Do you have a 2-3 years old name-brand Notebook Computer? Did you purchase it 2nd-hand?

So you are NOT the original owner and now you believe that your notebook is NOT covered

under the original manufacturer warranty...

You are WRONG. Computer shops in downtown Montreal, especially near Bleury are taking

advantage of you. Here is how it works. You bring in your laptop to some technician.

You believe that perhaps because he is from the far east that maybe he is qualified.

He takes your laptop and checks something on the computer screen which is not facing you.

Then a sly grin appears on his face and he agrees to "fix" your IBM or Dell or HP/Compaq

laptop or notebook at about 60% of the going fee. The actual cost to repair you have already

been quoted at $299, but Kong or whatever his name is agrees to make you a "special" for

only $175. Good deal right? WRONG!

You have just been SCAMMED. This guy and many others like him has just checked your serial #

on the underside of your notebook and has just verified that your laptop IS still covered under the

original manufacturer warranty. And he will get it fixed for FREE but because he is so kind he will

only charge you $175 because you believe that you have no right to the original warranty.

But Kong is not the only one. Many repair shops in Montreal are offering repairs of name brand

notebooks that have an NVidia Video Card built-in, including HP and Dell Notebooks, which all

have a "secret recall" associated with them. Ask them how much they charge to "fix" them?

Just like Kong, they charge approx. $175 instead of the normal fee of $299. However HP or Dell

will fix it absolutely for free except that you must dot some "i"s and cross some "t"s.

And why do I care? Because tech's like these give the honest tech's a bad rap. Now everyone believes

that ALL tech's are dishonest and crooked, when it is actually a few bad apples which spoiles it

for everybody.

It also bothers me that these guys "boast" about how the "screw" their clients and "laugh" behind your back

at the ignorance that is out there. Personally it makes me sick to my stomach and I felt that someone has to

expose these guys.
