No assistance since march by MTN
No assistance since march by MTN!!! due to this i have cancelled my contract and have over paid them but they fail to re-activate my second contract number available... and i will cancel that contract as i am binded currently till December 2009. I called MTN so called customer service at 08:15pm few minutes ago and required assistance but the consultant BUYISI W E just talks and doesnt want to give me a chance to speak then i request a supervisor and she states no one is close by???Where is the decency in this??? I conclude by stating what is the next solution as i have a pre-paid number and do not have airtime to call the contract department, please transfer me. She reply's it CANNOT BE DONE???There is a problem and then i enquire on a reference number for the call but unfortunately again there is none??? I refuse to drop the line then a SIBISO NGUBO the supervisor arrives and he states he cannot transfer me also an email sent to them will not be attended to???

network coverage
we don't have your network coverage at Iwo railway station and you have been told you will be allowed to use any land you want. Pls do something fast.

1 out of 3 outgoing calls fails
In the beginning of 2008 I signed a contract for a cellphone and for a 3G card with MTN. I should have read the signs then. It took three different attempts from three different outlets before they succeeded in porting my cell number from my previous supplier. Apart from lackingbad advice on data package, 2008 went fairly well.
2009 all the problems started.

Billing was sporadic.

Customer Service was a joke.

Coverage has degraded to a degree where about half the calls I receive goes straight to my
voice mail.

1 out of 3 outgoing calls fails.

A repeair of my datacard took a month in wich time I was left with no replacement.

Last month I had enough and asked for a settlement figure so I could be released from my contract before it expired. I was fully prepared to pay the balance of the value of the handsets that came with my contract.
After 2 months I received by mail an unspecified amount for settlement. This amount was quite high so I asked for a specification. A 'specification' arrived with two figures for each handset. The figures made little sense and there was an outrageous 'clawback' fee included.

Harassed by Lawyers
I am an extremely dissatisfied ex-MTN customer

At the beginning of 2006 my godmother (Charnelle Hartley) took out a 24 month contract on a D600 for me (cell number 083 377 8234), stating myself as the person responsible for paying the account. For 24 months I paid the account. At the end of the 24 month period I assumed I would receive notification that asked me if I wanted to renew my contract etc (I did not wish to do so). No such communication came.

I then assumed that my contract had ended – but alas – I was still being billed! For a couple of months post-24 month period. Why call it a 24 month contract if you’re just going to continue billing??? Why not just make it an unlimited contract – that way people know what they’re getting themselves into!

I refused to pay – on principle – and after a number of calls from the lawyers I decided to pay the bill. I then spoke with a “Calvin” who proceeded to give me banking details. I then went and made the payment. After a number of faxes and more lawyers calls – I went to FNB (the bank where the account was held) and tried to understand what was going on. This was in December 2008 at the FNB in Plumstead, Cape Town.

After spending close to 3 hours at the bank – the consultant firstly told me that the banking details I was given was a personal bank account, not even the lawyers or MTN. Now make no mistake that this is not my fault! She assured me that she had sorted it out i.e. reversed the payment and then deposited it into the right account.

A few weeks ago the calls from the lawyers started again, stating that I now owed MTN a little over R2000! Now please take note that I was assured I had a ZERO balance! And between February and December 2008, and January 2009 – October 2009 my phone had been PREPAID, so how exactly was I being billed?? On what premise??

I spoke with the lawyers this morning (18 June 2010) at about 09h00 who assured me that they will be sending the information (i.e. how they came to this ridiculous amount) asap. It’s two months later and I’m still waiting. I will be pulling up all the necessary records from the bank, while I await further lawyers calls who still fail to produce evidence of the billing

THERE IS A SYSTEM THAT STOLE MY AIR TIME, IJUST GOT AN SMS FROM THEM AND ABOUT R 173.00 WAS BILLED, I DONT KNOW HOW TO GET BACK MY MONEY, I ALSO CANNOT FIND THE COMPANY WHO DID IT, I BLAME MTN FOR GIVING THIS COMPANY MY DEATAILS, THEY MUST SORT THIS THING OUT BECAUSE I CANNOT BUY AIR TIME, I AM AFRAID IT WILL BE GONE

R5000 Account And No Response From MTN
Evening

I require a consumer watchdogs assistance on the following problem :

On the 27February 2010, I received a bank notification of R4852.71 being debited from my account by MTN. I went to an MTN store and enquired about this bill. I was told that it was internet usage of R2829.00 at 21h56 on 17012010 and R1156.58 at 21h59 0n 17012010. I asked them to please find out what internet usage it was, as I do not use the sim card in question. I was told that they would get back to me but they have not. A separate enquiry got me the details of the website in question where I supposedly downloaded videos but I cannot access the website via mobile or computer, so I question its validity.


I am appalled that after taking so much of my money, i cannot get an answers as to why I was billed so much and furhermore why I was billed over a month later. The reference number for the enquiry is 59849335. I have reported the matter to Hello Peter twice as well as Carte Blanche< Star Newspaper and other consumer watchdogs but to no avail.

Debiting my account
In september last year, my contract phone and sim were stolen. I called MTN the following morning to report the stolen phone and sim - i was sent placklisting forms, which i completed and sent back to them and i was asked if i wanted a call block put on the line (obviously)

NOTHING was done - MTN have continued to debit my account for the thousands of rands that the cellphone theif has racked up on my contract, i tried to contact MTN to stop the debit order, but to no avail.

Eventually in February i had to close the bank account that the debit order comes off of and i am still being billed from MTN despite numerous requests for them to stop.
I would like a full refund of the approx R8000 that has been debited from my account since september last year.

Please can someone contact me URGENTLY, before i take this matter further.

Phone not working since upgrade
I upgraded my cellphone contract (078 100 2987) on 20/21 April 2010. Since that upgrade I could not make any outgoing phonecalls. I have complaint to MTN on numerous occasions and do have the relevant reference numbers but up till today I cannot make phone calls from the specific cell number. I have gone so far as to camplain at:
1. getclosure (cosumer protection)
2. ICASA ( the communications body that governs communication in South Africa), but to no avail.
I make calls to MTN's customer care weekly, but they are a bunch of incompetent asses that cannot do anything or use their brains, cause I cannot make any phone calls yet. The simcard do allow incom ing calls, sms' and going onto the internet.
MTN never had the decency to answer any of my complaints, not once and I have complained about more than 10 times. I have given up hope already. All I can say is that you do have my permission to expose MTN as a useless company and that the customer is always last by them. This is the final straw for me with this uselss company ( I have 5 contracts with them and cant wait for the day for it to expire. What a waste of money. Never again will I advice people to join this *%@$# company. ICASA on the other hand is just as useless as MTN as they cannot do their job. Up until today I have received nothing from them, not even an acknowledgement.

NB: I have proof sent to the various companies/NGO's/regulators etc. ICASA's complaints are sent via email and you do not receive any confirmation although they say so on their website

Account query
I have an account query outstanding from October 2009. Every time I call to query it, I get told 'it has been escalated' and 'call back after 21 days. Well, how many times will it get 'escalated'. 21 DAYS IS 21 DAYS!!! If it happened in my company, i would have been FIRED in December 2009. I have emailed MTN twice via their MTNSP website to cancel my contract and still I have had no correspondence from them. I WANT ACTION OR ICASA WILL REACT ON MY BEHALF!! Refer to my hellopeter.com posting on 4th February 2010 and another one today. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH MTN!!! WAKE UP PLEASE, SLEEP IN YOUR BED AT NIGHT NOT AT WORK!!! I am passed the pissed off stage now!

do not receive the detailed billing every month and billing for calls after the phone have been cut.

Account no: Z0002081, constant problem with this account at MTN and don't get any response or feedback as to the problem on this account every month they cut the phone between the 20th - 28th each month then this account is activated only on the 8th of the new month so during that time frame the company is being billed for calls that cant be made during such time, and note that this account is going of by debit order.
