Stay far away from them
I was due to upgrade my contract and was contacted by MTN to do so - I went to the MTN store in Ladysmith and chose two new phones - when the phones arrived I was given the relevant documentation to sign - I decided to take the time and to read this documentation all was in order except for one document which was a photostat copy that had no letterhead on it, this document was very vague and in essence would give me absolutely no recourse should anything go wrong - I told them that I am not prepared to sign that particular document - needless to say they refused to upgrade my contract - I tried contacting MTN client services and found this to be practically impossible - eventually when I did get through on Monday (3108) they assured me that this document was not part of thier standard contracts and to be suspect and promised to get back to me - it is now Saturday (0509) morning and as I fully expected no-one has ever got back to me.

They cant do business like this
I have moved over from prepaid to contract late last year and have chosen to select MTNSP, to my utter dismay. Since then I was at a time billed for R900 sms, complaint has been logged but no response. Itemized billing requested, no response. MTNSP calls you speaking some African language (I assume) though clearly my language is set as English, totally unproffesional and unacceptable. Their total lack of understanding plain English for that matter. Late billing. Poor network quality even in urban areas... and the list goes on. My account is barred for international calls yet I receive a statement being billed for international calls. No, no, no...They cant do business like this!

Payment arranged and still disconnected
Due to a bit of a cashflow problem I phoned and made a payment arrangement to avoid being disconnected. I reveive a letter with the payment arrangement so I think everything is under control. My phone gets suspended, I phone 808 and lo and behold no payment arrangement on the system. I RECEIVED A LETTER FROM MTN WITH THE DETAILS AND THE AGREEMENT. What is happening at MTN????

Avoid MTN as a service provider at all costs
I have only been with them a month and a half and have already had many issues. First they erroneously charge R1, 999 to my bank account for a fictitious device they said I purchased, then their billing is confused and charging me double amounts in the same month. To top it off they have just cut my phone and blackberry service!!!

What an absolute nightmare
What a absolute nightmare, , I will never never ever use MTN again, After 7 days of time wasting and excuses I will approach the press and had enough of this . A Duel Sim activation is just turned into a nightmare of note and I will not take this as a CLIENT ... I will use all my power to inform any and every press group of this utter incompetence !!!

Phone keeps on coming back faulty after repairs
My Nokia E66 was send in for repairs to the sliding function. The phone came back with the cover broken. I send it back to be fixed. When the phone came back, the bottom keypad lights were no longer working. I said to them that I can’t send it back yet again as it is a business phone that I use for business. If something go wrong again I will send it back. All went well until one day while working on it I noticed a crack inside the phone screen. After much fight’s of who is at fault, I paid for replacing the screen. But yet again when the phone came back it was faulty. And again I send it back to replace the outside cover that was damaged. The phone came back and you won’t believe it... The phone came back yet again with the camera now being faulty. MTN informed me that it will take max 2 days to fix and return my phone back to me. It’s now 8 working days and still counting. In the last 3 months I had the phone for 5 days. They were fast to demand me to pay for repairs but what about me paying for 3 months subscription without the phone???

3G Bandwidth monitor is not working
I have been asking MTN for for 4 weeks now and this problem has still not been sorted out..

The MTN 3G bandwidth monitor has not been working for more than 4 weeks now so how the hell am I supposed to know how much bandwidth I have left. Of course MTN doesn; care because they are just going to charge me R1.20 a meg if my bandwidth runs out.

It's disgusting!!!

When is the bandwidth monitor going to be fixed????

Also how can a billion dollar company not have an online bandwidth monitor??? Why do i have to take out my sim card from the 3g card put it in a phone and dial for my bandwidth. Pathetic!!! I mean to not be able to log onto a website to do this is complete rubbish! Even worse they don't have an sms service either.

I may have to switch to Vodacom as at least they have online bandwidth checking..

MTN really needs to do something about its operations and service level agreements, it is so appalling...

It is like very month I have to write about something and I resort to writing a report because no one at MTN ever bothers to do their jobs and serve customers. IF it is not network issues, the debit order is going off on the wrong date or it is an incorrect amount. Just yetserday MTN debited my account with R841.00 instead of R376.00. The next thing they tell me they'll onyl be able to refund me next week, what the hell is this?

The levels of incompetence at MTN are just not funny. lat week I lost 100MB on my dta bundles and on enquiring I was told this was a system error. Unfortunately this was not the first time I had lost my data bundles or airtime to MTN.

I have not had any joy at all with this network provider; ICASA on the other hand is just a toothless dog that keeps barking but never bites anyone. The competition is just talk and no action.. at th end of the day the consumer has no protection against incompetent and unethical providers such as MTN as no one ver calls them to account for their screew ups.

Received only MTN calls, other phone disconnected
I received two phones, the one number was a port from Vodacom to Mtn and the other one was an excisting MTN number. I can only receive MTN calls on the one thats ported, all the other calls are still send to the old 'phone or number' Called numerous times again without any luck! The other phone we wanted to keep the number for life, called fot activation to keep old MTN number, now its blocked and we can't use the phone !!! Called numerous times again, MTN CALL CENTRE said it's my problem and I must solve the first problem with Vodacom. If I know about all this problems I would definetaly not have used MTN. Phone was activated on August 29. I used my Vodacom phone at that time, and airtime was deducted from the new MTN PHONE while I still have some time on my Vodacom phone. It seems that they activate my phone at MTN while it's not cancelled at Vodacom yet!

Poor service
Poor service that I received from MTN when I was upgrading my contract. Instead of them upgrading my existing number, they have given me a new one even though I clearly stated that I emphasised that I wanted my existing number.
