Troblem August 28, 2010
No service at all from MTN
On Friday I loade R 10 to load a data bundle, it didn't come through and I was spun a story about a technical delay of 9 hours the R 10 has still not reflected and no call from MTn. On Wednesday I loaded R 180 for a databundle and it also didn't come through. I spoke to two different people and faxed two different people. I am still awaiting a call. I sent my bank statement through as I loaded the airtime from my FNB account. I am still out of pocket and not so much as a phone call. I think it is shocking and I cannot believe that no one has bothered to sort it out.

I don't know which word to use to describe their incompetence
I have a cellphone acc with MTN & my acc was handed over to their Legal department(DCCM) after a made a payment. when i called to find out if the payment was recieved i was told my acc is been handed over & if i want it reinstated, i must pay a certain amount of money, i paid that money the following day which was on the 250708 & when i called their Legal dertment on monday that payment was recieved & they promised to reinstae my acc by the 30 & their promise was kept. the past saturday 290809 i went to take a loan & my loan was declined because my credit report shows the arrears on the acc... & this is affecting my credit profile, i've sent a dozen of emails regarding this, no one ever got back to me, i called in a few times, they keep telling me to fax a deposit slip, i faxed 3 times to different people & no one has been able to assist me. the word to describe MTN's service is not yet discovered, i don't know which word to use to describe their incompetence.

Non-existent customer service
I sent an e-mail to [Hidden Web Address] AFTER I tried to phone 808 many times.The mail came back, I had to redirect to [Hidden Web Address] returned with:“Mail delivery failed”I phoned 808 again, held on for 20 minutes before I got through to a human. She refused to help me as, according to their system, the account is still in my ex-husband’s name, despite MTN in Brooklyn Mall informing me on 3 Aug that the account was moved.I printed my mails to fax it to MTN.No luck.I went to Brooklyn.They didn’t know whether the account was moved and I had to go to MTN Cherrylane.Cherrylane refused to help me because I could not prove that I had applied to have the account moved.I had to go back to Brooklyn to get a copy of the forms to prove that I had applied for the transfer.They didn’t have the forms as they sent them to the head office.They promised to phone me the next day (27 Aug) by 10 am to confirm the transfer(I am still waiting 31 Aug) I went back to Cherrylane.I told the person to make a copy of the emails and send that to head office as nothing I do from my side gets me anywhere.He said that those were not the papers he asked for, he wanted the account transfer forms!

MTN, shame on you, you are a complete disappointment and a disgrace
I applied for International roaming, which had been disconnected, as I was travelling to Swaziland on business. My client who was travelling with me applied at the same time, with Vodacom. The next day my client had his roaming connected, and I am still waiting, a week later!!!. This amount to nothing but poor service, especially as I had my wife calling MTN, and was assured that I was going to get connected. As for the call centres. The number 808 is impossible, and disgraceful, as one can never get ser4vice, The number 1555 is just as bad, as they transfer you back to the 808 number. MTN, shame on you, you are a complete disappointment and a disgrace.

I cannot reach a relevant person in the credit department to assist me with my Account query, and I cannot be assisted via your 808 call centre - all I want to to is confirm whether my R2700 payment for Aug reflects, and make a PTP for September, in order to re-activate my number please!

Since having joined the MTN network I have had nothing but problems and disgusting service
I do not know where to even start with this complaint. Since having joined the MTN network I have had nothing but problems and disgusting service from undoubtebly the worst network provider in the Country. The two MTN stores in Clearwater mall have some of the worst levels of service I am yet to see. Slack body language, terrible attitudes and no sense of caring for the customers feeling or problem. The call centre is another story all on its own. I think I hold the record for holding on for assistance. I spent 1h10mins on the 808 toll free number until someone answered. By this time I had already driven to the MTN head office for help.

My BlackBerry cell phone which I received in January stopped working three weeks ago. It simply would not turn on. The red charge appeared, but then would not swtich on. I sent my phone into the hand set repair centre, only to have phone sent back with a message saying that because their is a hair line crack on the screen, my warranty is voided and they refuse to repair my phone. That hair line crack happened more than 6 months ago! It is not the reason for the mechanical failure but yet MTN demands I purchase a new phone cash! 24 month Warranty?

Ek het 'n kontrak by MTN uitgeneem vir 'n Laptop waarby die advertensie wat geplaas was aandui dat die Laptop uitkom met die volgende ekstra's +MICROSOFT OFFICE + ANTI VIRUS. Na 'n maand veskyn daar popups op my skerm wat aandui dat die Laptop slegs uitgereik is met "Trial Versions". MTN mislei die verbruiker en plaas mens onder die indruk dat die kontrak / laptop wel oor die funksies beskik!! Ek is nog in besit van die advertensies uitgereik deur MTN. Dis is niks anders as SKELM nie!!

Do not start a contract with MTN
Anyone who is considering any of these well advertised contracts by MTN - please stay away from MTN. Their billing is really messed up.

If you get free minutes with your contract, and call the 258 (or 16202 for MTN SP) number, you will always hear that you have a lot of free minutes, sms's, data, etc, left. When you use it, you end up with a major bill.

Because, they only update their free minutes number once a week, if we are lucky. They are supposed to do it once a day, but they don't. One really never knows where you stand with them. I am too scared to use my phone in case I end up with another major bill.

This is a fight I have been fighting for a long time. I ended up with a bill of R528 last month on a new contract - a contract that should have cost me R80 per month, plus a data bundle of R189 (no connection fee, sim card fee, or itemised billing fee). I called, wrote, called again, to complain, but no one is interested in sorting this out for me.

Not one of the Mtn branches in my area answered their phones
In my attempts to find out when I can port my number after the termination of my contract, Not one of the Mtn branches in my area answered their phones. I then decided to phone 'headoffice' in Johannesburg. I was put on hold 4 times without anything happening. Twice after that I was cut off, midd sentence, by the person on the other side. Literally while i was still talking, either put on hold or just plain cutt-off. No one could guide me to someone who could help me concerning my complaint of bad service. I eventually spoke to a supervisor who on 2 occasions promised me that she will come back to me before the end of that day. this happened the next day aswell. It is now a week later and i still haven't heard anything from them. All of this happened between the 20th of August and the 27th of August.

Non responsive personnel
I have been billed R2994.00 allegedly for Internet Data Service, Have called the call centre(808) numerous time to obtain the itemised billing for this amount. I kept on be told that the credit controller is investigating and will get back to me. Its three weeks now and has not received a call from this person. Even launched a report previously on this website and got a one line to say somebody will get to me, I am still waiting...What can a person do now to get service from this company!
