I needed to move last year and had called around to a few places that were recommended by Rent.com. Now when I used movers in the past I discussed the quote on the phone prior to the move and basically paid the quoted price that was given give or take a few dollars. this moving company on the other hand quoted me a price of max 575 dollars

Im in new york and they were located in New Jersey but said they dispatched in my area. So I scheduled my and the movers showed up not very professional looking all about 20 years old . I should have been wary when he didn't go over the quoted price when they arrived. Then when we arrived at the storage place to get the rest of my stuff he hit me with a bill for 3 times the amount I was quoted.

I only had a 1 br apt and it wasn't a long distance move ( no tolls to get to my new place. But they charged me $275 because there was a long walkway from the apartment to the truck, and $100 per flight of stairs. Plus they packed stuff i didnt ask them to pack and charged me for the packing materials as well.

So when I refused to pay the price they refused to give me my furniture until I paid, when I wanted to speak to a manager they said no-one was in the office because it was a saturday. so they unpacked my bed only and too the rest of my stuff with them . i spoke to a manager that monday and she adjusted the price by taking off $500. I asked if I could have that in writing she said it would be on the bill. What BS. when the movers came the price was not what she quoted it was $200 more . They again refused to unpack my stuff until I paid them so I just gave in and paid them. what a nightmare! The didnt get a tip by the way.
