waited in line 1 hour in the cold patiently with another say several hundred more people. The doors opened, and about 50 people NOT patiently waiting their turn, mobbed the front doors ahead of everyone else. Words were exchanged, upset people, pushing, shoving, holloring! Totally unfair !! After that, i waited in line for a check out for another 1hr., to find out that the 10 items i had just bought for gifts couldn't get a gift receipt...All because of CASH SALE..I could have had them ring each item up seperately, and done cash sale with receipt, but otherwise no gift receipts!! unreal...get with the program Menards!

Unfair employee treatment
Menard's isn't the worst retailer to work for in the world, but as many of the other employee posters have stated, fair treatment by management is completely sub-par. Occasionally you'll find managers whose problem solving and approaches to keeping employees happy and working are pretty impressive (like my own), but I would say a good 75% could not even manage their own shoelaces to stay tied. My store personally is "catch-22 central" in what it expects from its employees. I'm talking about hours offered versus the hours that are actually given. We are expected to work our given shifts, not be late, and not to cut out early nor ask for it. If any of the above are violated, you can expect a verbal or written warning the next day, or at the very least shunned on by some management. At the same time, we expect to be able to work our offered shifts from start to finish, as the whole reason we have the job is to work and make money. This past week I was scheduled to work 23 hours - I worked 9. I am expected to be OK with it, but it's extremely upsetting. Therefore: Catch 22. The job isn't for fun - it is a needed paycheck to pay bills. When most of the part timers are in college, like myself, money is tight enough as it is. Sometimes even dept managers get sent home early, resulting in their not making the 40 hr/week requirement. I like working and I do my job well - much better than part timers in other depts that get more hours than me because someone else made a huge sale. While the pay/workload ratio is fantastic and totally on my side, it does not make up for a measly 9 hours a week. What they need to remember is that the hardest working employees are usually the happiest employees, and recently I have not been a happy employee.

Employment
UNETHICAL, GREEDY BEHAVIOR BY MANAGEMENT TEAM! Menards can be a good company to work for, good pay, fair benefits, but they also still offer a year end bonus. Stores get a bonus based on the sales for that store. This bonus is divided between the employees based on ranking (manager, assistant, team member) and length of time employeed. They need to still be employeed by December 15. If anyone is qualified for that bonus and leaves or is let go prior to that date, the store gets the same bonus amount, but it's distributed to the empolyees still there. Some managers will find any reason they can to let someone go right before this time so the "bonus pot" will be larger for their own benefit. Basically they just cheat some poor employee out of something they worked all year to receive. Someone I know (I will remain nameless) put in their two weeks notice because they were moving away to go to school. They were let go only a few days before the "Bonus Deadline". The initial reason was because they were 2 minutes late for work that day, they called in and explained they were running late because of the weather and it was approved. Then they changed the reason and said it was because of availability when they had the same availabilty approved for several months and it was never an issue... (nor were they even asked if they could put in more hours). This manager knew the employee was moving away to continue their education and was let go right before the bonus cut off time. What does this say to young people, starting out into the working world. How cruel is it to cheat soomeone out of a bonus, someone that is going away to school, on their own. Did this manager ever go to college? Forget what it's like to be in college, working, paying for their own rent, utilities just living pay check to pay check. That measly $500 bonues distributed amongst several employees is nothing compared to how far it would go for someone going out on their own for the first time.

Sells cheap stuff
If you buy anything that says its made for Menards (look at the back label) its going to break or not work! Trust me I purchased tools/paint/lights and they all broke or was the worst product I've seen, spent more money buy trying to save a buck! Home depot will meet and beat there prices so save the time and money (after returns and gas) go somewhere else. When your trying to get something fixed and its junk from the start, it *** you off when you have to drive all the way back to take it back. Just wasted my day and not too mention my money!!

Refused to product back
I purchase a snow blower from Menard's last evening. I spent $1, 005.42 fo0r the Brute 13.5 X 29 electric start. I even paid $ 39.95 for delivery of the terrible product and the delivery guy actually didn't even know how to get it out of the truck, my brother and I had to unload it.
I pulled up to my garage, put gas in it and tried to start the snow blower, it would not start. We tried it three times to no evail. We checked the oil, spark plug and all connections and this snow blower just would not turn over and it was approximately 15 minutews old. (Brand New)
I called Menard's in Oakdale, Minnesota I spoke to some one that stated he was the Manager, I explained the situation with the product I just purchased and explained to him, I need someone to come back to my home and pick this product up, I will not pay over $1000 for a proiduct that dopesn't work!! The *** so-called manager asked me, did you make sure to put fuel in the snow blower? I said, of course I did because I would be willing to bet it would not start with out it. Again, the *** manager then stated this, we'll seeing you put fuel in the product we can not take it back becasue it's now used.. I said, that's incorrect because this item will not start, I've had it (15) minutes and I would also bet your delivery drive has not even returned back to your storer yet from his trip to my home 10 miles away? The manager said, you're correct, . he's not back yet buyt seeing you have put fuel in the snow blower to start it for the first time, regardless of the fact it will not start, it's yours and we will not take it back. The store manager then hung up on me!!
Nice service from a retail store thast steals over $1000 from customers, refuses to try and make some sort of an accomidation to the customer and then hangs up the telephone because he's both to ignorant and unqualified to answer simple questions.
I will NEVER buy as much as a cotter pin from Menard's ever in my life, what a joke of a retailer.

Don't stand behind their products
Menards sells low quality merchandise. So when something breaks-and it will-they claim the item is "not in our system"I have seen lately how the stores attitude has been screw the customer.I just cut up my menards charge card so this is one customer who's had enough.

Military Discount
Menards will price match any discount from Lowes and Home Depot except 10% military discount. They claim they will match the discount when it is advertised, but since their competitors offer it year round, they don't advertise it. Especially in a time of war it is nice to see that Menards does not support the troops and their families that sacrifice to protect our freedom, don't shop there.

Menards and Designer Image Vinyl Lock floor problem-$4000 plus
It has been an on going nightmare for more than a year.
The product was purchased from Menard's in Long Grove.
It was installed by professional installers both times and both times failed.
It has a "LifeTime Warranty" for residential use. Not so, it seems.
First time it failed (25% seam defects)we were able to get a product exchange but had to pay for removal and replacement labor.
We used a specific installer recommended by the manufacturer.
Second install failed worst than first install(>40% seam defects).
Second time it failed we have been ignored by both Menard's and Vinyl Lock.
We have extensive records.
Both installers are available for interviews and are candid in their comments.
Both worked extensively with Vinyl Lock personnel to insure correct installation.
We have a made a video of the ongoing product defect issue.
I have forwarded the link to the 27MB video.
It is available at:

not being handicapped accesable
Menards is not handicapped accessible, I told the cashier that and he said" you could have someone push your shopping cart" Now how is that handicapped accessible if the disabled person needs to walk with the person that is pushing the cart. I will no longer shop at Menards but will go to Lowes where they have amigos/motorized carts for customers to use.

Don't wait your money back, you will get a voucher
I purchased an air conditioner from menards ( soleus ghee 6000 btu unit) the energy tag stated usage of 50.00 a year .
I used it for a couple months which increased my electric usage by 80.00 a month .
So according to my receipt, and menards I had 90 days to return for full refund then after that period I would recieve a voucher.
So I returned it before the time expired and they refused to take it off my charge card, but only would give a store voucher, even tho your receipt says they will refund, Dont believe it.
I faxed thier corp office with a complaint, with no answer so my charge card agreed to remove it from my charge card, (capital one )which I am thankful . so if you have a problem with returning something check with your charge card co, an see if they will remove it off your card . Luckily I used capital one :)and got a full refund, I still have the voucher but menards can have it back, , I will never purchase anything as a large appliance there again.
