I filled out an application for a home equity line of credit from Mountain West Bank. It was simply "applicant information", and so it said on the form. It did not require a signature, was not signed, did not ask for any commitments whatsoever relative to the line of credit.
They checked some things out and then said I had been accepted for the loan, and made available their disclosures relating to their terms. Not finding the terms at all to my liking, or my expectations, I declined their offer of the heloc.
A representative of the bank then called me and tried to make me financially accountable for the cost of investigating my credit worthiness. When I objected strongly to such a suggestion, he became very personal.
I have never heard of such a thing before. I have often applied for jobs and loans, filled out applications for them and had my credit checked, but no one came along and accosted me if I decided not to take the loan or job and then tried to belittle me and fine me for my decision. I will avoid this bank in future and never recommend it to anyone.
