I bought a Motorola Xoom five days ago and signed up the data plan with Verizon but no the phone plan. I have had difficulty getting the initial password, so that I can register with Verizon to check usage status and pay bills. The problem is that when I register, I need to provide a temporary password. But the temporary password was either sent to the phone# attached to the device or in "snail" mail. I did not sign up a phone service with Verizon, so I could not have a phone to retrieve the text message. The Xoom cannot receive text messages but the mail usually takes several days. They did not have a way to send the password in email or FAX.
This is what I found out today after I went to the store talking to two people and called the customer service talking to three people. I talked to total of 5 people eventually eventually found out why I was unable to register. The people I talked to had no idea what my problem was, telling me to use the password I created, but since I could not even get an initial password to sign in at the first place, I did not even have a chance to create a password. I was then told to check the text message in my device, but there was no such a folder where I could check. The process of explaining where the problem was and how to resolve it took me 5 days. I was told to wait in the "mail" for the initial password. This is a ridiculous situation to even get their new customer to start to register with Verizon. If I had known I would experience this type of difficult process, I would not have even bother to buy Xoom with them.
