i took my vehicle to benba motors for a full service towards end february, car
came back and had a funny noise in the engine, when i i took it to another
mechanic he told me the engine had sludge in and two days later when i tried to
visit my mother the car stopped, i slowly drove back to my house and the car
broke down; monte vista werkswinkel towed the car in and after a few days told
me the car would need a new engine. they found out the prices from barnetts and
it would cost nearly R9 000 for another engine. i phonefd them the morning to
make sure about the price and they told me it would be R7 000, i then phoned
the garage and told them it was fine.
they could go ahead and order the engine. which they did. everytime i had to
draw the cash and take them the money. they did not accept bank transfer. i
also had to organize a lift for this.
upon receipt of the vehicle i payed the last amount which now came to R12 074
and on the invoice it stated the car must be returned within 350km. it did this
and a day before i decided to visit my motherr again i went in to the garage
just for a final check up. the owner Piet Coetzee went with me and said he was
happy. when we opened up the bonnet smoke came up. he looked around and told me
he couldn't see anything but i could drive. well i drove past paarl from
bellville and just through the tunnel then the car started losing power. i
pulled over and it did not want to start up again. now that was it. i phoned my
mother and my uncle came and towed me to bonnivale.
i phoned the garage on tuesday and the owner said we would talk thursday. i
phoned him again this morning and the said it was not his problem it was
barnetts problem. i need to know what can be done? i am a woman alone with only
my mother. where to now?
