Getting my money back
I ordered magazines in January of 2010. I have been attempting to get a refund since June 2010. It has been over a year. I call and speak to "Dave Anthony" he has told me, oh it got missed, oh it got lost in the mail, oh we will reprint and send another check. Then in December of 2010 "Dave" told me it would be in the mail by mid Januaty. Here we are in March 2011 and still no refund. I called two days ago and spoke to a young lady, I did not get her name. She explained that "Dave" does handle all refunds but she could tell me they have not mailed anything in several weeks. She explained that the comany is having "some financial difficulty". She verified that my paperwork had been "processed" but did not see that a check has yet been mailed out. I told her I will give them two more weeks and then i'm going to the Attorney General. She understood, and apologized. I wish I had gotten her name, she was actually honest and courteous. Not like "Dave" he just lies and is very very rude.

fraud
This company altered the amount of the check I wrote for magazine subscriptions and changed it to $450! Thankfully, I cancelled the check. I tried to complain via the BBB but after several rounds of back and forth with the company, nothing was done and the case was closed because there was no economic loss. I got lucky in that regard, but the real point here is that many people are losing money to this unethical firm and it must be stopped. Report your loss to the local police department, non-emergency line.

check fraud
A young woman came to my front door on 11/18/09, professing to be working hard to "get back on her feet" by selling magazing subscriptions. She was very believable and my husband and I wanted to help her. We committed to buying 3 subscriptions for the total cost of $154 (stupid mistake #1). We wrote her a check (mistake #2) for this amount, but were so pre-occupied with our two little children hungry for dinner, that I neglected to write out the check amount and only filled in the dollar amount. After this woman left, we thought about it and called our bank to stop payment on the check. Yesterday, I received a letter from Midwest Clearing and the cancelled check, saying that I had not completed the check correctly and needed to send a new one for my subscription to be filled. And by the way, the saleswoman had promised that the company would call us immediately to verify our order BEFORE attemption to cash the check. Enclosed in this letter was the cancelled check, which had clearly (in a different color of ink) been altered to the amount of $454, not $154, as I had written. I filed a complaint with the BBB, but the company's reponse was that they don't understand my complaint and that I did not fill out the check correctly. Is it the salesperson who is lying and forging checks (yes)? Is it the company teaching their salesforce to lie and forge? Most likely. A complete scam and I am embarrassed that I fell for it out of kindness for a stranger.

magazines
I gave a young man with a gold front tooth who said he was from New Orleans 145.00 to help him get a potion. I saw him with a beer in hand at 7AM on the other side of town a few moths later. How can we get a refund? Some way they cashed the check and I can't trace it. this is fraud!!!

Fraud
I fell for a sob story from an alleged reform gang banger who was selling magazines outside of Boston. I then looked up the details of his story and found them to be fabricated. I called Midwest Clearing, and an agent promised to cancel my order. He hung up on me when I asked him his name, however, and I cancelled the check. Today, I got a collection notice for the amount of the order. I have little doubt that the company sold my "account" to a sleezy collection agency. Now, they need to be dealt with. Big mistake! Don't go there!

Fraudulent
I just got a notice yesterday from a collection agency stating that I owed $160. I called the number listed on the form and was told that this was from a check that was written in July of 2006 on an account that was cancelled.
I can't recall what I did last week let alone 3 years ago, but I do know that the account wasn't cancelled until WAMU was bought out by Chase and I'm irritated that I get no notice from them about anything amiss until I get a collection notice in the mail.
I looked online and there are many complaints about this company. Don't know if Midwest Clearing is a scam, the collection agency is a scam or if this is legit.
