Awful experience
I got a *** eater from menards took it home and strated it and ran fine. went to use it a few weeks later and it ran for 15 min's thenm shut down. took it back to the store and manager told me that no returns after you put gas in it. How do you know if it works until you put gas in it? this is there policy, no return or refund. i took it to a repair center had it fixed this time it ran 2 mins started rope jammed and shut down. I called the weedeater manufacture and they were very nice. told me if i get a letter from repair center saying it was not repairable they would refund or exchange the machine. Got the letter took it back to Menards and they gave me more crap about it and after talking to several managers i got my money returned to me. this took almost a month to deal with the prossess. i purchased a *** eater from the repair shop so i could get the job done. why should i have to deal with rude managers from Menards. i now go to Home depot they seem nicer over all. tips! buy where they will suport the product.

Terrible experience
Ask why store didn't have motorized carts for handicapped customers.was told it was because of insurance. can not shop there because i can not walk long distance if you had carts i would shop longer and spend more money . so you lose my business and others i am sure. the reason for not having carts is not because of insurance it is not a sufficient reason it is discriminating against the handicap. Lowe's have them so i take the bulk of my needs to their store i like your prices but it is a inconvenience to shop in your store.

Store Manager --BRUCE
We ordered windows from the Menards store located on Clybourn (store # 3092 ). When we ordered these windows we were told they are standard size windows and if we could not use them the store would put them back in stock and it would cost us a re-stocking fee and we could only get in house credit. Which was o.k with us because we have 3 apartment buildings and are always having to buy large items . We are less than 5 minutes from Home Depot and we always go to this Menards. Once the windows arrived we could not get a permit to put these windows in. We went back to the service desk and showed them the paper work for these windows and ask if we could return them. We were told as long as they were in the original packages and not damaged. So we took the windows back and the manager name Bruce thew a fit and told us he didn't care what we were told that HE was the boss and HE would NOT take them back. When we tried to tell him what we were told when we bought we windows and what the service desk had told us he repeated, "I HAVE THE FINAL SAY ON ANYTHING THAT GOES ON IN THIS STORE AND I WILL NOT TAKE THESE BACK." He was very, very rude and when we told him we buy thousands of dollars of items from that store he told us he could care less if we buy from that store or not because he was the boss and what he had to say was final and walked away. We have talked to several of the sales help in that store just to see how he treats the employees and its a sad place to work and not even one person could say anything good about him. We just ask what kind of person this Bruce was and it was always the same. They would look around and all of them said he was very nasty to the help.
We spend at least 25 thousand dollars a year just keeping these building in good shape and that is not counting all the other items we have bought at this store.
If we have this kind of problem with "Mr. Attitude" I am sure other people have all so.
Thank you for your time.

No refunds on gas powerd tools if used
I bought a gas string trimmer from Menards during June. The first time I used it, the head got stuck. I took it back for an exchange. They said they cannot exchange or refund my money. I have to take the trimmer into an authorized service shop. I informed them that I bought this thing only a week ago and only used it once. They told me that I am stuck with it and all that can be done is try an fix it. They told me that a couple of months a go, Menards corporate office made this anti-consumer decision not to take back any gas powered equipment if it has been used. I asked the manager for their corporate office number. He gave me 715-876-6320. I called and one of the first things the IVR says is "..customer satisfaction is our number one goal..". After that, you will have no way to talk to anyone live about your return or complaint. They give you an address and a fax number to send in your complaints. I think Menards is going out of business and they are trying to save money anyway they can. And customer service has been hit hard. I got on their very simple website and again, no phone numbers. I found one place that you can send your questions to. I did send my complain to it. Just want to give everyone a heads up...One other thing I noticed, Menards receipts don't have store phone numbers. At least mine doesn't. curious...

Menards Sucks
So I ordered my siding from Menards. Pointed to the sample wall and told them I wanted that one - the Khaki Dutchlap siding. Two weeks later I picked it up and brought it home. Opened it the next day to find that it wasn't Dutchlep, it was the regular stuff. Went to the store to get it straightened out and was told they'd take it back, but with a 15% restocking fee. What the hell? This was their mistake, not mine, I didn't type the order up. The manager said I should have been able to decipher their order sheet and see that it didn't say Dutchlap before I paid for it.
I wrote letters to the store and to corporate but no response. They've just lost a customer whose been spending about $1200 a year there for the past 11 years. Many of their employees recognize me. But they'll never see me again. Lucky for me, I have a Home Depot about 2 miles away.

False Advertising
On 6.14.2009 Menards nationally advertised the Quick Set Pool (279-5519) for $16.96.
When I went to the store, there were flyers around stating that the "...wrong price was inadvertently inserted...the price should be..$44.88."

The store manager refused to sell the pool for the advertised price. He also refused to give me something in writing to the effect that he refused to sell it for the advertised price (though he did give me a copy of the flyer).

Then he sort of followed me out saying, "Everyone makes mistakes...I make them, you make them..." I told him I thought he was making a mistake right now, and that when I make a mistake, I have to pay for my mistake. He said, "I'm sure you do..."

Hey, here's an idea Menards...advertise "Everything in store FREE!" Then when customers show up, tell them the ad is a "...mistake. But since you've taken the time and energy to come to our store, how about buying something..."
No? Why not, because that would be FALSE ADVERTISING?

You think that Walmart will match any advertised price just because of their good nature?
No, they do it because retailers are LEGALLY bound to sell advertised items for the advertised price.

I submitted a claim to the FTC. All that and this over $30 difference.

Cutomer Service - Store Manager
Until resently, I have only had one complaint against the store-it's manager's attitude. He is simply boorish.

Over the last couple years I have had the occasion to be in the store just before closing time when an anouncement is screamed over the PA so abruptly and spoken so fast that no one in the store could possibly understand the majority of what is being said. Every 5 minutes the same garbled voice would shout at the customers to essentually get out of the store--and remember that most of what is being said is unintelligible due to the rappid fire pace of his yelling. I should note on the first occasion I thought it might be a new employee who was nervous or wasn't able to hear what they sounded like thru the PA, but this continued for a year or so.

Well after hearing this same type of announcement on a number of nights I finally asked an employee who was making the announcement. They said that it was the store manager. I then said you mean A store manager thinking she meant a department head, to which she said, no it was THE store manager and she meantioned his name. Well having managed a number businesses, I can tell you that I would have fired anyone that sounded like this repeatedly on the intercom, but it's the store manager who is doing it! Hopefully posting here this will attract someone's attention at head office and they'll give him lessons in intercom etiquette and speak to him about his attitude in general...

terrible lumber quality
If you're looking to save a few bucks buying lumber for your deck project from Menards, DON'T DO IT!!! You'll pay more later when you need to replace it all with quality lumber. I built a set of arbors and handrails last spring for my back deck using Menards lumber, and treated it all using the same stain I use for the rest of my decking. One year later, all of the deck boards used on the tops of the handrails have shrunk and twisted and all need to be replaced. One 4 foot deck board shrunk almost 2 inches. Two of the 4*4 support posts have bowed and cracked and now my arbor is crooked. Many of the 2*2 railing balusters are splitting.

I pay a little more going to my local small town lumberyard, but I've never had any issues with their lumber. Most of the lumber from the original arbors needs to be replaced already one year later, and I'll be getting it from my local lumberyard. I will NEVER purchase lumber from Menards ever again! You get what you pay for.

customer service
I am a general manager at a
large retail location and in fact used to be a manager at one of your
competitors so I know about guest service. I will tell you I receieved
none. I needed to return a chainsaw that did not work. I understand policy
is to take it to a repair service. I had to purchase another chainsaw from
another retailer because I was in need of one so badly. When I tried to
return the defective one I was told to get it repaired. I DO NOT need it
anymore I had to get another one. I do not understand how a company can
sell defective product and make it the customer's problem. I explained all
of this to the dept manager, he said it didn't matter I had to keep it and
get it repaired. I wanted to speak to the store manager. The man did not
even bother to leave his office, and called the dept manager and told him
no. I have never been made to feel more unimportant and insignificant in
any other retail environment. Perhaps, if I had been a male returning a
power tool my complaints would have been taken more seriously. In my
experience I know that exceptions can be made for guest satisfaction. I
have never let a guest leave my establishment angry and unsatisfied if I
could control it. I was not asking for anything but a return. I should not
have to get a product repaired because you sold it not able to work. I know
that manufacturers give credit for defective product. I know that it
happens and it is not the retailers fault. BUT I also KNOW that never ever
have I made that my GUESTS problem and not taken care of them. For a
company that screams the importance of customer service... your stores give
extremely poor examples of that. Can someone please explain how you know if a chainsaw works if you don't put gas in it?
