What a waste of time and money to get from them what you pay for
I have a contract with iTalk Cellular which include 100 sms bundle. MTNSP took them over. This month my bundle was not loaded on my account. Phone iTalk and they refered me to MTNSP. Phone MTNSP and they refered me to iTalk. Back to italk!! Phone iTalk and then refered back to MTNSP. They then refered me to any MTN store which I then drove to at Kolonade in Pretoria. Spoke to MK, but his whole attitute shows that there is no interest to help. Said I must phone MTNSP the next day. That I did. They said to me that There is no service I can expect from them. Meanwile my bank account is debited with the full payment, bundle included! I came back home, stop payment on that debit order and phone MTNSP again the next day. Same reply and iTalk can't be reached. As long as we the subscribers pay and do not expext any service is fine with companies like MTN!! What a waste of time and money to get from them what you pay for!!!

Avoid MTN at all costs
I filled in an applicattion form to activate a contract with MTN. This was after I had spent an afternoon collecting all the necessary paperwork (ID Copy, Bank statement, etc.). Upon submission of my application I was told that my phone would be delivered within two weeks. I was informed that I would receive an SMS wwhen my phone arrived.
After three weeks and no SMS I payed the SP a visit only to be told that my phone had not been delivered but would be available shortly. I again reported to the SP two weeks later to be greeted with an 'I Don't Know' for every question asked.
I immediately cancelled my application! I then applied for a contract with VodaCom. I received a phone immediately and my accound was active within two hours.

MTN is truly the worst service provider
I paid my account via the internet after trying hopelessly to call the call centre number 808. On Sunday I tried once again, but they were busy upgrading systems. I fail to understand how difficult it is to contact a TELECOMMUNICATIONS company!!! This is the third time that I have problems with MTN. When I finally got through to an agent. She said I should call back as my account was in legal.. MTN is truely the WORST service provider!!

I don't get answers, and they just happily keep on billing me
The saga continues, ongoing already since 8 months. Only response I got from MTN is that allegedly my account is in arrears, well that is exactly what the whole issue is about!
I don't get answers, and they just happily keep on billing me! I have now been suspended for more than 3.5 weeks, the fourth time in 8 months.
Last week I spent 35 minutes having to endure waiting time of 14 minutes to even get through, a rude operator, and NO response to me asking to be contacted urgently by a manager or supervisor (Ref 520 16 710).
The more I try and log queries and try to get to the bottom of account queries and to a migration, the more they come up with more bills.
I have now logged a formal complaint of no service with ICASA, I am not prepared to continue with this kind of NON-service any further!
MTN is USELESS, yes, they are for sure, unless proven otherwise.

Very bad reception
I live in Basden str (between Rabe and Alethea streets) in Lyttleton, Centurion. I have recently ported 3 lines to MTN but I am now very disappointing that I have. there is mostly little or no reception at my home. I cannot get hold of people and they not me. I have tried to log this on the MTN site on 2 occasions, both times I was just ignored.

Unable to de-activate SMS roaming
I returned from Australia on 12 September at 16h00. When I landed at OR Tambo, I deactivated SMS roaming, but this was not successfully. Until Sunday I tried many times, unsuccessfully, so my phone is practically useless since I cannot take or make phonecalls!!! I phoned NashuaMobile, my SP, who indicated that MTN has many many network and billing system problems! Clearly the stupid MTN shareholders think MTN rocks, because their shareprice just goes up all the time! When behind the scenes they seem to be truly pathetic to provide a first-world service!
MTN when will you fix your problems!!! You are now forcing me to switch to Vodacom!

Cannot upgrade because of MTN system issues
I am one of the unlucky clients that that came over from iTalk to MTN because of the merger. My contract expired on 20 July 2009 and I have not been able to upgrade since then. Firstly I was told by MTN I can only upgrade after 20 August - that date came and went and still I couldn't upgrade. The new date I was given was after 11 September (see the irony in that!). So I went on 13th Sep to an MTN store, was told I can upgrade and they proceeded to process the upgrade.
Then when they tried to put the upgrade through, the system says they can only upgrade in May 2011 - 4 year contract! So they say I must wait until they sort they problem out sometime! The level of service and communication from MTN around this is appalling. I've been an MTN client (I have 2 contracts) for 12 years, but this does not seem to be an issue for MTN. I am writing this complaint out of utter frustration, and I suspect the only response I will get is an 'we will look into it' reply, the problem will get resolved in a few weeks and I must be happy because my problem is now resolved albeit 2 months down the line with no apology or compensation.

I am now thoroughly convinced that MTN don't care about their customers and have absolutely no idea of customer service
I am now thoroughly convinced that MTN don't care about their customers and have absolutely no idea of customer service. I have received a R 9000.00 bill from MTN and have tried for more than a month to get an itimised billing out of MTN. They keep telling me that they're emailing or faxing it to me but it never arrives. My ISP has checked the server logs but nothing so it's not being pulled by a spam fiilter. After numerous attempts to get this itimised bill I have no option now but to place a halt on them debiting my account and wait for them to take me to court. I have enough evidence against them to convince any judge that they are at fault. I intend counter suing for as much as I can since I have been greatly inconvenienced.

I have never seen such poor service ever since I was in the cellphone industry
I also am experiencing a horroble problem with MTN service. In fact I have never seen such poor service ever since I was in the cellphone industry. In July 2009 I subscribed for a MTN modem data 500MB R239 per month and received it It apparently was activated 22 july 2009. I started using it and it is a top up contract. the first of august 2009 i was suspended from the mtn network and apparently i have exceeded credit limit of R665 or sumthing my balance is now atR824.07 the break down being R422.75 pro rata for july 2009 and 218.42 subscribtion for august I mean how can my pro rata exceed my monthly subscription while i received it just 2 days from my billing date and now dissappointingly MTN are battling to answer me since i enquired from beginning august and i am told to pay before the suspension is lifted from me. why are MTN so poor such that they cannot appreciate their mistakes and sort them in time why must i suffer because of someone else's incompetency I have been using vodacom for the rest of my cellphone life and I never went to bed with an un resolved issue. I even have a vodacom contract that gave me not even a slight problem when i took it.

SIM not re-connected after two weeks
I was in arrears on my MTN SP Data Contract so my service was suspended. I paid up in full at the end of August, requested reconnection, and was promised, on 31082009, that my service would be re-instated within 3 to 5 working days. It is now 12 days later, and despite numerous (very expensive) calls to the 083-1-808 number using another network, and countless promises that my SIM would be reconnected 'soon', I still have no service (error message 'SIM registration failed'). My last call to the 'Service' (what a laugh!) Centre was yesterday morning, where a latently hostile agent told me that the request was sent through but he cannot tell me when the SIM would be connected, due to unspecified 'technical problems'...
I cannot unilaterally cancel this contract or port to another network, because a total of R7500+ would be due for early cancellation charges and 3G modem subsidy, so they truly KNOW that they can afford to mess me around as my options are limited!
MTN service really stinks, and just gets worse with each passing minute...I will NEVER recommend this company to anybody...
