tI was warded on yhe 16th mar 2010 for administering the sleeping pill intravaneously therby causing excruciating pain to my right leg. I had hoped by admitting myself i could get painkillers to relieve my pain which has by this time been excruciating.
The doctor on duty(Dr Chia Kok Hoong) to my surprise and horror refused to administer any painkillers,
telling my mother this would teach me a lesson. I was simply put on a drip and to suffer the pain from 2am to 930am.When he came back in the morning i was alredy packing up to leave after suffering the last six hours wondering if i should have come. the nurse then told me a certain Dr Brian Yeo wanted to see me but at that time i told the nurse i will see him another day after waiting half hour.finally as i was leaving, i met him at the lift lobby and all he said was to ask me to check in his clinic which i refused knowing his exhorbitant price which i could not afford anyway. The biggest shock came when ireceived my bill from Mt Elizabeth. The doctor fee for Dr Chia Kok Hoong Was $500. Firstly no medication was given upon discharge and no Painkillers were administered to me when i was in excruciating pain. Are doctors supposed to pass moral judgment on patients and decide who should get painkillers and who is not? Dont they have an ethical duty to treat all patients regardless even if the patient is a murderer? Secondly, knowing Dr Brian and Dr Chia are schoolmates, are they suppose to canvass patients for each other? I have repeatedly told Dr chia that if i wanted to see Brian yEO, I KNOW WHERE HIS OFFICE IS. But Dr chia insisted that Dr brian Yeo out of concern just wanted to have a few words With me. Finally after waiting for half hour as i was leaving with my mum, we met at the lift lobby.His only question to me was whether i wanted to check into his clinic which i refused politely. also i told him i would seek him in future if i needed to. Then came the bombshell bill from Mt Elizabeth. The total bill came up to $1443. Dr chia Kok Hoong's fee is $500 and DR Brian Yeo kah loke'S was $200.
throughout my 6 hours i was practically just put on a glucose drip without painkillers. but the most shocking was the charge for Dr Brian Yeo Kah Loke for the 2 min talk at the lift lobby. With all due respect to the Medical profession, Dr Chia spent not even half hour merely using visual assessment of my leg while not precribing any medication even when i left or a next appoinment to monitor my condition. I am both appalled and angry that a reputable hospital would practice such unprofessional behaviour and yet charge exhorbitant prices for not treating their patients when they are in pain. I sincerely hope the relevant board would look into the case and i would be most willing to assist in anyway i can to prevent future cases from ever happening again. Thank You.
