service
I recently shopped at our local Menards store and noticed now that you have to bag your own purchases. I listen to all their advertisements about great service and now this happens, whats next? You might as well be ringing up your own puchases!!! After shopping at this store and spending our money I feel this is the wrong approach to customer service.

people r rude
I work at a menards and cant believe the people we get. I work in the rec department and cant stand half the people i deal with. Ive been threatened, pushed, screamed at, cussed out, you name it. If people come to me and be a complete ass do you think im going to help you. We are understaffed and never have enough people working. People need to chill out and realize this. If someone has to wait an extra 5-10 minutes they freak out. I like my job, but hate the people that shop there. People wonder why they never get help, 90% of the people are complete assholes. Its not our fault if something comes in damaged or has not came it yet. People need to realize this and stop taking it out on the workers. Same goes for returns, its not the workers policy its the stores. Dont take it out on us, were just doing our jobs!

Awful place to work in
Menard's inc. is a HORRIBLE place to work the don't care about their guest or there team members they care about making money like the rest of America, so tell Menard's to stop ling in all there advertisements about caring about quality and service. They are full of s***, they force you to stay after they close and clean even when your schedule off at a time and tell you u cant leave until u finish. They wont let you take lunch unless u stay an extra half hour to make up for you taking a lunch. The owners of Menard's are piece of *** and need to learn how to help and take care of their employees Menard's inc. is a sweet shop of modern day. I hope Menard's goes out of business soon. and john and Larry Menard have to live on the street. Menard's *** and Larry and john r going to *** for their greed and how they treat people!

Terrible experience
I'm not writing about a bad purchase experience with Menards although I have some if you want them. I'm writing about my experience building a Menards. As a GC we purchase hundreds of thousands of dollars in materials from Menards and I would think that makes us a good customer but apparently there is no such thing with Menards. John Menard has created a company that specializes in walking all over anyone who stands in the way of a profit. I have never had such a hard time getting paid on any job before! We had the entire shell of the building up before they released a single dime! My excavator almost shut down the construction entrance with a his back-*** on the demand that he get paid. They used every excuse and lie to withhold payment. They flat out stole money from my contract and challenged me to try and sue them and their "office full of attorneys". I've never been so mistreated in my life. Maybe all big box stores are the same but for now I will take all my business to anyone but Menards. "Save Dirty Money at Menards" - God bless the little man.

Poor customer service
On 08/19/08 a customer of mine went to menards to return 4 slab doors, they were the wrong size. She is a mom with a 3 year old and a 6 month old. She walked into the store and asked for help to bring in the doors because of the two kids (her husband was working and she needed to exchange the doors today) the person at he customer service desk told her that they had nobody to help her unload, it was her responsibility. She pointed out that she had two infants, "sorry", so she struggled to bring in the doors to exchange, after picking out the new doors she asked if someone could help her load the newly purchased doors.
She was told no one available today to load merchandise. Oh it gets better, then she goes to the trim department to det quarter round molding, she is told by the sales person to bring in someone who knows what she wants???? What part of quarter round trim didn't he understand. She spent 3.5 hours there, well pissed off she left everything there and went to Lowe's across the street and was showered with customer service.
I called the local store after hearing her situation, to this date the store manager still hasn't called me or my customer about this.
Has this happened to anyone else as well, please let others know.

I’ve never realized
I never realized what a slip shot operation Menards is. I was always a big Menards fan until they built their new BIG Menards. I always felt like I was getting a good deal in the older smaller store; now I see that we the consumers are paying for the newer bigger store. The prices have definitely increased in the goods I used to buy regularly at the old store. Now, I am reading about how Menards is so bottom line money grubbing, not caring about hiring quality knowledgeable employees, not fair to their employees...it sickens me. I think I'll make a switch to the Home Depot.

I will not be back again
2 months ago I started a simple 12x20 deck project, to my concern about previous menards encounters my wife talked me into going back to purchase the Ultra deck Fusion decking and railing system. Needless to say I still am not done with the deck, for starters we special order the decking and can no do it over the phone with a credit card, so I have to drive 50 miles to pay for it. Second it was a delivery date of 7 days which turned into 21/2 weeks and then to top it off the railing system was wrong. Reordered and had to wait, by now my deck stringers are all twisted from drying out. Finally get to installing the hand railing and find out that I got F_cked again, they did not give me the correct handrail insert, I had to go to the web site myself and tell the dip s_it at the counter what I needed, Thanks Menards for all the Headache and wasted gas to and from, I WILL NOT BE BACK AGAIN.

Bad Customer Service
We were building a deck and decided to go to the store a week ahead of time to order the wood. The order was printed out on a piece of paper for the clerk to enter and she did so - we went to the front of the store and paid. We had scheduled delivery for the following Sunday. When they came to deliver the boards this huge truck comes and drops off 20 20ft boards - I looked at the list that my stepfather had made for us and clear as day it says 20 10ft boards. The clerk had typed it incorrectly and we didn't notice because we of course she entered it correctly. We proceeded to call the store and speak to Mr. Jensen the manager and he told us it was totally our fault that we should have noticed before we paid for the order and that if we wanted him to come get the boards we would have to pay another $60. Keep in mind we live about 10 blocks from the store. My stepfather ended up bringing his boat over and we had to load them into that and take them back to the store.
I decided to let the corporate office know that there is a huge lack of customer service at the store and explained the story to them and I got an email back saying they didn't want to lose me as a customer and provided me with the phone number of the manager - who I had already talked to and who told me that the mixup was entirely our fault. So I proceeded to email back asking what they expected me to do. Attached is the resulting email trail.
thank you for your response, but at this point I now feel that your message is a little hollow being that Mr. Jensen is the one who was rude and apparently didn't care a thing about customer service. Now you're suggesting I call him to discuss this again? Why would I do that when he was so disrespectful the last time we talked? It's become apparent to me that Menards really doesn't care about their customers experiences. I'm truly sorry to hear that because as I stated before, we had been loyal customers.
This is the response I received from the store -
Jaime,
I’m sorry, but it would be your responsibility to make sure the order was correct.
Thank you
Ray
And here is my final response -
RAY -
Obviously Menards knows nothing about Customer Service and cares very little for how they treat their customers. While I have stated that I take responsibility for not noticing the ERROR OF THE PERSON WHO ENTERED THE ORDER from a sheet of paper where it was quite clearly written out - I think the fact that the manager in no way would take any responsibility and work with us to get this taken care of is ridiculous. Instead he was going to charge us to come get the wood... what a joke. And what a joke your company and your customer service is. You just lost this customer and believe me, I will tell everyone that I ever talk to in this lifetime how horribly Menards treats it's customers. I will now go out of my way to Home Depot where they at least realize it's the customers that make their business possible.
The response I have received from the offices of this company is just further proof that they have no care for the customers that make their business possible.

customer service
At Menards for 1 1/2 hours with loaded cart. Had 3) 8' X 23" shelving boards that had a "11 X 4" sign with a price of $13.10 for knotty pine, next to these were oak veneers for $15.48. At the register they come up $15.48, call for a price check, the guy comes back "$15.48". I bring him to the sign & he grabs the 1 inch screw tag & said "Nopr, thats the wrong price, anybody could have put it there" despite "SOMEBODY" did put it there on the products sign, & who would question a $2 less price for pine veneer than oak. Too bad for me. I call for a manager to discuss his attitude. No one shows, I scan my card & try to pay for the higher price anyways. I walk to the service desk & back to the register 'Ginger' is talking to the buildings dept guy who now realized I was going to report him. I ask her if she is the manager, she wont answer me, "excuse me, I called for a manager, are you a manager?" She dissed me & said "I, m talking ti him". That did it. I turned to the girl & told her cancel the entire transaction. The manager was worse than the dope James. Her excuse was that she was trying to get the "story" from him first. I said that customer service starts with the customer who called for you not the guy who insulted the customer. After alot of rudeness from Ginger the useless manager, she said she would adjust the $2 per board price but I was done! Let them restock the entire order. Best part is you cant reach a regional manager for customer service, just an Eau Clare, Wi

Poor management
I work at the Clive store and have for the last four and a half years. I enjoy the work that I do, but the managment is horrible. I don't feel like I get any where when trying to go to a manager. Mike Goode is the type of manager that can't manage the store. He is a good person in general, but as far as problem solving, he can't. I feel like he puts alot off on me in my position. I make alot of final calls that I don't have the authority to. Dennis Johnson gets very angry, very shortly. I have seen that man cuss, scream and throw things in front of guest. Scott Jeffreys. Thats a hole different story. He is the type of manager that thinks he has the answers to everything but knows absolutely nothing. He is good at putting freight away but that is it. And last but not least Henry Eslinger. He is just as worthless as Scott. All of the managers know nothing about the front office, nothing about deliveries, cashiering, selling product, nothing...
