Midas of Seven Hills, Ohio
I have a 1997 Ford Econoline van that needed a new muffler. I had previously replaced it at Midas of Seven Hills Ohio and it had a lifetime warranty. No problem, right??? WRONG! I was told on the phone that labor would be about $98 and a few bucks more for the tailpipe. So I made an appointment with the person who gave me the quote. I was told to bring my paperwork for the replacement muffler which I was able to locate. So once the van was put up on the rack, the real excitement began. I was told that first, I had a problem with both catalytic converters and that it would be $3200 to replace. This Ford has 2 converters. I promptly declined and said just replace from the muffler back. The service rep told me that I had to replace the connector pipe that connects the converters to the muffler. I told him that I just replaced that less than a year ago and it had a lifetime warranty. He said nobody has a lifetime warranty on pipes. I showed him my receipt from Auto Zone that clearly showed a limited lifetime warranty. I asked again that he quote from the muffler back. Much to my chagrin, the quote was $280 with $110 for the tailpipe and $130 in labor and the rest for clamps and taxes. I asked if that inclued the free muffler, and he said yes. I asked why he indicated the laobor was $98 on the phone and he said "It starts at $98 and goes from there. In your case, it is $130." Nice bait and switch. ----It gets better---read on---So I needed to get this done as I needed to use the van for a job the next day. I decided to go ahead with the repairs (and that was my second mistake--my first mistake was calling this Midas location). While I am sitting there, I have my laptop and I look up Midas on-line and find a coupon for $10 off $100, $20 off $200 or $30 off $300 worth of work. I took my laptop up to the rep and asked that he apply the coupon. He declined, saying that getting a free muffler was a coupon. I said no, that is warranty work. This should be honored. He said he would call his supervisor who also declined. I then called the customer relations number for Midas at 1-800-621-8545. The Customer Service Representive said that the location should honor the coupon. I informed the local representative who said he would have to call his supervisor back again. He did and only after threatening to leave, did he honor the coupon. So to top it all off, my bill was $253.00 for a tailpipe and muffler. Just for the heck of it, I called the Strongsville, Ohio Midas and asked what it would cost (out the door) for a tailpipe and muffler. The person said $280. I asked what it would cost if I had the muffler under warranty. He said, "take off $75." Then, they would honor the coupon. Bottom line is that I should have paid somewhere in the range of $195 rather than having to fight for the $253 from Seven Hills Midas. This location appears to mark-up the cost of parts and labor enough to cover any or all savings that I got from having a lifetime warranty on the muffler. Not to mention all the hassles, inaccurate part needs and bait and switch labor cost tactics.

Rudness From MIDAS Manager
There was not any courtesy from the MIDAS Manager from this store when you called to check on the warranty of a previous job done about six months ago. I went to another car center to get an oil change and was informed that the oil pan had to be changed because the oil plug would not seal properly. They could not make any oil change. I called the MIDAS Manager to see if he could give me an appointment to check on that oil pan thinking that I had bought that part from them with a warranty. He was very defensive and rude and gave a lecture about breaking something of my mother's. His behavior was childish and extremely rude and certainly not the proper customer service experience that I expect as a repeat MIDAS customer. I came with a serious problem this person and I was treated by him like if the last thing he wanted was my business, and that is what I am going to give to MIDAS. This employee needs to be disciplined and perhaps taught about manners and respect.

Midas Sucks
May 17, 2011
Midas SUCKS, Yuri (the manager) is a rude prick.
I went to Midas on Elk Ave. in Glendale, CA to get an oil change. Once I was there, they told me that I needed some new tires, which I knew because my front tires only had a little bit of tread left. They tried to sell me 4 tires but I knew better because my back tires still have plenty of tread. To make a long story short, I left and a couple of days later I noticed that I had some serious vibrating/shaking as soon as I hit about 65 MPH on the freeway. Knowing that I did not have this problem before and also knowing that this is a classic sign of incorrect balancing, I returned to Midas and spoke to the Manager, Yuri; at first he seemed nice and eager to take care of the problem. I took my car for a test drive with one of the mechanics and of course he tried to give me some B.S about the problem being my rotors or rear tires when clearly this was a balancing issue. When we got back to the shop, I insisted that they do the balancing again, which they did. I told Yuri that the machine they were using to balance tires needed to be calibrated but he insisted I was wrong and I left it at that. Sure enough, after I left, I noticed again the there was still vibrating/shaking coming from my front tires. So I went back again (second time going back). This is where it gets really bad; this Yuri jerk has the nerve to tell me that there is nothing that he can do. Even worse, he tells me outright that he thinks I had this issue before I even went there and that I am lying about it in order to hopefully get them to fix it. So of course I tell him how pissed off I am and pointed out that I never even went there to buy tires in the first place! So in order to show him I am right, I tell him to rotate my tires to see if the shaking persists. So after they do this, I drove around for a while and of course, there was no shaking. I ended up going to two different tire places and they both confirmed that the balancing on my new tires (that had been purchased from Midas) were off. After I went back to Midas to tell them about this, they ended up having to take my tires across the street to a different tire place to have them balanced. These guys should be embarrassed to even call themselves mechanics and Yuri is the worst Manager I have ever had to deal with. Even after wasting so much of my time and treating me like shit, he still refused to apologize. Needless to say, I told him exactly what I thought of him and left; the other lady who posted a comment about this guy on here was right... he is a shady individual and doesn't know a damn thing about cars or how to treat people. STAY AWAY FROM MIDAS!!!

Wheels
The day I had drove my car to Midas for new tires, I washed the car and cleaned the wheels by hand. After I picked it up I looked at the paint and the wheels. I found the lip of the wheel to have been freshly smashed or curbed. I wiped the flaky shards of rim away. It might not look like much but for $180 per wheel to replace, I would appreciate taking care of my car when they have it. What ever happened to being responsible for your actions and customer service?

RIP OFF! AND DOESN'T KNOW WHAT THEY'RE DOING
This company MIDAS Auto repair shop is COMPLETELY HORRIBLE!!!
I took my car for a oil change, and they told me that some work needs to be done on the break pads, so i told them to check the whole car to make sure that everything is ok besides the breaks, if they have to fix make sure they fix evreything together, then the sales person called after 2 hours and told me that evrything is ok except for the break issue and the oil change, in order to complete the work the price will be $480, after they fix the car 8 hours after they call me to pick up the car. When I went to pick up my car, i questioned the salesperson if everything was checked properly, he said everything is checked properly the car is in excellent condition there is no other problem and if there is anymore problems bring the car back. So, when i was starting the car it wasn't starting proper and the car was shaking, so i gave one day to observe, then i gave him a call and took the car back to their place, he then said that maybe the battery wasn't working that's the reason starter was giving problems so i asked him my battery and starter was working good till i gave my car to your place, suddenly why is it disturbing now? He told me to leave the car they need to check the car again and that he'll let me after an hour. He didn't call me till two hours, so i decided to call him back and he told me they're still trying to find out what's causing the dilemma, four hours gone, when i called back again the salesperson told me, the car had a lot of problems, he gave me an totally new huge estimate to fix the car. I was surprised to hear that, day before car didn't have any problem beside brakes, and day after 10 problem came out. I was very angry. So, manager came out to solve the problem, He was way worse then the sales person. He told me this is a totally new problem arrived in one day. And i have to fix it by today other wise it will be very dangerous. I was very upset took the car from their shop, took it to another shop and they told me something wasn't hook up proper that's why it was acting weird. I only paid $20 my car is perfecly ok. These people are a total rip off. Don't trust these people at all. Always take second opinion.

Failed to honor their work
My college-age daughter took her car to Midas in Fargo ND and had the front brakes and bearings replaced for over $700 not quite a year ago. Last October, she was having problems and took the car back to them. She was told that there was nothing wrong with the car.
This spring (before the one year warranty expired), she was having a lot of trouble with the car. She drove to the nearest mechanic, which was not Midas. He discovered that the front wheel bearing was destroyed, the brake rotor grooved beyond repair, and the brake pads where unserviceable. The mechanic would not allow the vehicle to leave the shop for there was fear that the wheel would fall off if driven.
My daughter called Midas in Fargo, ND and got the "You need to make an appointment" and "I can do anything until you bring me the car". Midas was informed that the car was not operable. Choosing safety over a few dollars, she chose to have the car repaired at the shop it was in and not use Midas. At no time did Midas offer any other solution other than "Bring us the car after you make an appointment".
Soon after the work was completed, she took the failed parts back to Midas in Fargo, ND. The supervisor asked why she didn't bring the car back. He was informed that the car was not safe to drive. He said she should have had it towed. She informed him that they had already spent $700 at Midas, $350 dollars at another shop, and didn't want a tow bill as well. The Midas manager stated that he would have paid the bill. My daughter then asked why he didn't bother to mention this earlier when she could have taken him up on his offer. He could not come up with a good reason. He also tried to tell her that the brake pads were still good and the rotor was still serviceable. He claimed he would only honor the warranty on the bearing and nothing else. My daughter has over $1, 000 in repair bills and he would only accept about $125 of the so called "warranty" that should have covered this issue.
The manager in the Fargo, ND is rude. He talks to women like they are *** and belittles them. Because of his behavior towards my daughter I addressed him myself. He could not come up with any satisfactory answers He comes up with solutions after it is too late to accept them. He uses cheap and substandard parts. He was asked to give us the name and number to his regional manager and he failed to do so. He was given every opportunity to make it right and he looked for a cheap way out. We are going to file a complaint with his regional supervisor and we are filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau.
Do Not Use Midas in Fargo, ND!!!

Scare and attempt to sell repair services
I usually have my oil changes for both of our cars done by a Lube Stop place close-by. Usually takes 15-20 minutes, never had any problems. Now, I got one of those MIDAS-coupons for oil change, tire rotation, inspection etc. for $19. I went there, sat in their waiting room for over an hour and a half, finally, one of their guys comes out and asks in a weird way "Who did your last oil change? They overtightened the drain plug, it's all stripped, we can't get it off except by forcing it, but the thread might come out, and then, you oil pan is damaged, your car will be dead, it takes 45 days to get a new pan" blabla. They told me if I give them green light, they would try, but won't be liable is the thread goes bad, and my car would be dead. Hence, I told them to back off, and then called a friend of mine who is a car dealer, he told me "if the previous place really overtightened it, they are indeed responsible, just go to them and tell them to do the oil change, and if they tell you they can't do it, then you tell them it was them who messed up the plug (I still have the receipt, and their windshield sticker), and they need to fix it. OK, I went there, and everything was done without any problems in 10 minutes. Yes, they said the plug was a bit smooth, but they replaced it, and that was it.
Again, I had to learn the hard way that all those repair stores are nothing but ripoffs. The only other time I ever was in one of those stores (All Tune and Lube, even AAA-certified!) was to have a tune-up for $69. Well, while my car was there, they called me "we discovered this, and that, and this needs to be fixed, and the engine needs to be flushed, and there is a leak", the final bill was over $400, and they forgot to put back the hose clamp on the main cooling hose, which fortunately I caught myself. A friend who is a mechanic told me later "I could have done what they did and much more for 50 bucks.
Well, that was it today. From now on, I only let people whom I know personally do work on my cars. And our good old Lube Stop will do our oil changes, it might be a bit more expensive, but leaves me without worries. It is incredible in which shameless ways those garages deceive and rip off people, they lure them with those coupons, and then tell you all kind of scare stories, just to make you pay. I've had it with these guys!
