On Dec. 22 2008 I was driving my vehicle to Shaws in North Conway. The engine just quit, lost all power. I called AAA and they sent a tow truck from Mount Washington Valley Towing. The driver got out of the truck and said that it was too cold and he didn't want to take the time to set up the tow dollies.
I told him I was surprised that they didn't send a flatbed as that is the norm as far as I knew when you tow a 4 X 4 or an AWD vehicle. But he said not it was fine. He did take a momant to call someone who lived nearby who drove one of their flatbeds to see if he would come and do the tow but the other person declined. He hooked the vehicle up from the rear I asked if he was supposed to put the tranmission in neutral but he said it that with 4 wheel drive it didn't matter. I got into my wife's car and waited for him to finish hooking the car up. He proceeded to pull out of the parking lot of Banner's Restaurant and we noticed that the front wheels were turning in opposit directions. We got his attention and told him, he backed the truck up into the parking lot, got out and said "Well that ain't good" He then put the transmission in neutral and used the seatbelt to hold the steering wheel in place. He pulled out and th ewheels were turning correctly.
After having the issue that caused the car to quit on us fixed there was a problem with the transmission. It is the belief of two different repair shops that this was caused by the improper towing. Also, if you read the Ford Owners manual for my vehicle it says that all 4 X 4 and AWD towing should ALWAYS be done on a flatbed.
They have yet to acknowledge that they did anything wrong, and their ins. company refuses to investigate because they said that their client says tha they did nothing wrong.
Stay away from them and if you call AAA tell them to send anyone else but these jackasses.
