Convicted sex offender
A convicted sex offender who last week allegedly asked a Fairborn police officer where the “Little Miss Fairborn” pageant was so he could take pictures, served five years in prison for gross sexual imposition involving a child. Michael Lynn Light, 40, was arrested on two misdemeanor offenses after he scuffled with police while riding his bicycle during the Fairborn Block Party on July 3. Light posted 10 percent of a $1, 000 bond July 7 to get out of the Greene County Jail. He has pleaded not guilty to disorderly conduct and resisting arrest and has a court appearance July 20. According to a draft of the July 3 incident report, Fairborn police arrested Light about 8 p.m. after trying to question him about reports that he was riding his bike through a crowded, closed-off portion of East Main Street. After the arrest by Officers Steven Holcomb and Raymond Liebherr, information came from dispatch that Light was a registered sex offender. Officer Shaun Pettit told the other officers it was Light who asked him about the pageant shortly before the bike disturbance. The report states Fire Marshal Carl Day told Light to stop riding because it was dangerous to others. Light began cursing and stated that Day couldn’t tell him what to do because he was not a police officer. Day talked to the officers, who tried to speak with Light. Light avoided them while riding on and later walking with his bike. When they confronted Light, he pushed one officer, swore loudly at them and Day and said he was being harassed for no reason, the report said. He refused to be handcuffed when advised he was being arrested for disorderly conduct. Light, listed in the report as 6 feet 2 inches tall and 210 pounds, struggled before being handcuffed and charged with resisting arrest. Police said Light’s wife took possession of the bike. Light has had a history of legal problems. Fairborn police Sgt. Matt Ricketts said Centerville police arrested him in 1997 for raping a female child. He served five years in prison for gross sexual imposition and was released in 2002. In 2005, he was sentenced to 30 days in jail on a misdemeanor drug charge out of Fairborn. In 2008, Greene County Court records indicate Light had a civil stalking protection order filed against him. The Greene County Sheriff’s Office website lists him as a Tier II sex offender. According to the offender registry, Light has tattoos that include Pooh Bear, the Tasmanian Devil and a flaming skull with a pot leaf. Light is one of eight registered sex offenders living in an area near the Park Hills Shopping Center, which is a mile from Bethlehem Lutheran Elementary and 0.7 miles from Creative World of Child Care.
