customer relations
My recent and last trip to our local Menards proved to be a lesson in patience as i don't believe i've ever been as mad in my entire life. This complaint deals with my treatment at their "yard"security check out. Having purchased 100 red edging blocks, and driving to the "yard" and loading them, when i returned to the guard shack Rachel informed me that these were the wrong color..i said" what do you mean"thinking she was kidding, she said these are red/black...I said what ever they'll work o.k...she informed me i'd have to do return on these and get a new invoice. I said" there the same price" she said it messes up the inventory count. Well i guess Rachel had a point there, but my issue was where she wanted me to go was on the other side of the store with a two year old in tow no less. And i must say i didn't enjoy the tone she took with me as she started to order me around like she busted me for grand larceny{ i.e color discernment)so i backed out of line, parked went through the store to get the new invoice.Told the clerk what had happened they gave me a new ticket went back to the yard, got back in line to see Rachel where upon she informed me this ticket wasn't vaild and was ordered again to park .She told me i'd have to go and get this ticket fixed.I told her i wasn't moving and get the manager. After 10 min someone told her it was o. k. to let me out, but i wanted to see the manager and went in and tracked him down on the other side of the store of course ... he nodded and said sorry and that was it.So we (two yr old in tow) walked across the store for the 4th time and 40 min in our sentence for having red/black and not red( and let me say there's not much difference) back to the truck back in the line to see Rachel who true to form counted the bricks for the 2nd time and announced we were FREE TO GO where by now i was more then just a little annoyed and wadded up the invoices and scored 2 points in the guard shack but just showed Rachel "one" for which later i regretted. Menards needs to remember you build business one customer at a time and thats how you lose your market shares to Lowes and Home Depot.

MasterCraft Doors
Purchased a special order door from Mendards in Oakdale MN. Paid a lic. contractor $400 to install it in Sept 2008. The door is so warped that the slightest breeze blows it open. It is now March 2009 and we still don't have any resolution on this problem. Menards insists we deal with the door manufacturer, MasterCraft. Truth is neither one of them gives a rats patuty about the problem. Do not, I repeat do not every buy anything special order from Mendards and never, ever, ever buy MasterCraft doors-- they are crap. Used to shop there all of the time, now we go elsewhere and suggest you do too! If you don't think they think their customers are worthless, google menardsonyoutube.

Wrong Price
Visited your 2102 East Springs Drive Madison, WI store on February 15, 2009 at around 5pm.
We went in for two specific items, a bath tub spigot and pre-made shelf. On the way from the plumbing dept. to the other corner of the store, we went by the pet section and saw these pet pillows marked $4.95 closeout. We picked the one off the top of the pile, there were 2-3 other pillows stacked in the bin marked $4.95. We continued to the corner of the store for the pre-made shelf and headed to the checkout.
At the ring up we noticed the pet pillow was ringing up as $36.
We complained to the floor manager that was not the price marked for the item.
She called back to a "Marc" and he said that was the correct price for the item SKU.
I then went back and now the bin that had the 2-3 other pet pillows was empty and stacked into the bin next to the now empty one. Marc pointed to the bin with the $36 price mark, now overflowing with pet pillows. I told Marc that the bin marked 4.95 had 2-3 other pet pillows when we picked the item. He had no answer.
Going back up front, the female floor manager ignored us until she got her boss, the asst. manager.
We were informed that it is not Menards responsibility to provide the correct price if we the consumers cannot decode the SKU on the item and the price tag.
In addition, he said Marc is the most honest person he knows and would not lie about a bin of pillows being moved in the time we picked one and walked through the store to the check out.
The Asst. Manager walked back with myself and my fiance. The empty bin was there and immediatly the Asst. Mngr took the 4.95 tag out of the sleeve.
Does Menards honor displayed prices?
If Items are going to jumbled around; someone looking for a certain color, fabric type, wouldn't individually tagged items with clearly marked price be more prodent?
I know customer satisfaction is important to Menards, and I am sorry to inform you that until you can prove better customer relations, I will no longer visit your stores and go to your competition in these tough economic times.

Inventory/Service
Never again will i walk into a Menards anywhere, they don't speak to you when enter the store. Product they say is in-stock ISN'T. Then they don't even try to get you to order it if you want it. This place is worthless. Home Depot and Lowes you have nothing to worry about. You have a shopper for life.

Why did I agree to work for such a place?
I am currently a cashier at Menards. I have never seen such poor customer service by my superiors. For example...
It was around 6:50 or so on a Sunday night (keep in mind Menards closes at 7 on Sundays) I was helping a guest in my line who wanted to special order something from plumbing, I told her the store closed in about 10 minutes and that maybe she should come back the next day, however, she lived about an hour away. I called the FE manager up to have her contact the Plumbing manager to help this guest.
So the plumbing manager came and she went back with him and left her cart in my aisle.
I had a very long line and I was the only cashier, so I wasn't paying attention to this lady's cart. Eventually she came back with her special order after this she asked where her cart was. Sympathetically I told her I didn't know where it was but I said that maybe my manager moved it.
So, I called my manager to my aisle and the guest calmly asked her if she had moved her cart.
My manager freaks out and says "Look lady I didn't touch your cart!" I look at her like what the heck are you thinking talking to a customer like that!
Well after my manager walked away we found her cart, and the guest told me that she would never be shopping at Menards again.
Every time I work I have at least 15 guests tell me that they will never shop at Menards again.
Everyone who works at Menards is generally always in a bad mood, and it *** because when I walk into a store I want to be greeted with a smile and a "how can I help you?" at Menards it is the TOTAL opposite!
I would recommend to anyone reading this to take there business elsewhere like Lowes or Home depot, hopefully they have better costumer service.
Whenever anyone asks me where I work I am ashamed to say that I work at Menards.
I am so happy that I have a job interview tomorrow so I can quit the sh!thole that they call a store.
Don't count on saving big money, I would recommend saving your time!

Poor customer service
In September 2008 I purchased a simple trouble light from a bin that stated that the products were $8 each. When I got the product home, I realized that I'd paid $11 for the light and the attached label indicated that the fixture had a 16 foot cord, but in reality the cord was more like 6 feet. I'd overpaid by $3 because the light had the wrong label attached to it.
While $3 is really no big deal, I needed to return to the store anyway so I brought the light back and explained that what was obviously an $8 lamp had been mislabeled as being $11. The cashier brought this to the attention of the manager who was about 20 feet few feet away, and instead coming over he simply shouted dismissively, "If that's the price that scans, then that's what the light costs." He also insisted that there was no way I could have gotten that light from the $8 bin, even though the mislabeled light was identical to the other $8 lights except for the label. The cashier ended up siding with me, but the manager kept treating me like I was an annoyance and that I didn't know what I was talking about.
In the end I got my $3 back, but the price was demeaning and dismissive treatment by the manager.

14 day return policy
Recently my family has purchased 10's of thousands of dollars remodeling our mothers home. those purchases were made in good faith. all the while thinking that if there were an issue, with a product we could take it back for a return and get a new one. However, in oct 2008 we purchased a stove, in dec 2008 we called menards stating that the hinges on the door would not closed. they refered us to the repair company and we called them, they came and fixed it, for a month, again called menards, they refered us again to the repair company, and this time when they came to repair it they said the first guy didn't put the hinges on right, two days later broken again, and we call menards. fed up we ask if we can return it, and the answer is NO returns don't happen after 14 days. they advised us that menards is not responsible for items sold from their store and that we would have to contact the repair company again. this time when we called we asked if we could return it and they said they only repair items and menards would have to ok the return. so again we call menards, so like a run around, it is. menards explained that they have contracted with the company to sell their items but after two weeks hold no other resposibility to the customer or the company. now we have to call the company to see if we can return it to them. oh what fun this is. while talking with menards i asked why the customer is not made aware of this arrangement. the answer, we don't have to. my question to everyone out there is, isn't this deceiption on the part of menards. my advise, go somewhere else, check out the return policy, and service company before your purchase. otherwise i might pass you this continuous circle we call junk service and even worse service.

False Advertising
"All Christmas Decor, Games & Toys 50% Off". This is advertised in the store and their flyer in the paper and the only disclaimer is "Off Menards Low Prices". Well it turns out that it's only off their low "regular" prices and not off sale prices. This could be construed as false advertising in itself, but on top of that, nearly all their Christmas stuff is already on sale which means when you are in the store, you look at a tag expecting to pay 50% less and in actuality, you're paying 50% off the regular price which in many cases is the same price as it's already marked. I used to be a hard core Home Depot shopper as the Menards stores used to be poorly laid out...in the past year, I've not once stepped into a Home Depot but I can guarantee that after this experience, I'll be going back to Home Depot and not Menards, not matter what their prices are.
