I am a young woman who just recently lost my younger brother who was covered under my funeral policy. When I went in to the Johannesburg Metropolitan branch to claim for the funeral, I was told that they will not pay out because my brother is covered as my child which he isn't. This was never explained to me when taking out the policy (which was done telephonically). Now, if the consultant who was assisting me on the phone could see that our birthdates were so close why did she proceed to put them down as my children knowing full well that they would not be covered?
I then submitted a dispute which I was told would take 1 week to investigate. Today, 12 days later I called them to follow up. I am disappointed to report that NOTHING has been done.
I have been paying my premiums diligently for over 2 years and now I am told that it was all in vain. This is unethical and I intend to take the matter further. I have many contacts in the media which I intend to fully utilise to see that justice is served.
