We heard an ad on the radio about the hundreds of cars they have available and how you get a $500 gas card if you come in the month of May to buy a car. We figured we would go take a look and see what they had to offer. After running our credit background, the owner, Allan Singer, told us he had many cars for us to choose from and said he was going to hand us off to his son, Adam. He also said we were in capable hands. He was so wrong. Firstly, Adam informed us that he had one car that would fit our needs. When we insisted on seeing others he said that banks were having a hard time with loans for older cars and this would be our best bet. We took it for a test drive and thought about it. I didn't like the deal they offered so I said no at first. They then "sweetened" it by taking a lower downpayment. So we thought about it and decided that maybe it would work. Secondly, we were told that we would have 45 days until our first car payment. Also a lie... we signed the paperwork for the car and then were told the first payment had to be made in 28 days. Thirdly, Adam gave us a 20 day plate that did not match the paperwork. I got pulled over for going 5 miles over the speed limit in a construction zone and the officer thought I had falsified the documents. I told him it was the dealer and he didn't fully believe me, but let me go with a warning. When I contacted the dealership they informed that "oh, sometimes that happens, the computer documents a different date than the handwritten one..."
Fourthly, when we asked about the gas card we were told that couldn't apply to us... I asked why? We took a $22, 000 loan on the car - what was the problem. We were told that it was because the dealership wasn't making money off the car!!! Fifthly, Adam never got back to us on any of the phone calls we made. Merchants is a very unprofessional, unbusinesslike and borderline crooked company. DON'T BUY A CAR FROM THEM - MY COMPLAINT ISN'T THE ONLY ONE I'VE HEARD ABOUT THEM.
